1. Check the Markbass prices on Thomann. The NY122 is a nice cab!
2.
Yeah thanks Looked at barefaced.. they might sound great.. But there ugly as hell! xD
I want to like them but personally I cannot bond with the aesthetics.
3.
The Bongo love just grows and grows. This particular instrument is so beautiful to play. I'm genuinely mystified at how many sets of hands it has gone through on both sides of the Atlantic (see the list of owners in my earlier post). Question for regular forum GASers --- Is it normal for basses to get moved around so much? I really don't get it at all. CB
I've learnt my lesson. If I like an instrument I just keep it unless I really have to sell for emergency money. I just keep collecting haha.
4.
I got the offer of a partial refund initially, but decided against it as nobody knew the origins of the head.
Totally understandable and the best option I think.
5. Heck this isn't great is it. I think retailers believe the market is so tough they can sell demo stuff at the same price and you won't notice. Re: Soundslive - email Martin and make sure you request exactly what you want. I hope they sort it for you.
6. I'd love a Classic 5 Natural/Maple. Almost £2000 though ouch!
7. I think if you can grab one at a good price, and it plays well, go for it. That Truss Rod Wheel is brilliant and I'd rather have that than the old design. Re: Figured neck - it is HEAVILY glossed so in reality I doubt it make and stability differences. Some of them do look spectacular. If I was buying one I'd want to see it first and get the right one. A word from a few stores this past few weeks - Musicman prices are going to have a DRAMATIC increase in the UK over the next month, so get in whilst you can.
8. My experience with GuitarGuitar is poor. I have contacted Roger at Sadowsky about the ex-demo basses that were being sold for full whack (they had been hung up for at least 18 months) and the fact they didn't want to let me order something not in stock. The same happened with a few Lakland basses I tried to buy and just got what can only be described as NOS, and the packing was atrocious. The Hartke has been ON DISPLAY and USED. They owe you ALL of your money back, all of it. Don't let them make out you have to pay return postage. It's ex demo with the box, so it need selling upto 25% less than it should be. I suggest asking them to supply a brand new sealed unit, at a discount. If they don't want to play ball, speak to Gareth above and Trading Standards. It is illegal to sell goods that are clearly used (especially with the proper boxes and kit) as new stock. GuitarGuitar are becoming huge, but if they carry on like this, they will lose a lot sales off this forum. I hope they see this thread and apologise. Maybe someone should alert them to it?
9. No response as yet
10. Personally, if you have roadies and flight cases, I wouldn't be buying cabs based on weight. I'd just get an Aguilar DB412 and leave it at that haha!
11. Pm'd
12. Well, hopefully they all are. Last time I contacted Thomann their units were Chinese.
13. Polar Audio are the distributors. They told me all their UK stock is MIA. Soundslive have very low prices on the MB800...as do most stores.
14.
Apparently so.
All manufacturers need to be more upfront I agree.
15.
Do you know if MB800 from Thomann are made in USA?
Don't think so. The UK shipments are though.
16. Specs are a strange one, but weren't Mesa on the bad end of this with the stupidly heavy and expensive 400+ ?
17. Has anyone had chance to A/B these amps? I have seen the prices on Markbass is coming down a bit due to the EURO and I'm tempted to get a LM3 or the TTE500. Don't at all need either but that's life!
18. Thomann are on the ball! http://www.thomann.de/gb/tc_electronic_bh250.htm?feedid=2724
19.
If I understand what's written on the Music Man forum correctly, then the StingRay HH has retained much of the typical SR H sound in its pushiness, despite the bridge humbucker being closer to the bridge than the original H was. Same forum tells me that a Bongo can never imitate an SR and an SR will never do a Bongo. The Sterling is said to be inbetween them. In my noobly experience, the four band eq on the Bongo is especially important for the two mids when choosing character. The bass and treble regulators are just that, and of course important enough in their own right, but still. It's not too difficult to come close to a P sound for example, so whatever the deviation, functionally it will do old Motown. Remember: noob talking. Part of the joy in owning a Bongo is the comfort for the plucking hand. For me personally it's also the nitro neck paint that feels very quick and very secure at the same time. Haven't tried with sweaty fingers though. Plus it's a Bongo fer cryin out loud! Y M Does V
The HH Rays have the bridge H in exactly the same place, same with the Sterlings. But, the Bongo HH places it closer to the bridge. which is kinda why I went for it, to get a different tone. Totally different beasts. The Bongo is much more modern, stupidly powerful, but a Ray is a classic tone.
20. This company continue to impress. That is one ridiculously well packed tiny amp.
21.
All good stuff then. Thanks again. Another question about watts/driving cabs/headroom etc - I currently use a TC Electronic Classic 450, which I like a lot. Volume-wise I have never had to play beyond 11 o'clock into 4ohms so feel I have all the power I need with that kind of head. With regard to driving the cabs with a more powerful amp, would there be any advantages/disadvantages in getting, say, the Shuttle 9.2 model but playing at lower volume setting on the amp, as opposed to a 6.2 which I am sure would be perfectly loud enough for my puroses?
It would just, IME, give you more 'clean' headroom before the clever limiting kicks in and makes it sound like a more traditional tube amp being pushed.
22.
IMO and IME it's a step up, but there's still daylight between it and an amp with a lump'o'iron in it.
Sonically, there might be something in it. But, I've been fiddling with my Orange AD200b and comparing it to the Max 9.2 and Streamliner 900. The heft from the micros is VERY impressive. It'll never obviously be as tubey as a proper tube amp, but its close. I know what you mean though...I just love the fact they are so easy to move! The Orange weighs a lot.
23.
What does the Shuttle .2 bring to the party that the original lacks?
More ommph, better gain on tap, the filter buttons are less extreme (in a good way) and basically an improvement on the tone when you push it hard, (3DPM).
24. I think you've got the list of strong contenders Clarky. I'd go for the Shuttle 9.2 or the MB800...if you don't mind a little larger, the Streamliner 900. IMO and IME the latest Genz gear is a massive step up in Class D micro amps.
25. I WANT MINE TO ARRIVE!!!!
