Would anyone be interested in doing a set-up master class like last time, only later in the day 'coz the last one was too early for me And re. the slap ban. Having had a most beneficial and instructive lesson in slap from Urb at the last bash, I may form a resistance movement. FREE THE SLAP -
Nor did I But the man is to be greatly admired.
Nice bloke too apparently. Mike formerly of the Bass Merchant is his go-to guy.

My 2x10 Tech combo used to be his. It's what he used at the Albert Hall.

I have nothing to add to this discussion and am not afraid to say so.

no-one's mentioned Craig David yet proper bo' ah tell thee!

get a decent wireless system and play as many open strings as possible. Work out the rest yourself

Another Frankie Poullain (The Darkness) incident
MacDaddy replied to Hamsalad's topic in General Discussion
Just got off the phone with my mother. She does standup comedy in London and I forgot she was performing tonight. This is how the conversation went. Me: Hi mum, just letting you know Wallander is on at 11:30. Mum: Sorry love, I'm performing in London. There are some musicians here actually, and one of them is a bass player. Me: Oh really? Mum: Yes, he plays in a band, I'm not sure if you've heard of them, the umm.. The Darkness. (pause) Have you heard of them? Me: Erm yes, they're quite big actually. Mum: Really? "My son says you're quite big" "Is that so?" (Laughter) Me (who gets star struck by my postman): Well.. give him my regards, have a nice evening. Mum: Will do, goodbye! Euphemisms apart and role reversal apart, it was quite a strange incident. Atleast I can now say I've technically met the bassist from The Darkness; my life is complete.
when he quit/was fired I applied for his job. Didn't get the gig - obviously - but got a really nice personal reply from The Darkness management. Much kudos for them for that. -
The Bitch on Bass - Rockbitch. Fantastic player, and did an awesome slap solo on her fretless.

years ago there was a Yellow Pages advert, in which a French Polisher* was called to deal with a nasty scratch on a table. If you have a spare bit of cash it might be worth giving one a call? *this is not a euphemism!

Action Stations! Do you like a high action?
MacDaddy replied to gjones's topic in General Discussion
as low as possible for me. With a decent bass and set up you can still have a low action and play hard and not suffer ill effects. -
POLL! Who uses a hard case for gigs, and who uses a gig bag?
MacDaddy replied to Evil Undead's topic in General Discussion
depends on the gig/rehearsal and how I'm getting there. -
Trouble understanding modes? Here's an excellent demonstration ..
MacDaddy replied to xilddx's topic in Theory and Technique
bit of a faux pas in part 2, 6:44, D minor is the relative minor of F major - not E flat minor. -
There is a demand for signature guitars, which Fender started in the 80's,
And Gibson started in the 50's with the Les Paul.

I'm wondering what the difference in price would be, between this bass, and one made from the same parts but without the AC link?
-
In a previous disscusion about this (it used to puzzle me too) I heard the wise words "ask a violinist if the keys of C# and Db are the same", then batten down your hatches.
in a similar vein, don't tell the string section the (true) reason strings can sound so lush is because they are all out of tune with each other
-
Could be wrong, but I seem to remember him playing a J rather than a P?
-
there's something about #1. Has my vote.
-
From videos I've seen of my performances with booze and without booze, there has been no difference.
would my zebra print Blitz count?
there's just as much white as a white bass with a different colour pick guard.

started on classical guitar then moved on to bass because I wanted to. I think it's easier to be a bad bassist than it is to be a bad guitarist, but it's much harder to become a good bassist than a good guitarist.
