Delighted to welcome Luke (aka @Banjo_hobbit) to Basschat and to be able to start a feedback thread for him. I've just bought a pedal off Luke. Speedy delivery, great comms throughout and everything as described. I'd be really happy to deal with Luke again. Cheers, Bas

@stewblackthat sounds awesome! You're clearly a convert to parallel routing and I suspect about to convert a whole bunch of us in the process! Some Soundcloud clips of your set up in parallel vs in series would be great to have as and when you get chance.

Tbf Fender do own a brand that have just released a rather tasty reverse PJ (but active only)... ...and have just replaced the previously pointy headstocks on these basses with something that looks remarkably like a Yammy BB's headstock (seamlessly back on message 😀)
-
Well it's a funny ol' world. You were the person, with your excellent review of your 1025X, which you kindly took the time to pm me about, and subsequent joint trip to the Yammy store where I picked up my vintage white 1025, that weened me of Fender basses (possibly for good) and started my love affair with Yammys a couple of years back; and now you're heading back in the opposite direction. Wheels turn, eh? You'll be wearing flared jeans next.
-
Interesting point about the neck, though, 'cos the flatter / really comfortable to play (particularly on 5ers) / not a baseball bat neck of the Yammys is a feature that a LOT of Yammy fans (me included) love. If a chunkier neck is what you're now preferring, and... ...sounds like you could be heading back to Fender and, based on your comments a few weeks back, forget PJs, you could be going straight to J(ail). 😊

Tbf there are good reasons why Fender are the best selling bass on the planet, and why so many other brands make a good living ripping off their designs. Wouldn't the world be a boring place if everyone had the same taste in basses, genres of music, amps, cabs etc. etc. Plenty of space for us to all enjoy the basses we enjoy. Personally I think my Yammys are just great! And I have no itch at all to buy a Fender. A Spector EuroLX neck through on the other hand... 😄

Mine too. Except I'm not in!!!! Have rearranged my delivery to Friday. Ugh! Know what my weekend is going to be spent doing, in part, already! Or in my case, another thread you've started where I've ended up buying a gear 😁
-
Fixed. Or at least that's how it felt to me 😁
-
I agree with you in part - my 735A was definitely a bit lighter than my BB P35, but actually only comparable to my 1025. A fairer comparison is perhaps between fully passive basses. The wood in the body of the 735A will have been reduced to make way for a larger EQ housing area i.e. more air and less wood, so you might well expect the body to be a bit lighter on that particular model.
-
What a seriously unhelpful thread to be linked into 😂 Now you've got me checking out £3,000 guitars (not to mention Spector basses that I'd managed to ignore for the past few years), Mr Charlie-Tango-Foxtrot! 😈
-
Well my BB P35 is heavier than my BB 1025. Both purely passive. So I'd say "no" based on that very limited sample"!
-
@razor5cl I'd say the key difference between the BB 734A and the older BBs is that the 734A is both active and passive which gives it greater tonal versatility. Body shape etc has been more of a subtle refinement rather than a wholesale change from the Series 2. Most of the earlier models (Series 2, Series 1 and earlier) are either mostly purely passive or a minority that are purely active. The 734A gives you the best of both worlds on that score. Combine that with a capable vol, blend & 3 band EQ and P/J configuration and you have a very capable bass indeed. Here's a demonstration of my old bass(!) being played by @TJ Spicer, which will give you a good feel for its tonal variety and capability:

Nope - and that's really helpful to know thank you. If it can't do parallel, why would you bother having it, other than being able to click on say three pedals in Loop 1 with one stomp rather than needing to engage them all separately with three stomps?
-
Yup that last one, looks just the ticket. Fingers crossed the dimensions work.
-
Nope - matey I guess you hadn't spotted or were not bovvered by the erosion of blocks point, which is actually a real issue? Besides the purpose of this thread is not about the limitations of the HX Stomp or otherwise, but a discussion on parallel vs serial use of pedals - you got any of your pedals in parallel? If so, which ones and what benefit are you finding from doing that?
-
You just need to take a view on whether yours will actually provide any decent protection? Looks worth every penny of what you are paying for it (no, that's not a compliment - lol!) and obviously mine has a pouch for TRS cables...😁
-
Actually used this for my B3n, but suspect it could work a treat for the Stomp too. And within budget! 😊 https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00DUGZFA6/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1

HX Stomp is defo a good suggestion to follow up on. I think the only two downsides to using the HX Stomp for parallel routing are: (i) although it has two FX loops, each loop takes up a 'block' so you're at risk of only having 4 blocks left out of the already limited (some would say) 6 blocks on offer at the outset; (ii) not everyone reading this thread has a Stomp! Just come across this neat piece of kit - circa £55 which will take up minimal board space and allows two effects loops (probably for synth and dirt in my case), which should be plenty to be getting on with for those of us just starting to get into parallel routing.
-
You're getting old and wise eh Cam? 😉 Having also had the 735A, my sense is that if you played a set of Yammy BBs (passively in the case of the 734A/5A) you would find that they all sounded much closer to each other than any of them do to a Fender P

Ah funny - bit Chinese whispers! Reading your post quickly on the my phone the other day, I'd read your comment along the lines of "5imon said 2:1 was a bit low", rather than being a query; at which point it became gospel truth. Lol! Becos Stella is gonna be home board only for me for a while matey, while I get up to speed on it. Believe me, if I can't learn to hear nuances of bass tone from compression when it's just me, there is no way on God's earth I'm going to be able to hear any pedal board compression differences in a full band mix with ear plugs in. But that particular long held viewpoint from me, is not news! But 5imon was right when he was enthusing about the Stella as a great comp to learn on (plus his immediately preceding post back in April). At least I listened to him, for once, on that! And I've got 3 weeks...

Are you sure that is correct dB? My P35 sounds pretty close to my BB1025 and certainly when @dave_bass5 was over we both felt that the 1025 was the slightly 'flatter' of the two and closer to what might be thought of as a traditional P bass sound. And certainly flatter / more P bass-like still is the BB425 which I've previously had and Dave still owns.
-
Thanks fella. Was going to ask you whether the fact that I seem to be marginally preferring a hard knee to a soft knee is just 'in my head' or whether there is actually a good basis for this - maybe something as simple as it being a more clear cut impact, particularly at the low compression ratios I'm using?
-
No, please, do get started! 😀
-
Did you mean "majority"? That sounds great - take it you're a Stoke lad? Agreed - they certainly got a thumbs up from me. Heather Baron-Gracie does like f'king swearing a lot on stage though doesn't she?! Probably trying to cover up the fact that she has a double-barrelled surname and is no longer up the Creek.
-
Fair enough I've been told that Stoke is actually a collection of towns with no city centre who all hate each other...I can see why (the lying toads) would want to say they were from Manchester 😁
