1.
More I should think, 6 or so should suitably irritate everyone.
Nice!
2.
Out for delivery - how I love those words.
Sweet!
3. Just the one thread this time or more to come?
4. £10 + p&p for a basschat member. If not will stick on Ebay tomorrow or Friday for £13 + post. Cheers Joe
5. Very, very rarely a US model Lakland seems to come up on ebay.com, of course the prices can be close to that of a new Skyline over here but with the way things are going with the £ at present as well as shipping, taxes etc it might not work out similar on price in the end. I've only played Skylines before but they were beautiful instruments, seem a bargain resale wise as well so perhaps look for a second hand one??
6. Some interesting responses! Luckily I've never really needed a set up done that couldn't be carried out at home, eg. a tweak of the truss rod or lowering of the action etc. How much can a pro set up influence an instrument though?
7.
For example, I think the standard Mexican Fender Jazz and Precisions are all pretty much the same standard build and quality. However, to person A, they are fine and a good solid instrument. To person B, they are dull, bland, cheap and nothing special.
Yeah can appreciate that, I was really impressed with my Mexi Fender because at the time of buying it I'd been playing a Vintage starter bass for almost a year so yeah it did seem amazing compared. However I tried a couple others that day & the one I bought I felt had the edge so to me there was a difference between the instruments. I've also tried friends Mexi Fenders before & have had varying opinions on them as well though.
8. Points made in a few recent threads plus first hand experience etc has led me to ask a question that has always been at the back of my mind... Why is there such inconsistency in the quality of Mexican built Fenders?! We must all have come across one at some point or another. I'm well aware that probably every company mass producing instruments will occasionally make a runt that then manages to slip through the net of quality control but it seems that Fender manage to churn out quite a few bodged examples. So just interested if anyone knows why this is?? Did have a quick search but couldn't find anything specific. Joe
9.
and no P**S taking im a new bass player and only started playing 18 months ago at the age of 43, see you can teach an old dog new tricks.
Won't get that here mate that's for sure! Heard lots of good stuff about these new Squires so probably worth checking them out, you're right they are part of Fender. As for the Mexican basses nothing wrong with them, I had a Mexi jazz that was a little gem. What is your budget?
10. Seems to be quite a few threads where someone asks a question, the seller then just goes in to the thread & leaves BUMP & goes off again without answering it.
11.
Thanks for the help and thankyou to everyone else, I think I'm gonna go for it . Yes I would consider second hand aslong as it really was a deal that was too good to refuse, but the main problem is the guarantees on second hand goods, how do you get around it?
With Ebay etc that is a risk you take of course. A lot of members can be trusted here though. I've done quite a few dealings in my time here.
12. If they were free then sure! Although IMO compared to DR's (haven't tried Warwicks) they'd seem a bit of a let down.
13. Dropping it under Ebay prices, that's a saving of 2 whole £s! £13 + p&p (surely not more than a £) Will put on Ebay soon if no one wants them.
14.
Can't afford the Ibanez now after taking a proper look at finances etc. if I need a new amp, so on bassmerchant I've found a Warwick Rockbass Streamer STD 5 with double bucks for £245, in almond sunburst too, which I haven't been able to find on a rockbass streamer til now. I know you're recommending to look for 2nd hand, but when it's the bass itself for me its personal however sad that sounds! Would the bass I've chosen do a job in metal and indie?
Fair enough then mate but don't think buying a bass that someone else has owned before you means it won't have any sentimental value to yourself. Would you never consider second hand, even if it was a blinding deal? Just out of interest!! I used my Rockbass primarily for the music course I did at college & we were playing a variety of genres etc, did fine for me! Go have a play in a local shop, see what you think.
15. Where are the photos? Looks fraudulent to me.
16.
Also is that way you treat all new members!! I hope not! Or it will get a bit boring around here with the same members that drive away new ones! I like this place but I think its a bit out of order how you guys have just ripped into this new guy without a thought. This is his thread to sell his gear not a thread for you to rip newbies!
You don't pay to advertise here, so why is there a reason/need to state no time wasters? It's a forum isn't it, not some form of Ebay. Nothing meant personal at the end of the day though mate. Anyway Thom yeah good luck with your sale, that is a striking bass.
17.
Might sound abit snobbish but I don't really fancy having a second hand bass, wouldn't be that bothered about an amp though. What makes do you recommend? It seems like all the good makes seem to try and rip you off
Hmm you could really miss out on a potentially good deal if you rule out buying second hand, there are a few bargains to be had in this economic climate. Most gear I've owned has been second hand, this is a great place to look as well. As for an amp: Ashdown? Althought seems to be a case of love & hate with people.
18. That Ibanez seems to always get great reviews. I had a Rockbass 5'er which was great but as Josh has said when you try an actual Warwick it will blow it out of the water. Although with things how they are at present you might be able to pick one up 2nd hand for your budget? LH might be a problem of course though. As for that amp mate personally I've never really been impressed with Behringer. Perhaps again have a look for something second hand for more bang for your buck?
19. Cheers guys will be going for the Fender 1s this time. About £13.99 in total from soundslive.co.uk Am interested in the Ken Smith ones also, might try them next time I order a few sets of slinkys for my SR5 from America.
20.
This is a bass forum, we waste time talking about each others' basses
Really? I thought we signed up to advertise Ebay links that don't work & to of course TALK IN CAPITALS. Now stop wasting the man's time ffs with your bass related chatter!
21.
Any good? http://www.fender.co.uk/products//search.p...rtno=0738250006. I have used them through bridge [BadAss II], not through body. 4's only mind, I don't know if there's a 5 set...
Cool! Are they nice & bright? Forgot to mention is a 4 string & is through body stringing.
22. Hi guys having problems getting hold of tapered strings to fit my jazz bass. Had a look at some threads on the subject, eg: http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=...&hl=tapered but only really recommends brands. Don't know much about the likes of Labella etc. I'd like some bright strings that will last a while so pref not Rotosounds. Wanted to put DR's on the bass when I got it but it doesn't seem they do tapered. So can anyone recommend me some, a specific set perhaps which would do some good!? Been wanting to restring this bass since I got it in Dec, had 2 different sets from GAK which I was told would fit but haven't! Cheers Joe
23. Hi guys got some strings for my jazz bass but they aren't tapered so don't fit. I got some slinkys free when I got my jazz bass but they didn't fit either so I trecked over to Brighton to change them for these, they are all they had in stock & the guy said he thought they were tapered. I obviously can't get the money back as I didn't buy them & I'm not going to be back over in Brighton for quite a while so if anyone wants them let me know! I think they are these: 350 Stainless Steel Bass Strings But I will check when I get home. They are £22.95 in GAK. I'd like £13 + p&p if anyone is interested! Cheers Joe
