1.
First gig with a five string, and no bum notes!
So glad you broke the run of sh*t gigs above mate
2.
Oh for goodness sake folks - this is hardly rocket science. A small piece of effort here would go a long way to making things easier for a lot of us. Thread now almost 2 years old. A simple "yes we will do this in by dd/mmm/yyyy" or "no we can't do this because of technical reason xyz" is all the courtesy we ask for. CB
If it was me helping run and pay for this wonderful forum, I think I would be quite depressed by your post mate.
3. Looks ace! I just can't get on with the headstock I tried a Tyler which I thought was horrid, but a Tom Anderson I tried was like playing Marilyn Monroe's silk stockings The like the one with the white plate best for looks. Cracking finds mate, salute! I have a 2009 USA Fender Deluxe V-Neck Strat which I love. I want to put a Fernandes Sustainer in the neck position though.
4.
Nice one. Thanks Silddx. I thought were being quite critical and then i remembered that we have a song called Its not the bomb... lol The singer has often been compared to REM or J Mascis from Dinosaur Jr in the past. I can kind of see both of those. Cheers again.
No worries mate!
5. Not listened to them all, but 'It's not the Bomb ..' is the best mix of the 6 I heard. Good band, nice and tight, quirky but accessible. Cold Destiny does sound like a bit like REM! It's all good man
6.
I was wondering about EZ drummer. Drums are the part I struggle with most. I already have loads of drum sounds in EmulatorX, DimensionPro and an external MIDI module. Given that the music I work on tends not to use traditional rock/pop drum patterns and fills, is there anything that EZ drummer provides that I might find useful?
I found these short tutorials very useful initially. This is part one of four. They will show you pretty much everything you need to know to make a decision mate. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3G7IdXNkyCc

8.
Ha ha! Indeedy... or as my dear old dad would say, dickheads never differ! [sorry Nige, that isn't meant to be as offensive as it sounds!!] Paul
9. Great composers think alike
10. Time's running on and I'm so busy. I hope I get a chance to do some work on mine. Bilbo, I have no problem with your 6 minute piece, but I guess it's up to charic.
11. Mike, I'm really sorry I can't make this, I have to be elsewhere, manic week for me. Have a great gig man and I hope we can catch up soon mate.
12.
Just came across this old clip that we did for German telly in 1999. One of the few clips of us on the web not recorded with a Smart Phone
I love that song! When I were a nipper of about 15, I used to sing that song while peddling my racing bike around Coventry. Great stuff, Steve, thanks.
13.
I've got a schaller 3D bridge I was thinking of replacing the Gibson bridge with. It's a new bass though so I was going to live with it for a month or so before doing too many "mods" on it. I've also got a Dimarzio Model One I was thinking of replacing the neck pickup with. So, do you think I've knackered the string?
I'd replace the bridge asap. No way I would personally trust that string on a stage. The silk is there to help prevent an unwrap. I'll f*** with a bass to my heart's content, but I treat strings with great respect.
14. I think it's a crap Gibson bridge design. That's what I think That binding is there for a reason and I'd be careful of removing too much mate. Maybe try finding strings that suit the bridge?
15. Hello Leslie and welcome to Basschat. I had a listen to five numbers. TBH this is not at all my kind of listening, but it's all highly professional, very well played and produced, and you play wonderfully. Some ace old school funk on there too that I prefer to the ballads, which are a bit too polite for me. Hats off though, it's very good indeed mate!
16. Whatever gets the best articulation, depends what comes before and after, and where on the neck it is. Usually index/little or index/ring, but use middle/little sometimes too, especially up the top end of the neck.
17. For the noises I have my POD X3 LIVE through which the bass and guitars go, Korg keyboard, EZDrummer software for MIDI drum programming. Hardware is a MacBook Pro / a large widescreen monitor / Focusrite Saffire 24 DSP ADC interface / KRK headphones / Alesis M1 Active 520 monitors. The mic on the MacBook is great for recording handheld percussion, and voice etc. For 'proper' singing I have a cheapie (£50) MXL condenser mic and shockmount. My DAW is Reaper. I have a large bunch of free software signal processing to use in Reaper too, including the free Focusrite compressors and reverbs, delays, modulation, mastering tools, etc. I do everything in Reaper via the Mac keyboard and mouse, I use no control surface. It's all perfectly fine for me this way. I came from using (and thinking I needed) knobs and faders and did not want to learn all this software sh*t. But it was easy, very easy actually. I am only a beginner with Reaper and it is a fully featured DAW like Logic, Pro Tools et al, so I'm only using the basic functions at the moment, but each project I do I learn lots more. I did this with the above kit (I only used the MacBook mic) in a few days, from scratch. Also, the tracks are not EQed, only mixed and effects added http://soundcloud.co...otface-i-ii-iii
18. Yes, it will be good to see Clarky pumping his sperm whale.
19.
I must of missed that Xylem thread Lovely craftsmanship happening in that workshop...I'm a fan!
We've been trying to help him get a few over here.
20. Have a look in the Basschat Affiliates forum mate. His work looks absolutely amazing (and I normally detest such designs and all that wood), there's an ebony capped scroll 5er in there which made me sh*t my pants.
21. An amazing gesture Paul! Amazing. And incredibly kind of you.
22. As promised, I'm there Clarky.
23.
I've just looked at the pics on their website. The neck pocket has some serious finishing issues and the clay dot between the 16th and 17th fret looks like it is crumbling away, apart from that and the abortion of a headstock, it's a mighty fine way to waste money.
f***ing hell, you're right, it's mess isn't it. Covered in sh*t and dust too.
24. I am SO f***ing glad I don't own stock in that company Whoever made the decisions leading to the creation of this bass probably needs to be put out to grass.
25.
Cost = 0p. All done ourselves. Location courtesy of the Griffin public house. Brentford's finest boozer.
I love this video! And the song. Bought the EP on the strength of it.
