  1. There's also an excellent passive D.I. (600 Ohms balanced output) based on a Sowter 4383 Mumetal transformer in this bass, but it looks like some idiot lost the special cable XLR cable (5 to 3 pins) needed to use it. This cable is meant to bypass the always active preamp, which is an early days HAZ Labs clone preamp similar to the one used in the early Fodera's. Yep, it used to be mine and is a terrific bass.
  2. Concerning the buzz, as it happens all along the neck and as the TI have a lighter gauge, check on the bridge side, it may be a slightly loose screw or even the saddle spring... I have discarded the bad string fitting as it doesn't make it on the 3 other strings or with other brands
  3. This is the new official Fender A string retainer : https://www.fender.com/en-GB/parts/electric-bass-parts/string-guides-nuts/stealth-bass-string-retainer/0078972049.html
  4. The battery is under the lid at the rear, like almost all early battery powered instruments. 😉
  5. Or a preamp changed, or a strange knob fitted as it doesn't fit the two others...
  6. This is a Status Energy, Hyperactive pickups and active preamp with blend, volume and active tone. Woven graphite neck and wood body. Not the must sought after model at all...
  7. Yes, and a lot of them. They are not all totally deaf... That said, it's and, not annd.
  8. We all have our weaknesses. 😉
  9. He also has loads of patents for his designs including the free floating top (so you get the acoustic response and feel). The ergonomic is just awesome and the sounds you can get are amazing, but the instrument is unforgiving. These are indeed pieces of art and high engineering as Christophe LEDUC is a graduated architect but preferred to build instruments... Check this too : http://leduc.fr/index.php/series-l/contrebasse-de-la-serie-l It took us seven years to finish it... 😉
  10. Woops, played a new composition with a picktrum today during our bass duet rehearsal. Will I be banned forever ?
  11. Here's the link to his U-Basse website part (in French) : http://leduc.fr/index.php/basses/u-basses-a-table-flottante
  12. For @ambient, Leduc U-Basse 6 Fretless : Ask @greenolive, he now onws my second U-Basse 6 fretted...
  13. It's fine totally unplugged, with a weaker sound than, say, a double bass, of course, but with its true acoustic sound totally audible. I'm waiting for your explanations, but if I remember correctly, you are a processed sound bass player (I mean effects in the signal path and distortion is an effect) and not a dry sound bass player (flat amp without any effect), so there is already something biased. No ?
  14. And as I said an infinite number of times, also confirmed by Roger SADOWSKY (and all true luthiers worldwide) in his article that almost nobody seems to have read, an electric instrument is, before all, ... an acoustic instrument.
  15. For those able to read in French, here is Félix SAVART mémoire about strings vibrations and the trapezoidal violin, published in 1894. Don't worry, there are images too : https://gallica.bnf.fr/ark:/12148/bpt6k9666718w/f351.item The whole Roret Encyclopedia about Luthier is really worth a reading, but I'm afraid that there's no English translation...
  16. Have a talk with Mike TOBIAS then and he'll explain you his wood choices. He's a very friendly guy (at least with me) and always glad to answer your questions (again with me).
  17. So, is this build now officially the Hampeg Flip Flop ?
  18. Did it explode by now ? I have another name for it : The Flip Flop... I know : Twerp !
  19. Here is the article that summarises all I've ever said about electric instruments for decades. An article by the great Roger Sadowsky : Waiting for the heretics comments...
  20. Yes, I do love these basses !
  21. And here is the link to the official manual : https://peavey.com/manuals/80302039.pdf
