  1. Okay but this thread is about relics, not road worn through decades. Mine was made of Japanese parts, I understood from the bass doc
  2. Bass doc p in the “relic refuge” thread. Never tweaked it, never needed to
  3. I went to a car paint display in Halfords, browsed for colour then simply ordered the colour I wanted from a nitro can supplier on eBay using the paint code
  4. I tried one and honestly didn’t notice any difference in sound. It was marginally easier to use but that didn’t Justify the outlay and time
  5. Some of you folks @JohnDaBass @Harry K might like my new thread in general called “relic refuge” tell us more about how you did it.
  6. If you’re offended by relics, don’t read any further and don’t post any negative comments. if you wouldn’t have one, or don’t think they look good; you’re entitled to your opinion and I won’t try and change your mind. if you have one, or are planning one, post your ideas and pictures here. here’s mine I used the back of a kitchen knife to roll the fretboard edges, a bradle to do the rsndom dinks and the same knife back to do the edges. I was careful to think about end grain. Bare wood was sponged with tea. I used a green dish sponge to take the gloss off the paint. I thought about the strap rub points. I did nothing with metal parts. No belt sanders were harmed
  7. No - sorry. Wasn’t suggesting it was fake or anything, it just looked a bit slender compared to normal
  8. I’ve not seen one yet, tbh and I’m not that picky
  9. Is it my eyesight at fault or is the headstock slightly smaller than normal ?
  10. Ich liebe das total I totally f ucking love it. This is mine - I’ve not done a relic before
  11. [blush] If you put a thin wind of ptfe on the shaft, drilled out the knob and then put a dot of silicon in it, it would conform, grip and also be removable
  12. Drill them out, use ptfe or use some silicone sealant to get the Splines right @ikay
  13. Why not just wind some PTFE tape around the shaft ? ** ** I’ve paid good money for this ...
  14. That’s a bit unusual
  15. Are the pups the same size (exactly)?
  16. Good call
  17. Hard metal, not cheese metal or death metal
  18. Those look like the ones I got (packaging v similar) . They were usable
  19. Nothing wrong with that
  20. Suggest you look up Kate Davis and also Post Modern jukebox - in one vid they have two guys playing a double handed bass solo on just one bass. It’s the one with three girls singing in glam dresses
  21. It’s not called “the dusty end” for nothing....
  22. A Japanese 62ri jazz that I bought from the late oldgit. Also a natural 75 ri jap jazz scored for just 300£ on eBay because stupid scheduled it to finish at 2am
  23. Yes get metal ones - best for playing metal
  24. That’s glossary 1.0, ready made, right there. Good work mister
