    Its a Boss EQ-200. I wasn't even aware of this until last week. I could use my Helix Stomp, but i felt it’s overkill for my needs. The Boss seems to fit all the criteria, its even battery powered. It has 3 different sets of EQ points for the 10 band, one more tailored for full range keyboards. Its also much cheaper than the Source Audio, and has real sliders. I really just need something to tweak the sound of my synth so its not too harsh or muddy. The rehearsal studio’s PA is pretty crap, and their desk only has 3 band EQ. Our desk is no better, although our speakers are much better. Ill be able to use a preset for the studio and one for our PA, with the ability to easily tweak.

    That’s what i ended up doing and i feel i made the right choice. More bulk but i like that its more modular as well. I prefer to buy things that can have multiple uses. Also easier to swap out one side if a cable dies on me.

    A normal jack to jack will be fine, assuming your in and out on the amp are separate jacks.

    Haha, yeah. it managed to blow both our PA speakers when one idiot turned it right up at a sound check. that was a very manic 2 hours trying to source new speakers while on the job.

    Another option, although more costly, is to post it rather than travel with it.

    We have had weddings and parties booked in the past by people that have seen us at a public gig. Doesn't have to be a record company.

    Whats an audience got to do with anything? People don’t normally record with an audience do they? I said the performance sounded lame, not just the vocals. In fact i said he had a good voice. Anyway, McCartney is even older so how about giving him a break?

    Saw this earlier today. I thought it was quite lame. Cant put my finger on it, it just seemed to lack energy IMO. He still has a great voice though, and I love playing this song (more so now I’m playing keys).

    Thats where backline comes in useful i guess. I must admit I’m old school, i like the feel and sound of a live band, either from the audience or on stage. If i want to listen to a polished CD mix i can stay at home. Also i (like a lot of us) like gear, spend money getting the tone i want from it. I cant imagine going ampless on bass. Ironically, as I’m going back to keys i guess i will be using the PA and no backline.

    Indeed, and this shows a that a bit more thought needs to be done rather just leaving your amps at home and relying on your normal PA. My GF/singer got a set of IEM’s for Christmas. She sometimes struggles to hear herself on stage. It seemed like a good idea at the time but there is more involved (as we all know).

    Saw a band in a mid sized pub last year. No back line on stage. All IEM and they had a real drum kit. At the back of the room the sound was great, but on the dance floor there seemed to be a huge hole in the mix. Didn’t enjoy that at all. People were dancing but i noticed they were dancing more in front of the PA speakers, and no one was really dancing in the middle, in front of the band.

    This is ideal for upright bass. Its not instrument specific so works with most things. I would be using it myself as a pre amp (with electric bass though). I have in the past, but the one thing i find lacking is no drive. For this reason ive struggled to use this over my BDDI. The EQ on this is outstanding, and has a HPF/LPF as well, but it was never quite enough as a one pedal solution if i wanted more than one tone.

    Very true. In the past ive put my CV Jazz neck on to two other bodies, its so nice. Mostly on my old CVP. One day i was playing it at rehearsal and thought I’d better put its own neck back on, only to find i had. Best P neck ever......

    Well yeah, and during those discussions its been mentioned loads of times. Thats all I meant. Its not something that anyone doesnt already know if they have been reading the thread, and not just jumping in at the end of it.

    I got a first gen CV Jazz. Since owning it ive had 4 other Jazz basses, inc a really nice MIA jazz. None of them best the CV. Close, but never enough to keep them AND the CV. Still got the CV as my only 4 string jazz bass. The neck is the best ive ever owned, and ive had this on a few bodies, inc 2 P’s.

    Sold my 2009 CVP today. Felt more of a loss than when i sold my Yamaha P34 last week.

    Ive had this for a couple of years, brought new by me, and love it to bits. Problem is i haven’t really had a use for it. I did trade it for a bass last year, and then brought it back. Its very versatile, and can be used for more than just bass. Our singer has used it for vocals at gigs, and me and my guitarist used it extensively on the last demo. Its got a nice warm/vintage vibe, but it works for everything. Now i have a Graphic EQ i really don’t have a use for this anymore.
