The Short Scale Bass Appreciation Society!
King Tut replied to Baloney Balderdash's topic in Bass Guitars
I must admit to not getting on with the skinny neck on my Squier CV Mustang. The PJ and my old Musicmaster are just a tad wider which feels more comftabubble for me! I’ll be sticking the CV up for sale shortly. -
I will always start with neck relief. I remember my Flea Jazz bass arriving brand new with an action you could drive a bus under. The Truss Rod was completely unwound and i was a bit panicked that there was something wrong with it. However, it wasn’t broken, just hadn’t been set up and the neck straightened out fine. I prefer the tiniest bit of relief (flat on my Ricks) and aim for 2mm at the 12th on the E with a bit less on the G. This is an aspiration though and not always achievable. Having said that, I do get a bit of clatter and while often frowned on, in the music i mainly play its ok. What really bugs me is when i get a bass with the nut cut too high (Making it harder to play near the nut) as I’m not confident to cut one in case i take too much off (long live Warwick Adjust a nuts!). A good tip i picked up was once you’ve made an adjustment, play the bass in the position you’r gonna play it (ie vertical) rather than lying on its back on a bench. A little at a time! Last night I was fettling my Sire. And i kept getting a weird sound on the D string. Took me a few minutes to realise it was the clip on tuner rattling on a Mack=hind head!! To the OP - its not rocket science but can be a bit daunting if you’re worried about damaging your investment. Might be an idea to pick up a cheapie to practice on?

It’s still here waiting for you! -
Ironic being that I’m nearly eleven years sober!

For many years I was a train driver which i put down as my main employment. I got cover for business as occasionally id need to use the car at work for convenience. I've recently retired so can't really use that one anymore. I'm a bit of a worrier. The thought of being involved in an accident where another party needs lifetime medical care or suchlike is what worries me. If the insurance didn't pay out I'd be bankrupted. Just not worth it - if only for my mental health and not having to worry!

I tried AXA. They wouldnt insure me as a Musician - Pop Group, but got a good quote as Musician - Amatuer. I don’t really make a living at it so could I realistically go for amateur, playing festivals and butlins rock weekenders?
-
Can anyone recommend a company that will give me a reasonable quote if I state my employment as a musician? I rarely use my car for gigs but terrified that if I had an accident when I WAS using it for a gig I’d find I’m not covered.

I think @Lozz196 may have some advice for you! I reckon this post would be better off in the effects section! -
Hope that’s not the ‘best before’ date!

Markbass CMD 121P combo. Loud enough for stuff?

I found that on its own, it wasn’t really man enough - even with PA support. It might work if you could get it up close to your ears. With an additional cab though, it’s killer! -

Friday night I was depping with a covers band I used to be a member. A private party at a hotel in Clapham, just outside Bedford. Just before I arrived I got a text from the singer saying her hubby (guitar and PA) had just turned up at Luton. She’d texted him the postcode to their son’s cricket match on Sunday. To make things worse the A6 was shut due to an accident. We managed to start on time and a had a good gig. Alls well that ends well!

I loved it recently when the bass player of our support band complimented me on my tone. Bass aside, it was a Line6 G30 radio into a Zoom B3n into a Bugera BV1001M into a Nemesis 4x10 that I bought off here for £80 and refinished!

I'm halfway through and really enjoying it. I'm pretty sure I spotted a young Lemmy stroll by in the scene where they're loading out of The Marquee!

Jim Lea from Slade was pretty tasty as well!

Welcome fella. My daughter went to Trent Uni and had a whale of a time there. What a lovely vibrant city you live in!
