  1. We all know your love for Spectors and it's kinda interesting that both the OP and me have a Spector in our armoury as well as the NE2. Of all my basses I'd say the NE2 took more design cues from Spector (sculpted back, neck through, 3+2 headstock, purely active, seriously meaty low end, 24 very accessible frets) than any other of my basses including my other Yammys. So I'd suspect you'd totally love it if you played 5ers!
  2. Congrats - what a way to start your Yammy journey! Btw - the magic knob does make this one heck of a tonally versatile beast. But as you say, you're not obliged to play with it 😉
  3. Bought a pair of headphones and a wireless Boss WL-20 set off Dave in two separate transactions. Very good prices for gear in tip top condition and both super smooth transactions. Dave is a top bloke - deal with complete confidence.
  4. For the money it's almost a no brainer compared to the competition!
  5. Been pointed out to me that I can use the two inputs "separately" on my Helix HX Effects and set up dedicated EQ patches for EUB and bass, so it looks like I haven't dealt with all my excuses for shelling out £300 on one of these just yet... ...which is all good advice if I didn't subsequently go and sell my HX Effects, lol. Roll on the Hotone Ampero2 Stomp in May / June...
  6. 😁
  7. Bare faced cheek if you ask me
  8. Woah boys, you're missing the C5.
  9. Love that question! I'd say I am married to 5 string electric basses having had an amicable divorce from 4 strings, apart from my EUB and a lone 8 string which is kinda still a 4 string (but with aspirations to be something higher, right?) So I guess it's more of a sultry affair with the EUB and the fact that they are slimline does make them much more attractive 😁 Put more seriously: portability is a key driver for me - I'd never be able to lug around a double bass alongside the PA and my own bass gear. The Eminence being able to pack down into a golf buggy case immediately gets my attention!
  10. Nice board! Interested that you have both the C4 and Spectrum?
  11. Yup - that's supposed to be the key benefit of the reverse P ie a tighter low end (and a mellower top). Shame Yammy don't offer that option more widely. Although I guess with a judicious use of EQ and / or HPF you should be able to get a chunk of the way there, particularly in reducing any boominess.
  12. Nice tone. I wonder what signal chain he was putting it through? Lots of clarity, sustain and presence. I'd be half tempted to guess a VTDI. And then tone dialled down for the more mellow parts? Whereas from the sound and brief hazy clip at around 2.50 this would appear to be classic P bass? (And very tasty all the same!)
  13. OMG - he's using a music stand - haha! There's clearly hope for us mere mortals yet 😁 Btw @gobasserk well done for nailing his tone so well! Kinda amused he's running out of fretboard - my only gripe with the Yamaha BB range (except the NE2) is that they are 21 frets and not 24. Just spotted that the Warwick Thumb played by one of my bass heroes (Jack Bruce RIP) has 26 very accessible frets - that's insane!

    ZOOM G6

Yeah - choice and competition always a good thing and great to see two of my fav Jap companies, Yamaha and Zoom, keeping each other on their toes! I think Baloney-D's point that this is a head to head competitor for the Line 6 POD Go is spot on. But I certainly wouldn't rule out the POD Go, just yet, if that is your alternative John. So far Helix has outgunned Zoom on chip processing power and consequently the quality of a number of resultant effects. So what sort of a chip set upgrade Zoom have provided with this new model I think could be key.

    ZOOM G6

Makes sense. And additional DSP will flow through to improved fx elsewhere. But I thought I read that they were using the same generic fx models available in the rest of the range (which would also make sense from a development / immediate use perspective)?

    ZOOM G6

Yup - I'd avoid the Line 6 Pod Go for exactly the same reason (lack of parallel routing) in the £300+ price bracket and get a used HX Effects instead. But that's 'cos I particularly value the parallel routing option. I wonder if they have an upgraded chip set in the G6 vs the Zoom B1-4 / B3N? Additional DSP is always welcome! I presume that must be the case given the additional capability e.g. IR loading.

    ZOOM G6

Sorry I missed the word "used" in my earlier post - I'll correct to avoid confusion!

    ZOOM G6

From the gear page - pricing seems to be ¥45,000, which would be around £329 mark in the UK. Much as I love Zoom multis, as this doesn't seem to provide parallel routing a used HX Effects or HX Stomp, which both do and come up pretty regularly used for similar money, would get still my vote at this price point. Not tempted to upgrade from my budget Zoom B1-4 just yet!
  19. Some really helpful tips above - thanks guys! That's a really neat summary! In terms of a decent pre-amp - got my eye on the recently released EBS Stanley Clarke (sister thread running concurrently, if you've not seen already) - seems to be getting rave reactions from fellow BC'ers, and it does look superb. As @Doddy mentions the recommended EUBs are in the £2k+ range, so it seems like that I'd need to go from the £400 mark for my Stagg EUB to a 'very decent' quality EUB. I guess I may end up with one of the ones mentioned eventually - and the portability of the Eminence is very attractive if that packs down into a golf buggy case! Just wondering if there is an intermediate rung on the ladder at around the £1k mark that would still be significant improvement in quality / sound over the Stagg?
  20. Although I've heard it mentioned, I've not really used that particular wizzardy - talk me through where / what you would be using that for? Will you be reviewing it with a double bass and/or EUB as well as a standard electric fretless bass with piezzo pups? That would be very useful.
  21. Why? 😊
  22. Love the fact that it has variable HPF - that would be great in itself, but as an alternative it offers a variable frequency notch filter to deal with specific frequency resonance: you don't get to see that on your average EQ pedal. These are available on both channels - so you could have classic HPF on Channel A and notch filter on Channel B (or vice versa). And all that is in addition to semi-para mids. Very very neat! Parallel loop for the rest of your pedal board if you're using, and then it seems to me to offer two separate outputs - one to go into your amp plus an additional DI out (with speaker sim) to simultaneously(?) run straight to the PA. Oh and the inputs can be blended A+B as well as being alternative A OR B. And it's all analogue which should virtually eliminate both latency and any potential comb filtering that you could encounter with digital pedals when combining two channels. For good measure it doubles up as a headphone amp. Running out of reasons not to get one of these as and when I start gigging my EUB alongside my electric!
  23. Satin black B stock 735A for £631 inc. P&P including a Yammy gig bag - so around £559 for the bass itself, £60(?) for the gig bag and £12 delivery: Yamaha 735a Satin Black B stock for sale, UK eu, on offer, Bass Direct warwick, Birmingham, London, Manchester, USA

  25. Hmmm...that ability alone does make this a very attractive option, and EBS have a great rep for their preamps.
