Had a lovely Kit Richardson gig in Chiswick for Oxjam on Saturday. We got in a slight panic as Kit and Ali (one of our violinists) were victims of London transport and got held up in East London. Kit got there with minutes to spare but as I had set up the drummers breakables while he picked her up from the station we actually went on only 1 minute late. Sadly, Ali only made it in time for the last song. The crowd were lovely! A girl came from Nottingham to see us which is amazing! We got loads of great feedback and sold the two remaining EPs. A bassist from another band seemed rather taken with my chrome Warwick, as was a nice young lady who thought it was a guitar We all got a bit pissed afterwards, it was a really lovely evening It was great to see Happy Jack, Paul the Drums, and bluejay there (thanks so much for coming guys!) bluejay (Sylivia) took some stunning photos (Sylvia, they are superb! Thank you x) http://www.flickr.com//photos/bluejay_my_photos/sets/72157631815168288/show/

Welcome to Basschat Jair-Rohm, good to have you here. My only criticism of your video lessons intro video is that the bass is too loud while you're talking, and there is little information on what one can expect. A short example would be useful. I also think you could make more of your accomplishments as the potential purchaser needs that kind of information. There is not much info about you on the internet either, I would think that with your apparently great accomplishments as a musician you could market yourself more effectively and not sell yourself short by offering to record bass tracks for $5. If you check out how Janek Gwizdala markets himself, that might give you some direction. Best of luck.

Ok more details .. http://www.bushhallmusic.co.uk/live-music/whats-on/eventdetails/18-nov-12-nife-bush-hall/

Use Dunlop 65 lemon oil or something like that. It's important to protect your fingerboard and keep it in good condition. Your painter's linseed is unlikely to be suitable. If you have some beeswax that will do nicely.
I haven't had time to look at and select the best among the whole series of photos I took, but I'll get down to that soon. I also recorded a couple of videos which will be on their way to Nige asap.
Thanks SO much Sylvia! I can't wait to see them!
Aw, thank you Nigel, I'm delighted you like them. You know, it's worth making a bit of a fool of myself by kneeling and/or leaning awkwardly in front of the band in order to get a decent shot, when the results deliver something you are happy with!
I LOVE them! They are the best photos of us by a country mile! The way you got Kit's eyes in the second of the slide show is amazing!
Excellent gig, too short a set that left us wanting more. Slideshow of some highlights: http://www.flickr.co...815168288/show/ First photo:
Sylvia, these are f***ing AMAZING photos!! Not only are they technically excellent, you have a great eye for framing a shot, the last one in the slide show is superb! Thank you ever so much for taking them! Nx

Sean, no worries mate, I think the idea is you pay £15 and get a day's worth of music. But I totally understand your position mate. There's no on the door price AFAIK. The Bush Hall gig should be cool, it's a lovely venue, hang on for that one man. Be lovely to see you both. Cheers x

Shall I sweep the floor with my a*se whilst I play bass?
xilddx replied to tonyclaret's topic in General Discussion
Just read the guys reply.....interesting. I regularly get £150 for playing with an 8 piece band,so he's talking rubbish there. I also regularly learn full sets, including 'starts and stops' in one rehearsal (sometimes none-a quick talk in the dressing room and keeping my ears open can usually do the trick-not even that if there are charts). So,again,he's talking rubbish.
Yeah but you guys can play -
Have a great one tonight all!
D'oh! Gonna miss this one I'm playing Oxjam in Reading in the afternoon, then gotta spend the rest of the day shlepping up to Birmingham for a function. Break a leg! Truckstop
Cheers man, you too!
Nige, what's the story on tickets for this - is the day wristband the only option?
That's right mate, you buy a ticket, swap it for your wristband on the day. That's the only option AFAIK mate.

And Warwick of course.

Refinishing a jazz neck with low friction: what to use?
xilddx replied to Ashwood1985's topic in Repairs and Technical
in faith of the theory that there's no such thing as a silly question: why?
Instrument wood needs protecting from moisture loss (and absorbtion), especially necks as they can become unstable and move around, depending on humidity and temperature. If you do sand to the bare wood you will need to protect it with something, like oil, wax, lacquer, etc. -
I actually used to work in the St. Albans Robert Dyas (Bobby Dies we used to call it)! Yeah, you're all pretty much confirming what I was thinking already (except for Nigel; thanks again for your thoughts ). I've got the rest of my life to work at being a credible musician; what's wrong with selling out a little to make some decent money while I'm young? Thanks everyone! Alex
Alex, I was trying to focus your mind mate f***ing GO FOR IT! WTF are you even thinking about it for! The first option is a massive leg up and you should feel honoured to have that opportunity. Best of luck
-
They both look like pretty horrible options to me. Can't you get a nice job a Robert Dyas or something?

Refinishing a jazz neck with low friction: what to use?
xilddx replied to Ashwood1985's topic in Repairs and Technical
Thanks for the hints mate. What about bri wax?? It was suggested to me before by Martin at the gallery.
I use BriWax on my Warwick necks, light sand, wax, leave to soak and harden, polish off. As for your Fender neck, I have used 800 grade wet and dry to take the gloss off. It's easy to restore the gloss later if you want to. Do NOT sand down to the bare wood. I hear Brillo pads work too but never bothered trying. -
Genius!
Ive been looking at a Warwick bass currently for sale. Thing is, Im a lefty and would need to turn the nut round. It has a plastic nut not a brass one. Can these be unscrewed and switched around?
No, but you can buy lefty nuts from Warwick's online store and they are dead easy to remove and replace.
