Please excuse my ignorance, but what benefits does this combo have over the MB112 200w combo that is half its price?? I have little experience with the GK range however i am looking for a compact combo so any info would be great
No idea, I've never seen, heard or played the mb200. Try googling the specs, they are all on the gk site. In a nutshell, the mb200 looks like part of a different budget range of mb combos. The mb150 is smaller and lighter, made from aluminium not wood, and is a legendary piece of kit. It might not fit your requirements however, so the mb200 might benefit you better, I have no idea what your requirements are. cheers G -

I thought I'd publicise this, as it may be of interest to the double bass fraternity. I'm going to head down to see this as it's only about 5mins walk for me, hopefully the sun will be shining!
Hows about a 1990 warwick thumb NT4 with schack and stuff? http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=131245 jamie
thanks Jamie, that's the second Thumb I've been offered in a trade, and even though I like the sound of the Thumb NT basses, I don't get on with them physically, so I'm afraid it's not for me. Sorry! Cheers G

i had a similar dilemma a few years ago about selling my first proper bass - a Fender Jazz Bass Special, from the late 80's. I decided to sell. I can't say I've really missed it even though it was a great bass, and probably still is for someone. I'd vote for selling, and getting something you'll play and get as much pleasuer from as the Fender user to give you. FWIW I played a Sandberg Ken Taylor sig once, it was an awesome sounding bass too. Much nicer than the Lakland 55-02 I played back to back with it.

getting a few trade offers... I've not thought about it too much really here's a list of what would interest me: NS CR5 / CR5M EUB (straight trade) Sadowsky 4 string Lakland US 5er An electic g**tar (yep, I said it ) (I'm partial to a Fender Strat, or a more modern version of it) An 4 string 70's style J bass, be it Fender, Lakland DJ or similar Cort/Elrick RB5 (but not in green) Lakland 55-02 (not really looking for a P style basses) that's all I can think of for now, other than straight cash offers are also welcome ;0)

I found this great clip on youtube last night, not sure if it's been posted up before? Anyway, it's a great tune, and a very well done melodic slap bass line, IMO, that fits the song and is not some tedious techinque-fest. This guy should be commended!

*NOW SOLD* Hello all, I recently traded my BSR5J Ken Smith for this GB Spitfire, with BC user "thestick". He got is originally from "davebass66" as originally seen here on this thread. My original aim was to sell the Smith and put the money toward something specific, but in these times it seems gear isn't selling too quick, so I thought I'd give the GB a go. So I'm now looking to sell or maybe trade this Spitfire. There are some good pictures on the original FS thread (thanks Dave!) so I won't add any more here for the moment, and I've not got any of my own pictures to post yet anyway! EDIT for clickable thumbnails of the original pictures Right, the bass... 35" scale Neck 42mm at the nut (which is about 1 11/16th inches I think!), and 20mm deep. 66mm/25mm @ the 12th fret and 75mm wide at the 24th fret Ash body (at least it looks like it to me) Birdseye maple neck and fingerboard (which looks awesome!) Quilted maple top. The bridge allows adjustable string spacing, but currently set to 19mm GB pickups Active 18v GB electronics, Vol, Pan, Bass, Mid, Treble and a "bright switch", which seems to boost to top end for extra bite. Weight: 9lbs 10oz (on my digital kitchen scales) Comes with the original Hiscox moulded and GB branded case (which is functional, but has seen better days), and 2 scratch plates, a strap and allen key for the truss rod. The strap studs are schaller type ones that wouldn't be very secure without the strap locks themselves - there aren't any with the bass, but I've got an old set somewhere that I'll include with the bass if I can find them. (Re. the scratch plates - one is black, the other is tortoiseshell. The scrachplates are not attached by screws, so there are no drill holes in the body of the bass. The tortoise shell one fits very snugly with no adhesive required. It looks like some double sided sticky tape has been required with the black plate.) Trev "thestick" told me that he had the bass/electronics set up & serviced by Bernie Goodfellow when he got the bass, so everything is working as it should, and it's currently set with quite low action - probably a little too low for my heavy handed playing, but it's good to know that it's possible to set it up like that. Sound wise, it sounds like a GB. A very modern smooth full sound (very much like a GB Rumour I had a few years back). The B string sounds tremendous, and is proper earthshaking stuff! Very clear fundamental, I can't imagine it gets any better in fact Condition: this has been a players bass, so it's far from perfect, but it's certainly not been trashed. Mostly finish marks and some dings, which because of the colour of the bass are pretty hard to make out unless you're looking up close. I think I'd struggle make them show in pictures. So, overall, I'd give it a 7.5 to 8 out of 10. Why am I moving it on? I've not had it long enough to get attached yet! Playability wise and sound wise I can't fault it. However, the neck is more of a C shape than what I'm used to, which is a slightly flatter D shape, and although the narrow neck still makes it a really easy 5er to play, it ain't what I'm used to. So there you have it! A very nice bass all round, but not pristine so you won't have to worry too much when you gig it I will consider trades, but they will have to be local. And ideally a sale would be local too. EDIT: that's local to West London or North/South Wales. Very interested in a NS EUB 5, if anyone has one to trade. Otherwise, trades with cash my way. Any questions? Please ask! Oh, and the price is in the title... Thanks G

another positive feedback for Trev (AKA "thestick"). We traded basses, not much else to it, but it all went very smoothly and as planned. he also makes a nice cuppa Cheers Trev, hope you enjoy the Smith, I'm sad to see it go... G

i seem to remember the original FS by Pierre mentioned that this bass came from the Gallery in London originally? If so, I may well have played this when it was there. There can't be many purple BNF5's floating around Anyway, it was a fantastic bass, as was the BN5 I walked away with that day, which KermitNT now has. If this is the same bass as I played, it's a killer fretless, and I'm sorely tempted Geert is great to deal with too, in case anyone was wondering.

Gwilym replied to Clarky's topic in Basses For Sale
My, my! This bass has come a long way since I found it tucked at the back (too shy? ) of GAK in Brighton a few years ago (summer 2004 I think). I wonder how it fell on those hard times? A very nice bass, and one of the nicest slap tones I've heard - quite surprised that Nik sold it on! I only moved it because I was starting to play 5 stringers and wanted to focus on that. I'm sure that whoever has it now will be enjoying it too. -
