1. Gold hardware (on anything other than pearl white) Sunburst finishes in general oh... and the ESP LTD F-series body shape specifically, seriously? The B series look great, why spoil them by sawing chunks out here and there
 2. TC Electronic BH250. Works a charm.
 3. Interesting thanks. That was a good read. I don't know much about seo and brand related stuff (I'm a back end developer and sysadmin professionally) but I've always understood that hyphens were important for accessibility. I didn't realise Google penalised them.
 4.
It's a shame 'sex' is in there, but the middle one scans better. Hyphens are a no-no in domain names these days. They're a bit early 2000's.
Citation please.
 5. This is absolutely brilliant. I was working along to the video and it's made me feel better already. I think this should be pinned. Such a useful resource.
 6.
Im not as clear cut as everyone on the idea of being a bassist as such, there are bands I see regularly where the bass player is also a guitarist in an other band, those bassists are often better players than the full time bassists in plenty of other bands. If you are playing bass you are a bassist, when you are playing guitar you are a guitarist, if you play drums you are ....(insert your own joke)..a drummer, the only difference is your own ability on each which has no effect on other peoples ability does it? I can play a little bit of drums and I mean a little bit but there will be a spoilt brat collecting his pearl export from a shop today who has never played a beat, by the rules of basschat he is a drummer and im a bassist on our primary instruments but who is the better drummer at the moment?
I agree with most of this, I play guitar and bass, and I sing a little, but in my mind what other instruments I play is irrelevant in that situation. If I'm in a band playing bass and they've hired/chosen me to play bass, then I would like to think that they respect my ability as a bassist. And there is definitely a difference between telling someone what to play and giving constructive advice. I'd always absorb advice from other musicians. But dictators just make playing a soulless, unenjoyable experience for me.
 7.
Does anyone else have a guitarist in their band who reckons they could play bass if they wanted and insists on telling you what to play and how to play it? Or is it just me? I need to know before I deck mine.....
Used to. He even went so far as to buy a new bass amp 'for the band' to help 'improve my tone' I walked, and don't regret it.
 8.
Enter Sandman just been played. Quality.
Most overrated song ever...
 9.
Lots of menopausal media/banking/insurance blokes up that Farnham way, many of whom aspire to start blues bands with other menopausal media/banking/insurance blokes. Sometimes there are 'Project Managers'.
I LOL'd and I work for a tech co in London...
 10.
I played a gig with D-L-B's band (Alpha Male Tea Party) but didn't realise that he was on BC until afterwards. Excellent band, excellent bassist. Nice outfit as well.
Hah! They showed up in my 'Recommended Radio' stream on Last.fm the other day, while I was at work. Top band.
 11. Lillies & Remains - Moralist S.S. The bass just makes me want to dance at my desk. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5X6aE6qjYNM
 12.
It looks a lot bigger that the other amps you were considering.
yeah, definitely true. It is however ~£130 cheaper than the GK and the TC, and money can be very persuasive (to buy new anyway) I still think I'm going to try and grab something second hand though. I'd rather have better quality, slightly older kit than cheaply made, new kit. I think it'll be more satisfying to play through
 13.
Actually, I think it's Fugly but beauty is in the eye of the beholder
Never a truer word spoken
 14.
Here's mine:
omfg that's beautiful!
 15.
Unfortunately people who have no problem with their gear tend not to post about it.
I used to work as a developer for an online reviews engine and price comparison site, and this totally holds true. People only ever post reviews when they've had an absolute disaster or when they've got cognitive dissonance and are looking for positive reinforcement of a purchasing decision. The 95% of people who buy a thing, enjoy it and just get on with using it don't write about it on the internet IME.
 16. Congratulations Glad you're having an ace time.
 17.
I would suggest playing a load of them & buying the one that sounds & feels right for you, regardless how the branding/made in sticker.
Absolutely this.
 18.
i have had an SR305 and still own an SR700. Based on that, personally I don't think the SR300 series are as good and I feel it is well worth going to at least the SR500. Do love the SR series though.
I loved my sr500. Really regret selling it.
 19. I can't comment on P-basses as I haven't really played many, but I recently spent a few days trying loads of different Jazz basses. I ended up with a Squire VM Jazz, and honestly - if you've only got a few hundred quid they are excellent bang for buck. They play like a bass that's easily worth double the money IMO. I couldn't tell it apart from some of the MIM Fenders I tried (which might say more about me...) and I'd advise broadening your search out to some of the higher end Squier's if you're on a budget. Depends on how you'd feel about not having that big 'F' decal on your headstock
 20. So, I'm on the hunt for a reasonable quality class-D head for not very much money and the regular names that I keep running into are the TC BH250, the GK MB200 and that ilk, and they look reasonable and pretty cool. And then I find this: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Behringer-ULTRABASS-BXD3000H-Guitar-Amplifier/dp/B008O516JM/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1407759919&sr=8-1&keywords=ultrabass so, a 2 channel, 7 band EQ, 300 Watt class-d head for a touch over a hundred quid. Seems to be exactly what I'm after but that price looks way too good to be true! I don't know much about Behringer, reading around tells me they're all made in China and have occasional quality control issues, but not a lot else. Does the combined wisdom of Basschat have any opinions about this stuff, is it worth it? ta.
 21. lol - i figured it would be something like that Thanks.
 22. What does it mean? I keep seeing it everywhere
 23. I bought one of those exact models last week. Natural Maple 70's VM jazz. Absolutely loving it, great build quality, and a really nice neck, especially for a five. I reckon it's a bargain, and more than a match for some of the higher end MIM/MIJ Fenders that I tried while shopping. If it got nicked. I'd buy it again, without a second though.
 24. After this thread I finally got off my arse and made my way down to Wunjos. Spoke to Laurence and Tom. Both ultra professional, super friendly and totally accommodating of the fact that I've not played for years and kept asking stupid questions. I tried every 5 (and a few 4's for comparison) that I could get my hands and settled on a Squier VM 70's Jazz V. Laurence did me a super good deal, even though their ticket price was already cheaper than everywhere else I've seen, online or off (even Thomann), he knocked another tenner off and threw in a gig bag and strap. And 2 years of free setups and workshop time. He even kept it out the back for me until today so I could go home and mull over it for a bit and sort out some cash - even though I hadn't paid any deposit at all. Anyway, long story short I went back this lunchtime and am now a super happy Wunjo's customer for life, and I'm now the proud owner of this little beauty for 285 of her majesty's finest pounds EDIT: Whoops, looks like I raised this thread from the dead. Meant to post in the more recent Wunjos thread! oh well, principles the same!
