1.
Find the one you fall in love with.
^^^^^^^^^^^This
2. I've never owned a 'burst. I feel like I've missed some kind of rite of passage. I did have a car with a vinyl roof that always broke down though.
3.
Very much this. If I was invited to audition with restrictions etc.., I'm not sure I'd act much differently. Did you ask him where his guitar was. It may have been in the Car.
The restrictions were because we had a gig coming up and we didn't feel we could sacrifice the whole rehearsal - he knew that. His guitar wasn't in the car.
4. I was listening to Me First and the Gimme Gimme's the other day and realised - if you dont like a song play it in a different way. For those who were posting about Jewish weddings - have a listen to MF&GG "Ruin Little Jonny's Bah Mitzvah". I even like some of the stuff on "Like Their Country" Not to everyones taste for sure, but it proves you can take anything and do it in your own style.
5. Lyin' Eyes by the eagles was the one that I really hated in my last band. Cant stand the song. We currently have Are You Gonna Go My Way (Lenny Kravitz) which I dont mind as a song but really dont like playing.
6. A blues legend. Saw him in Croydon of all places about 15 years ago, and he did about 3 hours on stage (mostly sitting down).
7. I have two playable and one unplayable. Which is 2 more than I need, and three more than I can play in some other peoples' opinion.
8. As an update the guy did finally show up with a guitar - I hadn't managed to let the rest of the band know what I thought before they contacted him. He was, shall we say, not great! He didn't appear to know how to turn the amp on, or set it up and was only capable of one rhythm. The search goes on.....
9. Theres some further discussion here http://basschat.co.uk/topic/256518-tax-avoidance-and-evasion/page__fromsearch__1
10. T'Pau really has to be one of the worst names. Apparently is some kind of Start Trek reference - I wish they'de not bothered to boldly sing.
11. Joinmyband, but be prepared to sift through the s**t. I found it much easier joping an existing set up than trying to start from scratch.
12. On my P Bass rolled back to about 80% - sometimes adjusted downwards slightly if I'm using a pick. Tone is rolled back as well - theres a sweet spot at about 90%.
13. I fear the rest of the band will agree to call him, even though his musical taste is very different fom the band - Dire Staits is not in our set list, and will never be as long as I'm part of it
14.
Sounds like he auditioned you and has decided he wants you all in his band.
Yes, but he could have done that and brought his plank couldn't he?
15. So we contacted a rhythm guitarist and he came along to practice on Thursday. We told him we had a gig coming up and told him we could only give him half an hour. He turned up without a guitar and told us he didn't want to distract us, listened to us for a while and left saying he hoped we'd call him after the gig. What was the f***ing point of that?
16. Can't Get Enough of Your Love is an absolute all time no no for me. Its kind of everything I hate in a cover song all in one go.
17. I dont care what they think in the shop. I'm the customer and its my money so if I wanna play a one note ACDC line its my choice. But the whole point of trying the thing out is to see how it fits with what you do, so I thik the last time I went with: Love Cats by the cure to see how it feels and low down Scar Tissue to see how it feels and sounds up the dusty end and how it sound with more than one note ringing Some chromaticwarm up exercise stuff to check theres no duff notes anywhere
18. Difference between my fretting and non fretting hand is not as pronounced as the OPs pic. I put this down to the exercise the muscles on the fretting hand get - I assume these are muscles for span because muscles for clenching are mostly in the forearm.
19.
I've heard of people being stopped and searched for receipts when going through customs for this very reason. From what I remember, the personal allowance for bringing items into the UK from outside of the EU is quite low and might just be enough for a set of stribgs (but certainly not enough for a bass).
The limit is £390 assuming you're arriving on something other than your own plane! Once you go over £390 it incurs duty and VAT so unless you're saving a upwards of 25% its not worth it.
20. Every song has its place, but every song by Bryan Adams place is in hell.
21. The answer would be something small and very expensive. Bear in mind you are supposed to cough up duty when you bring it through the airport on landing, and don't forget to warn her about the sales tax which is added at the till.
22. I feel the OP's pain. Usually its a bunch of cut and paste originals who think theyre gonna be the next big thing. Everytime I have the misfortune of seeking a new band I really wonder about giving up and concentrating on home recording. Cue observations about me playing with myself in the spare bedroom.
23.
I have noticed that I seem to walk a step back and then forward again quite regularly...no clue why though.
Do you have a Shadows fixation, but cant remember the rest of the moves?
24. In response to the OP I generally roll up to the rehearsal room with my plank, pedaltrain and two leads. The kit in the hired room is generally as good if not better than my own kit (lovely Trace Elliot yesterday , normally use an Ashdown there) . I don't see much point in messing with my own set up to fine tune settings thet will probably sound completely different in another room anyway. The guitarist takes several guitars, a mahoosive pedalboard, several suitcases full of essentials and an unfeasibly loud amp. I think he does it for the attention.
