  1. According to the Reverb list of most popular basses sold in 2022........ https://www.notreble.com/buzz/2022/11/10/reverb-releases-list-of-best-selling-basses-of-2022/ Squier Classic Vibe Bass VI Fender Player Precision Bass Fender Offset Series Mustang Bass PJ / Gretsch Junior Jet II Squier Affinity Precision Bass PJ Rickenbacker 4003 Sterling StingRay Ray4 Fender American Professional II Precision Squier Affinity Bronco Bass Fender Player Jazz Bass / JB-62 Jazz Bass Ibanez GSRM20 Gio Mikro Squier Affinity Jazz Bass Ibanez SR300E Soundgear Standard Hofner Ignition Pro Violin Bass Fender Precision Bass (1970-83) Fender Standard Jazz Bass / American Professional II Jazz Bass / Squier Classic Vibe ’70s Jazz Bass Squier Classic Vibe ’70s Precision Squier Classic Vibe ’60s Jazz Bass Squier Classic Vibe ’60s Precision Bass Fender Player Mustang Bass PJ Squier Classic Vibe ’50s Precision Bass .........I don't think it's moved on as much as you think! There's a lot of classic designed passive basses there. Personally I'm not a big fan of active basses. I've never owned one and whenever I've toyed with buying one I just haven't gelled with the tone or looks. Still doesn't stop me wanting a Stingray though, but they're not exactly new or modern. But each to their own etc...
  2. For me, the pick guard looks better than the bigger guard on the DC Jnr. Plus I dig the chrome pup cover and bridge. All in all, I like the look of it and thought it sounded good in the video with quite a wide range of tones. If I was after a shorty to play in a rock band then this'd be worth checking out.
  3. There's an Am Pro 2 Jazz in roasted pine too, looks pretty sweet.
  4. Very DC Jnr a-like. I can live with the headstock and bridge, it's the four dots they put on the body that I'm not a fan of. Still wouldn't put me off having one though, especially that green and maple, swoon!..........as long as it doesn't have a matching headstock.
  5. If I'm playing with my heavier band I normally soundcheck with either gun by Soundgarden, bread cheese bow and arrow by future if the left or monkey trick by Jesus lizard.
  6. Wow, never knew that and Spaced is one of my favourite British comedies!
  7. He seems really sound and pretty funny in any interview I've seen him in too. Would be a good watch!
  8. Loads of great suggestions so far that'd make great interviews. How about..... Tony Franklin Mike Watt Peter Hook Justin Chancellor Robert Trujillo Billy Sheehan Lee Sklar Georgia South Cass Lewis
  9. I had a VM Jag PJ - black with a rosewood board and blocks with a J neck. It was a really nice bass. I picked it up thinking I'd mod it, but I didn't need to change a thing on it, the Duncan designed pups were great. They can be picked up pretty cheap nowadays too.
  10. It's not every day you see these and then 2 come along at once..... https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/155391213178 https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/144925849912 I really like these, my dad had a 70s Ibanez copy of the guitar version and I've got a bit of a soft spot for one. Pretty cool!
  11. Looks cool with that scratch plate and knobs on it too
  12. I go through the effects return and bypass my amps pre. Both my bands have pretty different sounds, so I use a rusty box for the noisy originals band and a tech 21 vt for the blues covers band.
  13. No matter the colour it's a really great looking bass! I loved TI flats on my SG, but had to take them off when we got keys for the band. I'm tempted to whack them back on again now though
  14. Really cool new bass!! There's quite a variation in the colour across the pics and it looks a lot more orangey in your shots. In my head the shot of the rear control cavity is closer to what it looks like in real life?
  15. Starting off with a simplified version of the song is definitely good advice as you don't know if a song will work until you give it a go. I then start to pad it out if it's a song that sticks around and I haven't 'wasted' time learning the intricacies of a song I'll never play. Fully agree with @Lozz196's advice about highlighting it with the rest of the band too. It takes the mick if this is a persistent thing and you spend loads of time on something only for people to write it off without any prior discussion.
  16. We put it down to a vote for adding new tunes into the set. There's 5 of us in the band, we each put 5 suggestions into the hat and everyone gets 5 votes on what to add in (you can't vote for your own songs). The tunes with the most votes get worked on. There's normally a bit of a preamble before hand on the sort of song we want in the set....eg - slow/fast one, something to shake your money maker to etc, so that generally informs what sort of song gets added to the list
  17. There's an even cheaper Jaco clone for 86 quid on bax as well. They used to make an unlined stingray for just over 100 and that was really tempting
  18. You'll be safe enough going through the effects return and bypassing the pre in your terror. I have a quilter 800 and do the very same with 2 different pre amp pedals for different bands.
  19. Just nipped down a YouTube rabbit hole looking for the hoax cover of 'I've got a mind to give up living' - which is ace itself and has a bit of a Nawlins funeral procession swing to it, when I came across this........ Never knew they covered it, so it's new to me. Just solidifies for me why Peter Green is the best British guitarist imo. No one comes close to the level of feel and emotion he puts into his playing. Wonderful stuff.
  20. He's touring this year....... https://www.ticketmaster.co.uk/the-kenny-wayne-shepherd-band-tickets/artist/1920920 Love the Hoax too. I'm not 100% sold on Beaux Gris Gris and the Apocolypse, but some of their tunes are decent.
  21. I did one in one out for a while just as a self imposed rule........I ended up regretting a sale though so now it's one in then, maybe 6 months later once I'm fully on board with the new bass, it's potentially one out if I need it. I've also decided to put my basses on wall hangers as that sets a limit on how many I can have 😁
  22. It's a shame the Squier has already been sold. I would have very generously offered the option of you keeping it and selling the SB1 to me 😃 The LB100 looks ace and I'm sure it plays like a dream too!
  23. Those sites were my first port of call too, I've tried to find pics of the original LP to see if there's any mention of personnel but it doesn't look like anyone is listed there either. I've just seen this site.... https://rateyourmusic.com/release/album/steve-cropper-pops-staples-albert-king/jammed-together/ One person there mentions Jackson on drums but drops Isaac Hayes as keys. Can't say I know either of them well enough to say it sounds like one over the other tbf. No mentions of a bass player, but it could well be Dunn - good shout!
  24. I've only just come across this and thought I'd break the mould a bit by posting a full album........ Albert King, Steve Cropper and Pop Staples jamming out some ace tunes. What's not to love about this? Really excellent work on bass and drums too. I can't find any info on the other musicians on the LP, so if anyone knows then I'd love to hear who's doing what!
  25. Or I could change my playing technique to incorporate one of these.....
