1. http://basschat.co.u...es-black-grill/ Picked this up from Al last week. Everything as described, and a top gent to boot. Edit: Bonus feature was that he was running an amp that was interested in hearing out as well! Cheers Al.
 2. I use TC HoF in synth rig. Nice, plenty of variety, plus if you have a computer you can create your own custom patches using the TonePrint editor. Strymon or Eventide stuff is awesome but a chunk more expensive.
 3.
What amp/cab were you playing through? If it was a 4x12 I don't think it unreasonable the bass player having an 8x10. If it was a 1x12 then I'd be off the same opinion as you.
4x12. Which is 1/2 the weight and a lot more maneuverable in tight spaces (a person at each end handles them easily). Both are light compared to a big drum-kit's hardware box though.
 4.
Do you guys (& girls) play in bands? I'm all for lightweight but if something's too heavy get someone to help, easy. If someone else from the band won't help, then you're in the wrong band!
I mentioned lugging an SVT 8x10 around up-thread: I was a guitarist in that particular band so the fridge wasn't mine! Other side of the fence at that point.
 5. Nice. I bought a 5er from a chap on here. Great bit of kit. As a daft guitar player I run it with the EQ maxed which gives a great punch!
 6. Omni-directional 5 x 12, speakers facing all directions except down. Maybe throw in a 2k power amp too....!
 7. Yeah, I've not played many basses (newcomer to the bass world) but the 2-band in my MIA Sub 5 is great. Massive amount of punch, it really pushes the preamp but flexible too. It really cuts through live.
 8.
Just a shame we're not playing post avantgarde Swedish Vegetarian grindcore metal.
Bahahaha, +1 for the FurTV reference. I've played multi-genre shows before. They can either be a disaster or a lot of fun, no telling until you get there. Even disasters are funny. An old band I was in was, um, pretty extreme, to the point when the other acts quit the gig while we were sound-checking. That was interesting. Lending gear... I'm fine with lending cabs, OK-ish with my not-too expensive bass head (as long as EQ not touched), but high-value kit is a no-no unless I know you very well. FWIW I'll rather bring a cab that I know sounds good and lend it than borrow something crappy.
 9. Pulling out was the best choice. The promoter was taking the mick there!
 10. [s]Hnnnng. How much incl posting to London? I wish that this came would havecome up in about 3 months![/s] Sorry, not interested any more as have just had to buy a new fridge. GLWS bump!
 11. 8k whistle in one ear, 8.5k in the other, and I have virtually no peripheral hearing/can't hear conversations in loud environments/etc. A result of the 90s where I was going to gigs and clubs multiple times a week... I started wearing plugs around 2001 but stable doors & horses spring to mind. Don't be an idiot like I was, kids! Wear them plugs.
 12. I used UPS recently on recommendation from a UK luthier who regularly ships £2k+ instruments globally with them. I've also used DHL in the past.
 13.
Thanks for all the suggestions, gents. Have checked out the ones I've not heard of and I've found a couple I think I'll try and see at some point. Whitechapel Murders and Dragged into Sunlight in particular. Ps. Yeah, there's a lot of Doom out there!
New album due at some point from DiS, I think. They don't gig too often, though, and gutted that I couldn't make their last London show.
 14.
You might like Anaal Nathrakh who are one of my favourite bands, apocalyptic black metal/grind. The new Behemoth record - The Satanist - is a belter I'd give that a spin, some good bass playing on there too. If you're into doom, Electric Wizard and Conan are spectacular.
Anaal Nathrakh are monsters. Love them. Only slight downside is that their live sound has suffered a bit since making the switch to Orange Dark Terror guitar amps. If you're into complete mayhem I'd also recommend Dragged Into Sunlight. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L0Rf8N_kPCs
On the Doomy side there's Serpent Venom. Their bass player is a proper lovely bloke. http://serpentvenom....ngs-seen-unseen Then, for something a bit harsher, there's Piss Viper. My wife works with the drummer and went to their first ever gig a couple of weeks ago. http://pissviper.bandcamp.com/releases And the wonderfully noisy Oaf. The bass player is Dom Lawson, the music journalist, and another top bloke. http://oafmusic.bandcamp.com I'll mention Beholder, too, the band that Piss Viper were supporting. They're from my old town and I played with their old guitarist, who now produces their albums instead, in my first ever proper band. https://beholderuk.wordpress.com
The UK doom scene is absolutely insane right now. Soooo many good bands. As for Serpent Venom... Yeah, all are good blokes. Nick has just ordered a Barefaced Vintage 6x10 (for those gear geeks amongst us) and is a silly bugger of the highest order.
 15.
I suspect that because bass players are generally quite modest and unassuming, even players that I consider virtuosic would also describe themselves as 'solid'!
Well, that's just very British really! Probably true too.
 16.
Was he support for Stickelback?
The red mullet gave him away.
 17.
Stolen fron Facebook;
A slightly different version: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NE5sEYwF36A
 18.
Why thank you. Great community spirit on BC and very useful advice.
You're welcome! The half of the cheese that landed on laminate flooring was easily removed, the rest, that ended on the carpet, was a nightmare. Protip #2: Bake said fromagery in a bowl or dish, not on a flat oven tray.
 19.
I'm quite partial to Camembert. Does anyone know if it played a part in the cheese wars?
Pro-tip: don't drop a baked Camembert. It makes an absolutely horrible mess on the carpet.
 20.
Ten pages and counting... I'd still have a black one. Black ones sound best
Well, red ones go faster. It's a scientific fact about everything. Anyway, I've never really tried a Rick for any length of time. My brother had a 6 string that he liked, and I have at least 2 friends who are Rick users and manage to sound good live & recorded. Also I'm not sure that the OP knows what "ad hominem" means, it's really quite specific: You're English/an idiot/less than 5 ft in height THEREFORE you're wrong = ad hominem You're wrong, THEREFORE you're an idiot = not ad hom You're an idiot (without reference to argument) = not ad hom Ah well.
 21. We store our backline at the rehearsal studio so yes, plus singer & I keep our pedalboards there. Only person who doesn't is the drummer. He uses a house kit plus his own cymbals/snare/kick pedal.
 22. If it's a gigging band and you're making money out of it it may be worth trying to change it from the inside. If it's not then I'd can it (unless you can see some possible progression in your situation by hanging around). Not sure if my opinion should count as anything because I don't do music for the money. Oh and Chic? Hell, I'm a metal-head primarily and even I think that Chic do it properly!
