1.
Yeah, this is really quite something...I wonder if it's a response to the high sale price of one of the original Starcaster bass prototypes at Chicago Music Exchange ($20,000 or so) or the fact that Fano guitars have done their version of a Starcaster Bass; http://www.fanoguita...defactoGF4.html It looks like a Mexican or even one of the Modern Player series. I'm in, Hope it's a 34" though, think the original prototypes were a 32" scale.
That's one of the most sick-making headstocks I've ever seen, even worse than the Ibanez Roadstar ..
 2. You can see the brushed gold effect better in this one ..
 3.
I certainly can. Many thanks Nigel for your patience and for (unknowingly) being the guinea pig - first time I've tried this format and a bit of trial and error was involved.
My pleasure mate, and I knew I was being a guinea pig, I naturally disposed to the guinea pig lifestyle Thanks again, Howard.
 4. Horrid has delivered on his word The gold plastic fake anodised PG looks wicked! In most ways I prefer it to the real one on my Strat which has a kind of rosy tint and a matt brushed finish, this plastic one is more gold and although there's a glossy top coat, the brushed finish looks pretty convincing. Horrid had to go round the edge with a gold marker to cover the black plastic backing and it looks damn good. From a few feet away you'd assume it was a metal PG. I love it! Many thanks to The Bass Doc for making it for me, I'm delighted.
 5. That's great to hear, Si! Well done to you and Plux man! x
 6.
Frank's solo set has often included Genesis material in his solo set. I've seen him do the intro to Dancing With The Moonlit Knight, among others (my memory fails me) Also he appears on Steve Hackett's recent "Genesis Revisited 2". He sings on Moonlit Knight again, and as well the last section of Supper's Ready ("As Sure As Eggs Is Eggs (Aching Men's Feet)")
The bugger has never done any when I've seen him, but I know he's been working with Hackett. Cheers man.
 7.
I personally think that Strat is overdone. It looks mingin! I reckon if you want to get an old looking guitar without putting it through years of "abuse", why not just buy a relic'd body from ebay? Theres loads going cheap enough
The patina looks like those horrible old Washburn lava crackle finishes. How the f*** can someone abuse a guitar that much over the years that it ends up in that state? And what's all that slobber and rust in the bridge? Disgusting!
 8.
Francis Dunnerys favourite Genesis recording is "Selling England by the pound" btw.
Thank you I know he saw Musical Box (Genesis Tribute) and said they were as good as the real thing and one of the best shows he'd been to.
 9. I've never been into Genesis much, certainly very little familiarity with the music. I'm listening to Cinema Show now, and it feels like listening to It Bites, who I'm a huge fan of, and who I know were big into Genesis, especially Dunnery. I think you may have got me into Genesis and I shall download Seconds Out shortly. Cheers
 10. Nice little bass line that, I like the harmony, you play it well.
 11. I'll certainly have a read and see if I can understand any of it Looks like a hell of an undertaking! Much respect!
 12.
I know this isn't contributing anything to this thread... but I just don't get relicing. Not the process of doing it - that I understand - but the reason why you'd want to do so leaves me bemused. I guess it's to do with people wanting to appear 'authentic', as though they've been round the block a few times and are seasoned musicians with stories to tell. It just seems like a huge exercise in vanity to me. But heh. It takes all sorts, as my dear old mum would say
I took my new Deluxe USA Strat to a bass bash a couple of years ago and it fell off a chair that I'd stupidly left it on for a minute. Thank god no damage to the neck, but it certainly had a good few body bruises. I decided to relic the body a bit. It was quite fun to do, and it looks alright, certainly doesn't bother me. But I know in my heart it was an empty and callous thing to do to my beautiful guitar, even if I had been careless putting it on a chair. I have to live with knowing that
 13.
I've watched the first three videos now... there's actually some valuable information there, if you're patient. What we have to remember is that Tom Murphy is the go-to person for relic treatments on Les Pauls. He's addressing a bunch of his fans (custom Gibson collectors) who want to know about Tom Murphy... they're not necessarily after a how-to guide (although he does give it... very slowly) Part 1 0:00 Introduction... how he got involved in custom shop 6:00 Mentions faded finishes, first relicing project (blending a repaired section of a guitar with its existing worn finish) 8:00 Says that a razor blade staple of job (first hint of how he works) Part 2 0:00 - Checking on guitars... Stanley razor blade with tape pad to blend repair work with original finish on vintage guitars. Comparison of relicing with antique refinishing. Doesn't actually tell you how to do it. 5:00 Heatgun to age finish... better result for patina than steel wool simulates lacquer losing solvency... shows centre seams, etc. need for care Part 3 0:00 - Back to talking about him and his history, design of Historic Les Paul, demand for distressed look when working as a repairer outside of Gibson... eventual demand for distressed look in a new Gibson... concerns about cheesiness, cost, etc.
I'm sure it's all lovely information, but I've heard it said Gibson have only cared about the finishes for a long time, and build quality and set up has been very poor for many years. The LPs and the Alex Lifeson sig I've played recently were awful.
 14. Oh what a damn shame. He was brilliant. Loved his work with Zappa. A very sad loss to his friends and family, and to music
 15.
This Stingray has only one pickup so all three files (fingers1, fingers2 and slap) are recorded with the same configuration.
Oh of course it does I meant the Fingers 1, sorry. I think I called it neck because it was the first one. Nasty ol sound though It's a fantastic set of comparisons, very interesting to listen to, thanks again.
 16. Great fun! The 77 JB neck pickup did it for me, deep, rich, warm, lovely harmonic resonance, chorusey. The one I found most disgusting was the Stingray neck pickup. That was vile to my ears. Very disappointed with the Fodera and the Sadowsky, lifeless. Surprised by the good sound of the Yam. Brilliant stuff, a great thing to have done. Thank you!
 17.
Brilliant, will be great to meet up & have a chat. See you there! Jennifer
Looking forward
 18. I shall be there. I've played there twice with Kit, it's a really lovely venue! In fact if you need an emergency support act, we come runnin In the diary. See you there
 19.
I'm well chuffed you enjoyed the treat :-) We really tried to go beyond the stock musical approaches... good wasn't sufficient, it had to be the ultimate! A lot of effort, but justified, to my ears. Thanks so much for buying it, it means so much. Jennifer
Just been listening to it, some magic moments going on in every song! Any plans to play London?
 20. f***ing 'ell Jennifer, it's a bit bloody good init !! Great pop songwriting, right up my street. Horse has a wickid voice! Great arrangements and production, performance is flawless, it's superb! Lovely bass tones and lines. I love the unpredictable arrangements, I think I know where a song is going and it doesn't, that's a lovely treat Bought.
 21.
I want to slit my wrists after watching that! What a waste of 8 minutes of my life!
Dreadful. I died after about 50 seconds. Not my own wrists I wanted to cut either. 'I appreciate you appreciating it, those who understand it' ??!! f***ing hell.
 22.
Not on your f***ing nelly mate! Actually, I've trawled the internet looking for online clips & strangely there are none to be found (thank Christ!). I keep meaning to get my video copy transferred to DVD but I've never got round to it. If it ever happens you'll be the first to know.
23.
Nothing bass related, but getting up to play a (bloody terrible) guitar solo with Todd Rundgren at the Forum in 1994 is probably the highlight of my musical life. It was released as a video too so I get to relive just how appalling it was whenever I want.... Also, earlier this year I wrote my first ever song & was fortunate enough to have one of my musical heroes Boo Hewerdine play guitar & sing backing vocals on it, and to have it recorded by (Del Amitri/Breeders/Marillion/many others) producer Mark Freegard.
VIDEO LINK PLEASE!!
 24. I know how much work you're putting in to this mate, I hope you both have a cracking night! Nx
 25.
Good Luck Nige, will try and make next Wednesday.
Weds gig is cancelled mate, just found out, and the Strongroom gig is acoustic and I won't be playing. Cheers mate x
