1. the furthest I've got from mainstream is a bit of Drum&Bass/Dubstep stuff...which really ain't that far from the norm! I'd love to join a classical orchestra, but even tho I've got pretty much the same range as a cello, none of the local establishments would let me even talk to them...all of 'em brushed me off via email
 2. nice! gotta love them rock poses
 3.
That's brilliant mate! Which band? EDIT: Dur! We Are The Start. I'll check you out.
lol! I recommend you seein us live...I don't wanna big this new band up TOO much, but we've really clicked it's gonna be a good'un! AHH! Howzabout doing a ChatFest? Get a truck/tent or two and do a weekend of epic choonz from the skillset of Basschat? Be a good way of everyone meeting everyone, and having the weekend warriors playing alongside the pros and seeing whats what? Whatcha recon? Probably won't be doable for this Festival Season but could be a plan?

Time for a ciggy, roll over and sleep! funking incredible basses you guys have, I've got BIGTIME gas for a Sadowsky 5er!
 5. No worries, Mr Hijack Thanks for the tips guys, I'd also like to know the answers to Badass' ?tions
 6. Mornin Gals&Gents! So, I've got the HA5500 with the hybrid Solid State/Valve preamp, and I've never really paid it much attn as I couldn't really notice much of a difference when dialling in the valve section...so I just leave both dials at 1 o'clock and have at it. Is there any way to swap out the valve with something a bit ballsier (wow, the spellcheck didn't fire off! Ballsier is a REAL WORD!! )? I'm not expecting a TE V8 or SVT tone, but if you guys think theres a way to get a bit of tube growl then I'm willing to give it a shot Whatcha recon?
 7.
I think it's the first prange syndrome. You want to put off that first serious bit of damage as long as possible to something that looks new, once it's already "damaged" it's no longer an issue.
Thats where I stand...I HATE the first donk, but once I've drawn first blood, then it doesn't matter! I have to say tho, both my 'rays are stunning examples for their ages and i will rip apart the idiot Guitard who knocks it over (cos it will be a Guitard, won't it! )
my girlfriend at the time kept swinging the door open and letting it crash into the bass
Grounds for immediate and total dismissal, intentional or not!
 8. i've bought a few new, a few second hand, and altho the New Bass vibe is shiny and nice...you can't beat picking up a used bass with a bit of a character and finding all the nuances and moods it's got Also, the depreciation from a new Ray @ £1100 and a second hand, mint condition one at £700 is a sting (pardon the pun!)
 9. lol! I wish I had some time at the moment to keep up my theory/reading practice, but my time's been devoted nonstop to learning 35 of The Jam's finest for my new band. O yeah, and also teaching myself how to sing BV's to 'em all too... and I'm halfway thru so far, and the first gig is in 4weeks but it'll be fine...right?
 10. epic mate! Congrats! I've recently found comfort in the arms of a new band thanks to offhandedly lookin in the Bassist Wanted section...gotta love it when a plan comes together
 11. on the 8ve Down it's pretty good till you hit 3rd fret E (aka low G), and once you get lower than E it starts to synth out and go a bit mental Faz, if you wanna pop over to Newbury to try it out and have a cuppa, you're more than welcome! If you like it, £10 works, if not, no probs! PM me if you want to arrange it further!
 12. ykyabw....you can walk to the bar whilst playing, order a pint, play the rest of the songs on the open strings, drink your pint and return to your position wedged in behind the hi-hat without anyone in the crowd or band noticing
when you actually know the difference between instrument cable, and speaker cable.
+1
"the greatest trick the bass player ever pulled was convincing the band he didn't wasn't running the show"
+1 (good film too!)
When you can look around the stage and feel good in the knowledge that you probably have more musical know-how than anyone else there..
+9,634 bloody ridiculous, esp in my old band!
 13.
i have 3, but im too drunk to do maths
1422 + my 8 = 1430
 14. Now, I'm not talking about speccing up a ACG, a Shuker and a Overwater, but purely on aethetics and iconic imagery, what would your dream collection be? Mine would go something like this: Ric 400?, mapleglo with all the chrome mid70's Jazz in tobaccoburst with the chrome (check WoT's beauties) Fender Musicmaster like this Gibson EB-O, red with black pickguard MMSR5 with Birdseye maple neck (already got go team!) Steiny cricketbat of some description (also, already got) A Dingwall 5 A Magnum Ovation with the sliders for the EQ A BC Rich Warlock An Entwistle-esque Buzzard bass A Thunderbird or an Explorer A Chapman Stick That list went on a bit, but those are the basses I'd love to have as examples of great iconic designs
 15.
Love the look of your Musicmaster... I played one years ago and it was great!
+1! Epic bass, definately part of my dream collection!
 16. it's all sorted, it was a combination of duff cable and sketchy battery...balls-out full power from about 0.0182 of a second after plugging in
 17. good tune mate

 20.
Brilliant, good luck with it mate. Cobblers to work, get your mind on more important matters. The main thing is to try and enjoy it, and more to the point, LOOK like you're enjoying it, because if the band like you and your vibe, they're more likely to take you on over some miserable git who is technically brillant. HAVE FUN !!
lol! very true! I just got a gig with a band who, outta the dozen potential bassist, were left with a guy who knew all the songs but the band didn't quite gel with, or me, who needed to work on a few tunes, but makes a damn good cuppa tea! A good brew gets your far
 21. Morning gents! A bit of background: I'm a pretty percussive fingerstyle player, I like to add muted notes and tap the strings with my right hand to get a bit more groove, or to drive a beat. When I was in my covers band and original band it was fine as I had a bottom-heavy sound so the taps and thumps came out sounding like a kickdrum. Now I've joined a band where I'm doing all Jam tunes, I've tweaked the eq to get a more middly, Foxton-esque tone and the taps and thumps are coming out like nasty clipped bangs...but I don't want to change my technique. I'm guessing the problem is the strings hitting the bare poles of my p'up and giving too much of a blast of signal, would either a pup-cover or new soapbar pup help this? Do I need a decent compressor? Any other ideas? Cheers phil
