1.
I've got a little Rumble that I use for bass as well as guitar. The gain & overdrive are actually hot enough to pull off pinch harmonics. I think if the speaker blew I'd just buy a better Eminence driver for it. Right now I'm realizing why I should have kept the original packaging
that sucks mate. in the end i went to guitarguitar and got myself a markbass head and hartke 4 x 10 cab for under £500. beat that!!
2. Are Rumble amps any good ? I need to replace my Ashdown 250w 4 x 10 combo (not sure of the model) and am thinking one of these as they are lightweight and sound like they might be good for a metal band
3. I recently flew my Fender jazz to Geneva for A gig. Put it through oversize baggage in its hard case wrapped in gaffa and had no problems. It was easier than I thought it'd be
4. I play in a Metallica tribute - its an honour to play Master of Puppets all the way through : )
5. https://soundcloud.com/user-527010999 hiya please take a listen and i'll join the basschatters later : )
6. https://soundcloud.com/user-527010999/suxiety New song! Easily the best thing i've done so any listens and compliments/disses appreciated!!
7. 2 great venues have shut down in Nottingham this week.
8. thanks man. ive since got a new drum unit so that should fix the drums and help with the mix. the synth part is there simply because i couldnt think of anything else!!
9. Kanye West is a talentless piece of s**t. The end.
10. I've put another song up! https://soundcloud.c...follow-you-down
11. I used to be addicted to the therapy? Wall Of Mouths forum as they were/are my favourite band. I met lots of the fellow users in 'real life' and it was a great community. In the end though I felt like I was spending too much time posting and reading crap for the sake of it like I was addicted so I left. No regrets but now the only social media I can't escape is facebook!
12. I used to do it many years ago. I played all the high passages and the guitarist covered the low end with simple chords and it sounded pretty good.
13. I believe the Mike Dirnt bass has sold very well. He's the bassist from Green Day btw
14. Thanks Dad - and for the proper link !!! I might remix and pull the low out of the kick - it was a nightmare trying to mix these songs, the bass guitar low end had to come right out to get everything else to sit right but to compensate with kick muddies up the rhythm track. Its a work in progress but thank you for the kind words!
15. I'd appreciate it if anyone had a look at my soundcloud page - www.soundcloud.com/user-527010999. All bass music!
16.
PITA. I always gently explain to anybody who wants to use y gear, that they aren't insured to use it. If they persist, they are told they can use it if they sign my form and make a refundable deposit of £500 cash. Get a bit of abuse, but they only pester me once.
Ha thats great - I'll try that next time!
17. If I hear another band cover the same goddamn songs I'm going to lose my m ind! There's tons of great songs out there, why o why do bands keep playing Basket Case and Freebird at every gig??
18.
Anyway, new discovery for me, but I heard "Clatter" over the weekend and was very impressed. A 2 piece band, just bass & drums, check out "Tree of Secrets" on You Tube. http://www.clatter.com.
Yeah they're really good! nice find
19.
I would use an overdriven treble/mid heavy sound (this will smooth out the peaks without making it sound tame), blended with a clean low/mid sound to fill the mix out. Maybe add some light chorus and/or flanger to give it more texture.. but there are many approaches that could work!
Brilliant, thanks! I remember Cop Shoot Cop, wow! thats going back
20.
Bloody autocorrect. That'll be Freebass, not Freemans
Ooh I'll have a listen to that - sounds right up my street. Cheers!
21. I have to be honest I like what I like, hopefully that doesn't mean I'm ignorant to other types of music, it just means I don't get enjoyment out of jazz bass solo music so I listen to what I do like. Having said that, I'm really interested in the Jaco movie and I hope it turns me onto his music a bit more.
22.
HIM were pretty appalling, though I think the worst was the last time I saw Marylin Manson at a festival, Download '09 I think; just plain awful.
I saw that and yes, it was abysmal. Mine was Smashing Pumpkins just before they split at NEC so about '99 - 2000. They started off with a long acoustic set of their slow boring songs that nobody knew then proceeded to play a slow dull set that omitted the hits. I guess thats where they're heads were at at that time which is fair enough but when you're playing to a huge crowd surely you should do a few pleasers?
23. Hi all! I have been experimenting in my 'studio' writing songs that are all bass led - no guitars at all. As you can imagine, this brings up all kinds of trouble, I'm at the mixing stage and nothing 'sits' right. I thought since a lot of bands tune their guitars so low these days I may as well just use bass! So anyway, any studio boffs out there have any recommendations as to what frequencies I should cut/boost to give the tracks some depth. It sounds good on my monitors but a lot of home speakers don't have good bass response, so I just wondered if anyone knew of any other bands that use just bass/drums vocals format, and if there is a general rule of thumb when it comes to mixing the bass so it's upfront but not booming? The only band I know of that works like this is DFA 1979 but I'm not mad on the distortion! Ta, love n stuff Bassjon
