Fair enough. I think its a right mess as well. We (the band) take our own gear other than PA. Our singer wears surgical gloves all night, so she is safe using the PA, and we make sure we are keeping our distance from each other. Its a large room so thats not hard. Its a gamble just stepping out of the house these days, but they’re is so many conflicting new reports that i just use common sense.

How would you know if it is or isnt? We now how it’s transmitted, common sense will go a long way.

Same with our studio. Lets not foget its not a total lock down like the first. Parole are still going to work/school etc. The tiers seem to be aimed at keeping away from each other unless there is a need. We had this discussion a few weeks ago on here. My band has been rehearsing on a fortnightly basis and really enjoying it. I live for playing in bands, and it seems like the others do as well, so we enjoy playing in a band environment without a need to have a financial reason to do it. Would be nice if we did though. Ironically we canceled tonight’s one as earlier today the drummer was pinged by the NHS app and told to isolate for 14 days. And there was me going to kick him out after it lol.

Damn, ive just seen a video explaining the new User Default and Favourite settings on the Stomp. What a great time saver. Wish L6 had come up with those earlier.

I thought the tuner was a great idea when i got my BH800, but i kept seeing it flash out of the corner of my eye and thinking the amp was clipping. It got really annoying after a while.

Not really, we just do normal rehearsals regularly and i use that time to get used to a new device. I try and prep as much as i can at home, but with headphones it’s difficult setting patches, so im always keen to rehearse. I do learn the songs though so i have plenty of time to fiddle with knobs, while the knobs work out what they should be playing lol. We would never have a technical rehearsal, as I’m really the only one that cares. Until very recently i was the only one that took my own rig/gear.

Yeah. My MB800 has a loud fan. In fact i can hear it at rehearsals between songs sometimes. Never been an issue at gigs though.

Agreed. The (my) original point was, the settings that work at home may well not work for a band, and its helpful for others to know if they do or not. Not that you have to use them live. Ive had pedals that are quite hissy at high-ish gain, and I’d say they were unusable because you can hear it, when at home with nothing else making a noise. If using it with a band you may never hear it. So you could say to someone its too hissy, but without clarification might give the wrong impression. Thats just a weak example, but it did happen to me.

You have obviously never been on the Earnie Ball forum. Talk about anything they haven’t made and all hell breaks loose.

Ive got the 1spot wall wart, but over the years ive had a few issues with it. Most of the time its been perfect, but at least two pedals (IIR) have produced hum when using it. I got the EBS version and have had no issues. Still got both but never use the 1Spot now.

Yeah, wasn’t talking personally, its just how some feel. I think the Yamaha take on the P is a bit prettier than the Fender, although put flats on any of them and it all goes to pot (unless you are Iron Maiden of course)lol.

For years i would gig without rehearsals, as we were gigging every weekend, so anything i brought was taken from home to gigs and played. At home most always sounded great. I kept getting disappointed at how the pedals sounded at gigs though, but never really had the opportunity to get them right (no sound check’s etc). It was only when the new line up started to rehearse more then gig that I’d have a proper opportunity to play with effects (and rigs). I found that what worked at home (or mostly at work where I could set a small rig up at the weekends) wasn't ideal for band use. Sometimes it was just the settings, but a few times it was perfect until i played with the band, then I just couldn't get them to work. Things like phasers/chorus/Filter etc sound great in isolation, but ive found them to need quite a bit of tweaking to sound right with a loud band and at volume. They just seem to get lost sometimes. Maybe its just me though. I can never play loud at home. These days, while i appreciate others giving reviews of what soemthing cant do, i reserve judgment on how well it works for me until ive used it with the band (unless it’s just for home use). YouTube etc is good for the technical reviews and overviews, but ive never found something coming out of a pair of hifi speakers will match what comes out of my rig anyway.

Yes, exactly this. Other instruments (and drummers) will change how it sounds in a mix, freq’s’ can clash etc, and its this that will matter to me when I’m gigging or rehearsing. Obviously if you hate something at home there will be a good chance its just not right for you, but over the years ive loved something at home, only to find it doesnt work live because something gets lost or boosted etc. Tone sucking seems to be a big one for me. A lot of those drives ive had sounded good at home in the bedroom or at work though a small rig, but with the band they were noticeably lacking in low end or punch. I totally get that some dont gig and i have no problem with that, but for me i have to know how it sounds in my environment, and i think that’s helpful for others that do play in bands and not just sit at home.

Oh yeah, ive not given up playing bass, I’m just not doing it at the moment, so i need to hang on to the best basses i have 😁

Nothing elitist the about it at all. Where do you get that from? I think its blinkered to think the two are the same. Surely if you are going to use it with a band, with a band is the best test? Obviously you can use it at home but if it doesn't work with the band then you look for something else. IME everything sounds great at home, and you hear everything clearly. Not sure what where you are going with this as i said in my last post that this was important to me. I never said it as a blanket statement to cover everyone, and anyone that plays in a band will know how the sound gets changed from playing at low bedroom levels etc.

And all in a live band context, none of that at home/isolation stuff from me, which is important to me as thats how i would use them.

Been through, but never used all at once 😁. In fact never more than one on my board (plus a preamp sometimes) at any one time, and this was on an almost weekly rotation until i stopped. More is good, not knocking that at all, and i do believe bass sounds more in testing with an effect or 2, but more then you would ever need and calling it a negative.....just silly.

Same here. The only reason my Stomp out lasted my HFX was for home playing, where its a bit easier to use with headphones. Thats the only time i used an amp sim, and even then by the end i was pretty much using the BDDI sim instead. I would have liked a LT, but like the Pod go it has the expression pedal on it, and i would never use it. Yes, i could have just not used it, but its sitting there making the board larger than it would need to be without it.

Haha, and I still never used more than 6 blocks in my HFX. I think it’s very easy to get things out of perspective on here. It seems to be a ‘you can’ rather than ‘you will’ a lot of the time. I just don’t get the ‘must have’ when in reality you won’t, ever. EDIT: That seems a bit judgmental, it wast supposed to be. I have nothing against having more, i just think its easy to go over the top and then never use most of it.

I really think as a bass player if you need that many effect blocks you are playing the wrong instrument lol.
