1. Fyi, I sold this to juliusmonk. It was a cracker, and I'm sure it still is - I can recommend him as a top basschatter.
2. And here's the pics: "] "] Thanks for the reassuring feedback guys. Found a couple of unexpected benefits of ownership: shorter than normal case fits across the boot of my car; the bass is stable when you stand it up on the floor thanks to beefy twin strap buttons. All good then!
3. I'm no expert on Stingrays but had a play on what looks, feels and sounds like a really nice one in Jaywalk Guitars, Street that's up for £899 inc case. I've bought a couple of basses from them and Geraint and Dan are really good guys.
4. Just bought a lovely active Hohner Jack from those nice guys Geraint and Dan at Jaywalk Guitars in Street (Somerset). Nipped in to the shop today on spec (as you do), saw this amongst the used stuff and had a go out of curiosity. Loved it! Wasn't expecting such a different playing experience from everything else I've owned. It even wants to sit on the strap in a different position - closer to vertical than normal (like Bill Wyman in the '60s) that feels strangely natural to me. Anybody out there got/had one? I'd be interested in any kind of feedback. I'll post a pic or 2 this weekend. PS Also gave a US Standard Jag a run - what a tone-monster is that!!
5. Well done for posting this thread w-o-t! Nothing I can add to - or take away from - what's already been said, so I guess I'll just go and play my 'best of' cd again... and again...
6. According to the Bacchus website, the WJB Mini is manufactured in brown burst, red, pale blue, mid-blue, green, black and white - and turns out to have a 750mm (=29.53") scale length.
7. Interesting. Been on the Bacchus and GuitarDen(official UK distributor) websites now. The mini Jazz seems to be the only bass on offer at <£1000 - typical prices are nearer £2k. They're positioning themselves as a premium manufacturer of 'hand-made' guitars designed in Japan and built there and elsewhere. First time this lot have appeared on my radar screen but at £350 the 30"-scale Jazz could be a steal provided they haven't 'dumbed down' on the quality - they shouldn't have if they intend it to be the bottom rung on the Bacchus brand ownership ladder.
8.
Thanks for the heads up OBBM. The Bacchus looks very classy,i didn't think there was much choice in the SS market. Seems I was wrong.
Just had a look and I agree - this line from the spec did amuse me though: BODY: Popular
9. Cripes! Just had a look at some of the ones mentioned above and they seem amazingly expensive - even compared to hard cases.
10. Wonderful bass! I've got/had* one that I lent/gave* to my son about 10 years ago! (*Delete as appropriate).
11. Thanks for info jaccjazz - love the Atelier but more than I want to spend (not saying isn't worth it!!). Glad you like my SWB-1 mod - the challenge was to make something that would fix using the existing strap-button screw hole and not mark the finish. GLWTS
12. Thanks for the info j-j. Nowadays I'll only play something that's light and correctly balanced - hence my home-made SWB-1 extension bracket (must get round to finishing it in satin black)! "]http:// It's also why I sold my 2008 SG Reissue that was otherwise probably the best bass I've ever had.
13. My Cazpar came in just under 4 weeks - it was virtually standard, but that's what I wanted.
14. Very nice too! When was it made and what's the strap-balance like?
15. Thanks p'g'man - that's what I thought/hoped you would say. At least I now know he has done triple-pup versions. Ideally I would like the lipstick pups (they look/sound so cool) but, if that wasn't possible, I would accept his nearest equivalent stock pup - which only leaves the 5-switch electrics as potentially non-M-standard.
16. OK, so I've had a flash of inspiration for a M custom that would be just perfect for me - don't know why I've only just thought of it. My absolute favourite bass is my Fender Rascal, but it's regrettably up for sale being just too heavy for long sets with my dodgy neck/shoulder. What I love about the Rascal is the unique pup/control configuration using 3 'lipstick' pups, a Strat-style 5-position slide selector switch, and a stacked tone pot. With the stack knob down your switching options are: 1) neck pup; 2) neck + mid; 3) mid; 4) mid + bridge; 5) bridge. Pull on the knob (!?) and the first 2 switch positions change to neck + bridge, and all 3 pups. I think this set-up is brilliant as it's quick and intuitive and gives you instant access to a whole range of different sounds without having to fiddle with tone and vol pot's. OK, so the idea is to ask Adrian to quote me for a s-s build based on the Elwood C with the same or equivalent pups/controls as the Rascal and lightweight construction around 3.5kg. Communicating with Adrian in English can be a bit tricky so I want to gather a bit more info first. Can anybody give me the correct generic description of the pups, switches etc Fender use on the Rascal and are the Fender or equivalent items readily available off the shelf? Maybe I'm wrong, but I'm guessing these things are not just picked from the Strat parts bin. Final question for pierreganseman: do you think Adrian would take this on?
17.
Chambered J or P style from Adrian are usually around 3,5 kilo ... anywhere between 3,3 to 3,7 ... whatever that is in your things lol. cheers
Thanks for the info.
18. I would say so as you're not trying to pass it off as something it's not. I'd maybe use better-matching fonts if poss.
19. Seems a kind of odd thing to sell via Gumtree - that and the price suggests the seller just wants it gone with minimal hassle. Unless, of course, all is not what it appears to be?!
20. Very nice pair of Jakes you've got there. How much weight does the chambering save?
21. Worth the asking price just as an 'objet d'art' - the musicality would be an extra bonus!!
22.
Get in touch with All Thumbs from this parish. He has a website about s/s basses and uses many himself.
Aka Scott Whitley.
