Epiphone Thunderbird A bit out of left-field this one. Always loved the look of them and the sound the Kings Of Leon guy gets with his using flats. Seen a good deal on a Korean one with hardcase
I used to have one of these and I hated it. Looked amazing, but so heavy and really struggled playing for long periods of time. The Neck seems to have magnetic attraction to the floor or something, it feels like your left arm really gets a work out fretting and stopping it dive-bombing at the same time. It was a long time ago too but IIRC the string spacing felt super wide and the neck is thick, although take that with a pinch of salt as I played Ibanez SR's mostly...
2. Here's me. A few years ago now. In our rehearsal space. And then a year or so later (different band), we were playing in a church.
3.
Its safe to say (rule of thumb) all valve heads need a load or you will blow them ( there's a separate thread somewhere, I think from last week about this) but you wouldn't be travelling by train with a valve head anyway...would you?
Lol no. That would be madness. Not least of which for my back ;-)
4.
Something like a TC Electronic BH250 ticks all the boxes I don't have any experience with them, but am seriously considering getting one as a backup, given the price.
Wow. They do sound perfect! That and the GK Mb200.
5.
Class D heads are the really lightweight ones, as they do the job with lots of clever pulsing and switching, negating the need for heavy transformers.
Got it. Thanks :-)
6. Awesome! Thanks folks that's exactly what I wanted to hear. What's a class D head though? :$
7. In my introduction thread I promised a lot of potentially stupid questions, this is probably one I'm going to start jamming with a few people soon and want to get myself a new amp. I'm looking at getting a head for now rather than a combo. I might have to end up travelling by train with my stuff occasionally so I thought this would be a more sensible light weight option and the practice space we're looking at has cabs they're prepared to let me use. My question is about using it at home for practice as well. I've heard it's unwise to power on valve heads without an attached load, but does that hold true for solid state stuff too? Could I use it at home with headphones or using the line out into my PC? Apologies if this is a dumb question, and also if anyone has any alternative advice - I'm all ears!
8. Nearly had one of these on eBay the other day (on the condition I could try it out first) bud sadly someone beat me to it so I never got to try. Nice looking basses, but I can't find much information about them anywhere, and nowhere near me stocks them. Does anyone here have one and if so, what's the verdict? I'm curious. I've never played a 35" scale before, and a 1.7" nut width seems mighty thin to me - is that normal?
9.
One too few strings, or I'd be all over this...
Likewise. Good luck with the sale.
10.
Anything by snow patrol or coldplay, boring.
Pretty sure it's not just the bass lines that have that problem. Serious snorefests right there!
11. That's great to hear - I work in London and have been planning a lunctime/after work trip to the bass centre to try some things out. Guess I've got no excuse now
12. Think we opened with a cover of this - Easyworld, Other Man. They're from Brighton and our guitarist was a massive fan at the time. Super simple but massively fun. For some reason we could never play this at the right speed, we always used to play it super fast! Nice intro though http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QyXULH_QOLk
13. I really like Kathleen Stubeleck from Circle Takes the Square - now admittedly the band is not to everyone's tastes (they play experimental screamy post-rock stuff), but Kathleen and Jay's rhythm work on their first album 'As the Roots Undo' is the main thing that makes me go back to it.
14. I'm Matt, from Sevenoaks in Kent. I used to play about 6 years ago, but life changes and moving up the country meant I didn't get time to play much anymore and ended up selling my gear after years of neglect. Well I'm back in Kent, and catching up with some old friends and eager to get back into playing again. I'm super rusty (and was never very good to start with) so expect a lot of stupid questions! I used to play an Ibanez sr500, and I'm currently GAS'ing for a 5 string. I play mostly rock, some metal and some more folky ambient stuff (if it had a genre it would probably start with 'post-' Looking forward to getting stuck in again.
