    After many goes at building a big pedal board with lots of Juicy expensive effects I've finally given up and gone small, compact and functional. Bass - Caveman BP1 Compact - amp. GR Bass preamp in the effect loop of the BP1 compact and used for drive / fuzz only.

    I've come to the conclusion that just not a pedal board freak so all effect pedals have gone and I've simplified everything to a small board. New pedal is the most excellent Caveman BP1 Compact.

    I'm currently using a 1993 Musicman SR5 for all my gigs because I love the punchy Stingray sound. However the weigh at 4.75kg is starting to take its toll. I did own 2 Maruszczyk basses over 10 years ago and wasn't very impressed by their standard hardware. The bridge and tuners were made of cheese. The grub screws just fell apart. On visiting the Maruszczyk pages I started to configure a light weigh 32" scale chambered body Jake with light weight branded hardware. What do you think? Mermaid or Gold finish?

    A week into ownership I noticed the hum problem that these are prone too. A quick internet search revealed a simple mod, just two components need to be soldered onto the board. Hum has now completed disappeared. Its now perfect.

    I've have been very happy with the ultra clean and precise sound from my GR Bass amp, cab and preamp pedal...... But we all like a little bit of dirt now and again don't we. So.... Bass Bros had this Ampeg PF50 and cab for sale and I hit the buy button without hesitation. I had for some stupid reason thought the cab was the 12" version. I looked again this morning and it was clearly marked 15". Will ( bass Bros ) very kindly said he would take it back if it did not suit my needs. After leaving it a few minutes to warm up I was pleasantly impressed with the warm sound that filled the rehearsal room. Obviously it sounds completely different from the GR Bass, they are so different. I'm not going to gig it, it's just for my person practicing pleasure..... Nice.
