It is getting close to upgrading preamp time. Despite getting a perfectly good tone from my Fishman preamp it is still only a one channel box. After looking at many options the Grace Designs Felix seems to be the best bet because I can have separate channels for my fretted and fretless basses. Thing is that unlike the Fishman the Felix does not have onboard compression so do I..? a) run the two basses into the separate channels on the Felix and out via a single (blend) channel into a compressor and on into the QSC? b) run the two basses into the separate channels on the Felix and out via separate channels into a dual channel compressor (if there is such a thing?) and on into the QSC? c) save myself a lot of cash and buy another Fishman and run each bass into separate preamps and then out into something that will combine the signals so I can run into the QSC? d) some really obvious solution that I’m too thick to have considered, a small mixing desk, a Helix, something else? ...what would you do with two basses with very different outputs and eq/compression needs that also need to go into a QSC?

As I said, it’s simply a matter of personal choice, what’s blimmin’ useless for one person might be just the ticket for another.

Same here, it’s simply a matter of personal taste that’s usually defined by the markings on the fist fretless you played. There is no right or wrong nor is anything more right than anything else.

Sure! Is that from the same batch of wood? I know we discussed my ludicrous initial fretless spec but really, watching this bass being reconfigured has made me want a fretless as similar to the fretted one above. I have a couple of fingerboard requests but otherwise just as close to a twin as possible.

Heh, I’m a two bass chap, all I want is the above bass that @Jabba_the_gut is finishing for me and a fretless that is as similar looking to this bass as possible. Mind you, I do love the very short headless basses and I must admit the idea of a five str... ...oh.

I have two basses, a fretted and a fretless, I write on both at home and in rehearsals. I play both live. I also have an Ibanez SRC6 that I noodle on but if I wrote on that I’d use it live too.

I’m literally (almost) speechless. I’ve said it before but you build the basses that live in my brain. It’s actually perfect!

If you’ve got £1200 lying around a Grace Designs Felix would do the job, in fact I think @owen still has one for sale on here...

I have the QSC K12.2 and it’s lush, I went for the 12 rather than the 10 just because in my band situation I can use it as a monitor when I play with PA support and as backline when I don’t. Having said this @Bridgehouse seems perfectly happy with his 10”, ha ha, and after all he started all this... ...where are you located @1976fenderhead? You are welcome to try my K12.2 out.

This is so true, the vibe at the time was very much ‘we can all start bands and play like [insert band here]’, which was great but I think the bands that inspired that sense only sounded achievable in comparison to the incredible virtuosity of the prog bands that came before. As you say, when you listen back now, the craft is much more than I certainly realised at the time. Still a good song is a good song and a bad song a bad song, if it’s 8three chords and the truth’ or twenty four times more notes than Bach’s entire output with seven difficult time signature changes.
