Calling all iPad Garageband users - a few questions for you?
dave_bass5 replied to visog's topic in Accessories and Misc
The best you can get on the iPad version of GB is a piano roll editor. -
we had our first in 6 weeks last night. Nothing to write home about but it was the first time ive had to use cables rather than my wireless system (rechargeable didnt recharge properly). It felt really strange. It was also the first time in years that ive used a floor pedal, and combined with the extra 30ft of cable around my feet it was a bit of a struggle.

iPad Rig - is there a floor board to use with amplitube?
dave_bass5 replied to xilddx's topic in General Discussion
I suppose though if you timed it with the guitarists tune ups it wouldn't be so bad
With my band i'd have time to check my Facebook and email, do some tweeting and look at porn between each song -
iPad Rig - is there a floor board to use with amplitube?
Going from the alseis website http://www.alesis.com/ampdock
"The Power of iPad The AmpDock gives you all the controls you need to use your favorite guitar apps while performing or recording. Fire up apps like GarageBand, AmpliTube or JamUp, and use AmpDock's controls to instantly switch between your presets or activate effects" This is confusing as i know my copy of Amplitube wont recognise anything plugged in to the dock connector, and there are many posts around the net saying the same. I know IKM are supposed to be working on this, maybe they have already but hadn't last time i looked (and no updates have been flagged on my iPad). -
Jazz vs Precision sound - what's the difference
dave_bass5 replied to Fat Rich's topic in Bass Guitars
Seems to me the sound you get to hear is a combination of the bass, the amp, the recording set up and possibly the most important is actually the technique and style of the player. Go on, shoot me down in flames.......I'm already bailing out!
I've always thought the same. We can here a difference when we play them but in a mix its sometimes impossible to tell, which to me means it doesn't really matter. -
iPad Rig - is there a floor board to use with amplitube?
dave_bass5 replied to xilddx's topic in General Discussion
Ah right, i was going on the fact that Nigel mentioned amplitube in the first post, and as far as i know that wont work with a dock connection. -
Surely these devices use the dock connector for I/O and therefore are able to substitute the iPads convertors for something that's higher quality?
Which devices are you talking about? The iRig and a few others use the headphone jack input, but the JAM uses the dock connector and has a better S/N and a stronger signal. -

I'd give up on Amplitube and look for something else. While its not a bad app, as far as i know you can only use the iRig type of interfaces that use the headphone jack as the input, at the moment at least. Having owned two, and now owing the Apogee JAM interface i can tell you there is a world of difference as far as signal level and noise goes. -
Bass Guitar Magazine Available on Apple Newsstand iPad/iPhone
dave_bass5 replied to bencooper's topic in General Discussion
Thanks for the reply Ben. I realise you are restricted to the system used by the reader but a bit less wasted space would make quite a difference IMO. i'll definitely be sticking with the mag in one form or the other. Who knows, after 3 months i might get used to it and stick with the iPad, it will be more convenient, especially when travelling.. Im so out of touch with who's who and whats what that im looking forward to getting stuck in. -

Funny enough i find it ok on my iphone 4. On that i would expect to have to scroll around so im not too bothered, but on the ipad im used to reading books etc without all that extra messing around. -

I've just signed up for a 3 month sub. First impressions are good and bad. The content is great, even for someone like me who doesn't read bass mags I can see quite a bit to keep me I interested. Unfortunately it's the act of reading that I don't think I'll get on with. There seems to be a lot of wasted space, making it a necessity to keep having to scroll around all the time. It's a shame the top and bottom tool bars can't be hidden to reclaim some more space (if this is possible please correct me). It's also a shame that the images aren't higher resolution. Zooming in to read the text means the images get blurry. I've not seen this with other publications and find it off putting. I expect this is down to the system used, and IMO its lacking the usability of other publications ive seen, so it's probably out of your control but I'm not sure I'll continue with my iPad sub, I will probably sign up for the paper version though. either way I'll stay a customer. Good luck with it, I'm sure it will be a success. -
You could do worse than a quick search on here to find the many, many posts about these basses already After owning basses costing 3 or 4 times more Im down to just two CV's now and very happy to use them as my only gigging basses. Thats not to say they are better, just good enough to use in any situation.
Sorry I don't understand what Dibs means, care to explain thanks!
It means stake a claim for something. So if you get rid of it he wants the first offer.

Wow, what's this doing in the iBass magazine sub forum? Should get it moved to a relevant one like amps and cabs forum so more people will see it.

Never really bothered with Bass mags but this looks interesting. Ill maybe wait and see if there are any back issues/article i can have a look at first but the price seems very reasonable compared to most in this format. Mike. If i download the app now will there be some form of notification in it if you do manage to get some samples up? -
The door doesn't open all the way or enough to hit the basses, there is a stop in place at the bottom.
Ah, thats why there was a Sue Ryder bass on the floor by the door

Sorry my comment has derailed your thread Fran. Appreciate the help though and its always good to see Marlow.

Cheers for the tips Fran, ill practice every night until im good enough to annoy everyone at next years Bass show :-) EDIT: Regarding the photo's, no nee dot use a slow shutter speed with flash, dont worry what the meter is telling you before you take the shot, the Flash will provide enough light to correct the exposure most of the time (i assume you were in Manual mode).

And now Fran has to teach me the dark art of.........slapping :-0

Lovely collection, and I got to play them all :-) Nice sharp pic's Fran.

Agree with Lozz, Schroeders (or at least mine) seem to have two sounds. The close up/standing in front almost bland sound, and the huge/loud room shaking 20ft in front sound. i was quite disappointed in my 1210R when i first got it. Very middy and not much low end, then i went for a wander out front at a soundcheck one night. Almost a completely different tone. Slightly less mids but more low end and to my ears a warmer more balanced tone. Still not a conventional tone to my ear's but ive never struggled to be heard using just one cab.

I'd love one of these cabs, congrats on winning it.

I think that was true of the ones made before 2008 but from then on ive only (mostly) read good things about the 5 string Fenders, it seems 2008 was a good year all round for Fenders.

I think that's the same place we played a few years ago. It was the opening night of a club night, put on my an Indian guy IIR. Huge Indian buffet, loads of staff and no more than 10 guests in the place, and 4 of thoese we winners of a local radio station competition so they didnt pay. Worst run gig I've even been to. To make matter worse the door staff were turning people, away by the end of the night as I think everyone had had enough and was going home. On the upside it turned out the sound guy (Mick) was an old friend of my drummers dad, and a few months later got us out of the poo when our PA speakers sacked up at a wedding. Oh, and your set list looks perfect for the type of night it was supposed to be.
