  1. Love an early start to the weekend! Would love to have this if I could justify another - peerless rackmount valve pre and at an excellent price IMO! An excellent seller too - I need to stop looking - bump
  2. A thing of beauty and wonder! Sold mine to buy a Millennia when I realised (following an extended and expensive search) that I prefer SS. If valve pres are your thing, this and the Noble are the two to consider IMO.
  3. Looking forward to the weight on this - my '75 was around 11lbs - it was err...solid
  4. oops, from looking more closely at the logo type, this is probably more likely to be late '80s or early '90s
  5. Very nice - what's the serial number (this looks to be from 1985/6) and what happened to the black Status logo on the retainer cover? Is this a blue tint in the graphite finish? It might be useful to include details of cosmetic condition too. I don't remember seeing many of these with markers in the front of the board - original? Finally, where is the bass located? Gook luck - an unusual and impressive bass!
  6. The celluloid nitrate tort guard has arrived from SIMS - very fast turnaround and an excellent job of producing a guard with perfect fit. This was a custom job and I was required to provide the original plate as a template - the original was returned with the new guard. The quality is excellent - there's a fairly clear difference when comparing modern plastic and celluloid side-by-side. Much greater depth and complexity in the colour of the latter - an almost 3D effect. The guard has a 30 degree bevel and looks much more authentic on the CS '59. It wasn't cheap at over £90 but was worth the effort and looks sublime. The original was OK but the CN is a massive improvement. Ironically, now the bass has a new plate, I may sell. I bought the CS for a group of gigs that needed an older style Fender. The gigs are done and the bass is much less useful to me (though lovely to have around, especially in its current livery)
  7. Absolutely lovely - these are fantastic instruments! The problem with the bags really does need to be addressed. I managed to remove marks on my blue matt finish with very careful application of nail varnish remover (try it on a concealed part of the finish first!) Worked very well when applied with cotton pads. I now wrap the neck in a polishing cloth before using the neck retaining strap. I'd take this but I'm not a five-player either - bump!
  8. What a really, lovely, unfussy and classic bass - I know very little of GMR but will find out more - in one image (front of headstock), there's a bass behind the sale instrument - another GMR? Bump - this is the first bass that has caught my attention for a while
  9. Absolutely love this bass but realistically more than I can spend too Love scrumpymike's mod too - would love something like this for an Alembic Brown Bass if anybody has far better design and fabrication skills than myself! Bump - rare and desirable
  10. The plate is now on order from SIMS - I'll get some images up when it arrives - thanks all for the suggestions and help!
  11. Hi Gary, lovely tone. I'm assuming that the top cab in the image is the one for sale (bottom is the extension?) and that the dolly fits to the top cab. Is this correct? Cheers.
  12. Try a large Hiscox bass case - there's one in the ads at £50 at the moment. They'll fit a Ripper so you should be ok
  13. beautiful basses - incredibly light and playable - and ergonomically superb. I'm looking forward to seeing this one (and hoping it's a 32" with bendwell and 16.5 spacing!)
  14. Hi all, thanks for the advice - I've been working away so no decisions yet. Cheers, L
  15. If you're considering investing a major wedge, the Spector Shorty is likely to be of interest - dark punch and superbly designed and playable. If you're considering parting with an obscene wedge, an Alembic brown bass punches like little else. Balance is weird but construction and tone are incomparable
  16. Ahh, maybe - think I bought them on bc ages ago but can't remember. Thank you! Any other opinions? Cheers!
  17. Hi all, can anybody assist with identification of strings in the image - they're DBE on a Status - light gauge and feel like nickel but could be SS. The silks are purple-blue. Lovely strings indeed - possibly Status hot wires but I didn't think these were silked? Any opinions gratefully received
  18. Gentlemen, thanks very much for this information - very useful indeed! I live fairly close to Manchester and have heard good things about Jack. I've also seen some of Sims work - amazing finishes. Very good advice, I'll pick this up - cheers!
  19. Hi all, I have a 60 'CS P with a nice plate but it's just not quite right. Does anybody know of a source of excellent quality celluloid type scratchplates (with that lovely early '60s look)? I've had a Spitfire in the past and they're beautiful but massively expensive (£200+). I'd rather avoid the spitfire route if I can find something of near quality at a reasonable price. Thanks in advance for any advice
  20. Almost identical to my old CS - beautiful! Incredible price IMO
  21. I've played loads and owned two or three (a Mk2 and Mk3 at least - ridiculous that I can't remember). They're a bass that I've always wanted to love, then when I get one, I don't. I used to play a lot of the Pro models (I lived near the distributor) and remember a pronounced v profile to the neck - I liked it a lot, many years ago, maybe not so much now. Possibly my technique, but I manage to make Wals sound much thinner than they sound in my memory.
  22. I use an Amp One - the AER range is totally different to any other combo that I've used - tone, power, dynamics and depth are astounding - fantastic price IMO!
  23. Louder, better looking, better tone, and lighter than an SVT (all IMO of course). When I walk into a venue and see one of these, I'm usually in for a treat. I'm fortunate to own a very high-end D but it will never sound like one of these
