1. Just fired off an e-mail asking Adrian if he's exhibiting at the London Bass Show in March. Here's his reply: Hello, I don't know, maybe. Write to the organization you will see me at the stage. Greetings Adrian Can anyone more familiar with the show tell me what he means?
2. Don't apologise solo - you're absolutely right! My body's suffered from 5 decades of bass-playing wear and tear too. Over the past couple of years I've tried pretty much every s-s bass I could get my hands on - and seem to have ended up buying most of them! So now it's time to get back down to the 3 or 4 basses that best suit my needs (I've already sold a Gibson SG, a Les Paul DC, a Hofner Club and a fretles Scott Whitley SWB-1). This one plays/sounds virtually as good as the more expensive stuff I'm keeping!
3. This is a mint/unmarked example of a really nice s-s bass. I had it set up by my local luthier with my preferred D'Addario EXL220S strings and the price is delivered UK and includes the excellent gig-bag that came with my Maruszczyk Cazpar (that now has a hard case and the bag's a perfect fit for the Talman). Here's the spec: Construction: Mahogany with rosewood fretboard (radius = 9.5") Scale length: 30" with 20 medium frets Weight: 3.3kg / 7.3lbs Neck width at nut: 41mm / 1.6" Pups: Dynamix P (neck), Dynamix J (bridge) Reason for sale? Too much stuff coming in!!
4. Mint/unmarked example finished in Root Beer Metallic with Ibanez Mikro gig-bag in equally good nick. I bought this a while back after deciding I needed a light/compact fix for a short period of marathon rehearsals during new band start-up. Also proved ideal to have on my lap while sat at the pc working bass parts out. Apart from the convenience though, must also say that I'm surprised by just how capable this little bass is! Selling now as part of latest 'stuff has to go because other stuff's coming in' purge.
5. I keep coming back to have another look at this just to remind myself how gorgeous it is!
6. "Friend has a black Jack with the EMGs that he's had since he bought it new years and years ago, it's immaculate - but he won't sell it to me " How unreasonable is that?!
7. What a beast - and a very rare one too!
8. "I loved owning a bass that actually had a red LED on it...." I felt the same about my old TE head with the UV-lit front panel - didn't have an LED on my bass though.
9.
I think Mark Gooday, who founded Ashdown, was a designer and engineer for Trace Elliot. He might have been the chief designer at Trace Elliot but I'm going from memory here can't be bothered doing a Google search to confirm this.
That's exactly right.
10. Greetings bass cousin!
11.
That's a bargain price for such a great and quite unique bass! GLWTS
+1
12. Spare bass and spare amp head for me. 2nd bass does for backup and is usually something a bit more aggressive that I'll use for heavier last set.
13. Still love my AH300SMC GP7s (I've got two). I just love the pre-set and portable/powerful enough thru a TE compact 115 (re-loaded with 300W Celestion) and Ashdown Neo 210 in same-sized cab.
14. Fyi, I sold this to juliusmonk. It was a cracker, and I'm sure it still is - I can recommend him as a top basschatter.
15. And here's the pics: "] "] Thanks for the reassuring feedback guys. Found a couple of unexpected benefits of ownership: shorter than normal case fits across the boot of my car; the bass is stable when you stand it up on the floor thanks to beefy twin strap buttons. All good then!
16. I'm no expert on Stingrays but had a play on what looks, feels and sounds like a really nice one in Jaywalk Guitars, Street that's up for £899 inc case. I've bought a couple of basses from them and Geraint and Dan are really good guys.
17. Just bought a lovely active Hohner Jack from those nice guys Geraint and Dan at Jaywalk Guitars in Street (Somerset). Nipped in to the shop today on spec (as you do), saw this amongst the used stuff and had a go out of curiosity. Loved it! Wasn't expecting such a different playing experience from everything else I've owned. It even wants to sit on the strap in a different position - closer to vertical than normal (like Bill Wyman in the '60s) that feels strangely natural to me. Anybody out there got/had one? I'd be interested in any kind of feedback. I'll post a pic or 2 this weekend. PS Also gave a US Standard Jag a run - what a tone-monster is that!!
18. Well done for posting this thread w-o-t! Nothing I can add to - or take away from - what's already been said, so I guess I'll just go and play my 'best of' cd again... and again...
19. According to the Bacchus website, the WJB Mini is manufactured in brown burst, red, pale blue, mid-blue, green, black and white - and turns out to have a 750mm (=29.53") scale length.
20. Interesting. Been on the Bacchus and GuitarDen(official UK distributor) websites now. The mini Jazz seems to be the only bass on offer at <£1000 - typical prices are nearer £2k. They're positioning themselves as a premium manufacturer of 'hand-made' guitars designed in Japan and built there and elsewhere. First time this lot have appeared on my radar screen but at £350 the 30"-scale Jazz could be a steal provided they haven't 'dumbed down' on the quality - they shouldn't have if they intend it to be the bottom rung on the Bacchus brand ownership ladder.
21.
Thanks for the heads up OBBM. The Bacchus looks very classy,i didn't think there was much choice in the SS market. Seems I was wrong.
Just had a look and I agree - this line from the spec did amuse me though: BODY: Popular
22. Cripes! Just had a look at some of the ones mentioned above and they seem amazingly expensive - even compared to hard cases.
23. Wonderful bass! I've got/had* one that I lent/gave* to my son about 10 years ago! (*Delete as appropriate).
