Helix Floor/LT/HX/Stomp/PodGo owners' Club - Tips, Ideas & Patches

Looks like the Stomp is getting the HX Command centre in V3. That’s a cool feature to have but i cant help feel the lack of foot switches will be a bottle neck. -

Thats a really useful and interesting video. So officially the amp and cab sims are improved in 2.9. Also Polytuning coming in FW 3 as well which is cool, although ive found it a bit of a gimmick. -

Yeah. Some find it hard enough reading an instruction pamphlet 😏😂 -

Yeah, was re posted here on Saturday...... Keep up 😁 -
Thanks. I know what i want but not really up on whats out there. I cant use Garagband as it doesn’t seem to allow me to easily take out sections of larger files. As far as i can see only spitting files. I have got further. WavePad works pretty well for cutting down the large files. in fact its faster than me doing it on my PC. It lacks the smoothness at the joins, but its only rehearsal recordings. I can save the edited wave file to the FIles app. I can then send that file to Final Touch to master. I then save it to an app called Audio Share. This then allows me to export to whatever format i want (other than MP3 iconically). AAC 320kbps seems fine for my use. Doesn’t have to be MP3. Its a long winded workflow so ill keep on looking, but its still faster than using just one program on my PC to do it all. The rendering times on on iPad are very short compared to my PC. If only these apps all spoke to each other. Audio Share is supposed to glue it all together, ironic is doesn’t do MP3 though. Thanks for the input though.

Quick update. Think ill drop Hokusai in favour of WavePad. Just found this. Much more user friendly for cutting and trimming. It also has all the features i need for outputting. Still not ideal for mastering though. Only issue with this app is when you hit the stop button it jumps to the start of the file. Hitting Pause works but it’s easy to forget. Also no apple keyboard support.

Thanks. I use a Roland digital recorder to record the Gigs and rehearsals. This is in 24 bit 48khz wav format. I normally transfer these files to Adobe Audition on my PC. Cut out the gaps etc and output to high quality MP3 using Ozone mastering suite. As my ipad is more powerful i thought I’d give that a try. I can import the wav files in to Hokusai 2 and do the trimming. That too is a bit hit or miss but it does work. It does have loads of good plug ins but Final Touch seemed prefect as i can transfer the wav files directly in to it, and output to MP3. The interface is also very similar to Ozone and not just a long list of plugins. MP3 because i upload the files to DB for the others to download and listen to (yeah, as if they do that). So I’m looking for a proper mastering suite or section rather than seperate tools if that makes sense. FT will output 48khz MP3, but only at 125kbps. Normally I’d use 320kbps, but need to vary it sometimes to keep the file under 200mb for Apple Music. I dont mind buying a DAW that includes mastering, ive seen a few good ones, but not going to stretch to something like Cubasis 3 which is much too expensive. I’m only working with single stereo files. For Daw stuff I’m happy using GarageBand.

I love the neck on my 425, but felt the 435 was a bit faster to get around. Not quite as chunky (not that the 425 is chunky per say) and seemed flatter.

As above. I’m trying to shift all my music making over to my iPad, as it’s the most powerful device I have an app that will allow me to trim rehearsal files, but I need to give them a bit of a boost and polish. Seen loads of reviews about Final Touch, but it’s turning out to be a real piece of crap. Can’t change bit rare for mp3, can’t save to anywhere on the iPad other than within the app, and it crashes often.

Cheers, ill give that a try this afternoon. Sounds ideal. I must admit ive not really explored a lot of the other bits in my Helix. Just stuck to Bass amps and the effects section. Tried IR’s but didnt like them. -
I only have ears for a 434. Cheers anyway.

Sounds like a real gent. Oh yeah, white would have been great. i though £400 was pretty good for that bass. What I’m not keen on is the ‘X’ factor, the plates. Prefer the look of the standard versions.

Chester rings a bell, so yeah, might have been that one. Was most tempted myself but after having a 435 for a bit I’d get a 434 if i was going for another Yamaha. I just spent about 15mins looking for it but couldn’t see it anywhere. Thought i might have imagined it.

Saw one on FB a few days ago. Burst finish. . Been trying to find it again but its not showing.

Get the one you like. Worth doesn’t come in to it IMO. If its the bass you like, with the tone you like, its worth the extra for it. If you get the cheaper one and not too sure about it, its not worth it and you may end up regretting it. I cant say which is better for you, but i loved the Ash/burst when i had one. If it hadn’t been faulty I’d still have it. There will be a minor difference in tone (different strings will make more of a difference), and hardly noticeable if you play with a band. Both will feel the same, so its really down to looks IMO. Obviously this is based on trying them out. If you cant get them from somewhere you can return them (I’m gushing Andertons).

Nice one. Always good to have mates in the right places.

Tell me about it. New ipad, pencil and keyboard case within the first 2 weeks of lockdown lol. That will do the job though.....hopefully.

Just a thought but if you have a wireless system it might be worth trying that. -

On my PC when i get chalking and issues like you describe it was normally down to having the latency too low, and like you say, the system is struggling getting it processed and out again. I ‘think’ you should be ok with higher latency and monitor off the Stomp. At least it has direct monitoring. Its been a while since i used a DAW on a computer, and ive not used a Mac for anything like this so i might be talking rubbish. -

Are you monitoring direct from the Helix or through your Mac? Does it happen if you use the headphone out on the Stomp? Tried with the Helix in bypass mode to get a clean tone? Have you read the bit in the manual about using it with a DAW on Mac? Just wondering if there are any pointers there. -

I dont have a mac, but ive heard this on my windows PC with some devices. Normally down to latency. Do you have it set for a very short time? The other cause has been when using something plugged in to the mains and going through USB as well. Zoom comes to mind here. Obviously this cant be the cause here though. Is this with the recorded audio or just everything? Not hearing it through the headphones when recording? -

That’s what I use a lot of the time instead of an Amp sim. It’s the BDDI so designed to do the same job. I used to have it as always on in my HFX as well. I cant say I noticed it being quoted though, unless you are running it without the drive on. Seems to match the real thing which I also have. -
Another vote for a Becos. I have this small one. Its simple to use (believe me, it needs to be for me) but has enough control to easily get what you need out of it, without worrying about the finer points that can get confusing. All IME of course. Having the meter is a huge help in seeing whats happening and understanding whats going on. https://becosfx.com/product/compiq-mini-pro-compressor-pedal-for-guitar-bass/

Have you tried using GarageBand with the iRig? Just to see if it makes a difference? I used to use the older iRig HD with my old iPad and it worked fine, but better if going in to an amp sim on the ipad. GB has them, and there are plenty of others. My fav two are the GK one, and Jam up. This has Trace Elliot and Ashdown AMB sims as well as lots of others. Allows for independent gain control. EDIT: Sorry, just noticed you mention Amplitube. So this is the iRig that uses the headphone jack? Personally I’d get something that uses the Lighting port (assuming yours has this,). They cost a bit more but will be much better both for noise and latency.

We sent a framed picture from London to Aberdeen for next day delivery last week. It arrived the next day. Just saying. No, but less people to collect, sort and deliver them.
