1. 'Remained' is probably more accurate
 2.
I've asked MacDaddy if he's coming. If he is, then he should be able to bring Paul (the Junkyard Dogs have a gig in Barnes that evening).
Excellent! Thanks Jack.
 3. The bass is decent in the first place. The most important things are the neck and balance. If you love the neck that's cool. get some Hipshot tuners, sling a John East J-Retro in, shine up the cheapie satin neck finish with some T-Cut, the bass should then be pretty good. But really, that is not a sensible way to spend and extra 300-odd knicker is it. Get a second hand Fender Japan or USA Jazz, then you can be sure you have quality wood and construction and the neck won't banana in the summer.
 4.
Nice replies folks. Not just me then! BTW, I think it's a shame about the ban on Nige's trousers! I hope he's still allowed to wear the gloves!
They didn't fit with the band's look, and none of them want to wear matching leather pants So I've bought some gold lamé lederhosen for the next gig
 5. Nik, is Paul the Drums coming again this year? If so, I'm happy to contribute guitar duties in the Jam Room.

 7.
You get a drumkit too
Yep. Almost every pub/club small multi-band venue (100-200 punters) gig we play in London there is a house kit, usually a slightly battered Pearl Export or something like that, the sort of kit you get in rehearsal rooms. Drummers only need breakables usually. We often find a couple of guitar combos and a bass combo supplied too. Almost never a keys stand though for some reason. The PAs are usually pretty decent and full range, and there're at least two wedge monitors, some are flyers, some floor, usually a drum sidefill too. Stages are often small but you can fit an eight piece band on most of them. Desks are often old school, but there are usually a good number of channels, a couple we've played have digital desks. Usually have a built in stage DI panel, plenty of Behringer DI boxes, long enough XLR cables, etc. House sound engineers can be hit and miss but they're usually perfectly cool people who know what they're doing. Bands get a free drink in a few venues but not usually. We don't often get paid in Kit's band, but small-time promoters put nights on most days of the week with four to six bands (first couple are usually solo or acoustic), and bands play to build their audience, very little pay to play going on here, but being paid to play is rare. This is really for indie/pop/rock/folk/acoustic/etc venues with youngish bands. Jazz and world music specialist venues are a little different from what I've seen. Are we really f***ing lucky down here then? Certainly appears so.
 8.
I don't think you are. You have already made your mind up that there are no good reasons. But anyway, in my case our PA doesn't have good enough monitors for bass. Sometimes when playing smaller places we don't even bring the monitors, or PA subs, and only have the vocals and keys in the PA, so I need some oomph from my bass amp.
Well no, there are clearly some very good reasons which I had not considered. Yours being one of them. I now feel privileged to be gigging in London where most pub and club venues supply backline and basic drum set, full PA and reasonable monitoring and I now know this is not the case in many parts if the country. This is very useful information to have, so thanks to all of you.
 9.
Give over, Nigel, we're not fooled by this pseudo persona. It's all too easy to recognise your phrasing (although I was almost taken in by the uncommon lack of 'f***ing's in there...). I commend you however, for having, for once, found an interesting topic upon which we may debate freely and without acrimony. Well done... (Please change the avatar back, though, just for nostalgia's sake...)
i can here the sock puppetz on telly in the videos and this is wot i want maffew. wot is the bestest sock pupet for playing the Baschat? 6 strings iz better than a 4 strings becoz more strings is like more action. but sock don't have strings innit it have a hands. i like the orange c*** wiv d black nose but is that better than a grey squeeky bastard? the ones that are wooden ones with no paint on look like they never got made proper but thay for them poncey f***in artists anyways. why is all the complicated strings u don't need all dat sh*t for a puppet? Just have a f***in sock. Swazzle is for cheatz becoz there is only 1 sound on a kazoo. easy innit. the puppet that looks like hippo are for skank, but wot will make me sound like zippy?
 10. Ah, there seems to be the same course starting on July 19th. I'm definitely up for that https://www.coursera...e/improvisation I've just signed up for it! How exciting.
 11.
Lord Of Darkness , you are very perceptive to see that I am one of life's pessemists , but then again , I have had a hard life . Just for the record , I have never accused you of making those kind of remarks about these ladies in question . I actually encouraged you to pursue your lust and am willing to offer practicalk help and advice on how to make your dreams a reality , even if the drummer does in fact turn out to be a bloke . As you rightly say , hot is hot and you need make no excuse for that .. I am just making a wider point about women with basses in general and it was never my intention to imply that you were a culprit in this instance . My apologies to you if that was what I [s]inferred[/s] implied.
12.
I'm certainly not having a go at you , my friend , and I don't think having and expressing a sexual interest in a woman is neccesarilly sexist - it depends on how you express it . My point is just that I can't understand why otherwise fairly plain women with basses send otherwise reasonable folks into a frenzy of lust . That's sexist isn't it ? Oh well , I never claimed to be perfect .
Of course isn't, and neither are any of the permutations. But it's about context.
 13.
Who wouldnt like the job of quim barber? You called the drummer a guy and you slag me off for a better joke
I was going to answer but what's the f***ing point if you can't read and understand what I wrote.
 14.
No, that's more xilddx's territory, lol (He of the cool leather trousers! )
Kit banned me from wearing them I don't blame her!
 15. There should be no distinction at all, we are all bassists, musicians. I don't think I have come across anyone referring to 'the black bassist, Marcus Miller', so why the f*** do some of us feel the need to mention gender? Unless it's to make puerile or lazy comparisons, or to point out that 'she plays really well for a burd' or whatever.
 16.
Thanks Garry, nice of you to say. Hey Nige, I think there is another one starting in about a week - there were a few technical issues and flaws in the course material the first time around so hopefully they've sorted those now. For those interested I scored 100%. If you have the time I think it's worth having a look at, though I found I was spending longer on doing the peer assesments than on my own submissions. It threw up some some interesting concepts along the way but the approach did seem biased toward a scalar approach to improvising - which I don't personally favour - but any opportunity to learn how one of the masters operates should never be turned down, particularly when it's free!
Cheers Steve, and congratulations on your result! Brilliant mate!
 17. Ok, my little stab at light-hearted irony got all f***ed up. I'm sorry. I have obviously come across as a sexist prick, and that wasn't my intention. I detest prejudice and bullying of any sort, some of you already know this. What pisses me off somewhat is that because they are female, blokes on here start talking about how they are 'pure sex', how being a 'quim barber' is their ideal job, etc etc, and get away with that without nary a raised eyebrow. Virtually no-one has said they like Deap Vally's music, but that doesn't matter does it, because they are 'pure sex'. Are they feminists? Probably not, they are not The Slits. They are just another derivative band from LA being exploited by the sexist male-dominated music industry to make a few bob out of them (citation needed). You know, I started a thread asking if BC members felt that playing live was better than sex. I received the most arsey, pathetic prudish PM from a rookie mod (who I've got on with well in the past and even had a jam with) telling me the thread had been killed and NEVER EVER to dare start a thread like that again, Basschat will not tolerate such threads. I even apologised to him (for nothing AFAIC) and didn't even receive the courtesy of a reply. And yet, we have massive cleavage avatars (with some BC members actually PMing the avatar's owners asking who it is! How f***ed up is that?!), sexist remarks, 'she's a right slapper' threads, and sh*t like that. So can someone tell me what the f*** is going on here? Thank you, rant over.
 18.
Sigh. I hate to be the no-fun, PC guy but misgendering is a classic playground bullying tactic. Even if the drummer was trans (which I don't think she is), what of it?
Oi! I'm the no-fun PC guy on here! Stand aside!
 19.
Can you see the difference between saying you don't like a band or don't see their appeal, and just flatly slating them? I'm fine with the former, but tend not to listen to those who do the latter. I would say you drifted over that line, and I suspect you would not respond graciously if someone was to describe your own music in similar terms. DV's guitar is kind of crude and rudimentary, but I think a lot of folk get off on the vocals, drums and sheer energy of the thing. There's nothing wrong with that!
You know I know the difference. I know I drifted over that line, I don't usually, but in this case I did. I am terribly sorry for this moral transgression. I did say the bloke on the drums is pretty good though, so it's not all bad is it.
 20.
I Just put butter on mine, it always comes home. Garry
21.
Anyone here ever microchipped their bass? Is it the future
What would be the point?
 22.
So much hostility on this thread! The album seems to be selling well enough and they're getting higher profile gigs than most of us will ever achieve, so who are you to judge their commercial potential? The idea that something you dislike must have no merit looks a lot like pure snobbery, and I thought better of you than that.
I am free to make any judgements I like, and you are free to judge my judgements. But I judge your judgement that I made any judgements as inaccurate. I expressed idle opinion based on that song and video in the OP, I think it's dull, typical LA shtick. I've checked them out and although I still find it very very dull, I see they have had some promotion and attendant success by getting some exposure and some decent gigs. Check out Savages if you like raw girl power with integrity, I expect a boatload of Siouxsie comparisons though .. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hBNmt7IJ4nE
 23.
I call it making the best use of the available resources! TBH my playing technique is so rudimentary that provided I still had thumbs I could probably play most of the things I wanted with just a single finger on each hand, and simplify the bass lines of the songs I couldn't.
Yeah I was only kidding Mike You're one those people who will make music on anything, the instrument is relatively unimportant compared to the music.
