  1. Another +1 for a budget multifx to get to grips with what pedals you're likely to want, before forking out ££'s for specific dedicated pedals. Personally I'd go for something recent such as the Zoom B1-4 over the out of production models, as these have the latest chipsets and are still being supported by Zoom with new software updates. Added to that you'll actually be able to pick one up new for less than e.g. a used B3. They also double up as a really useful tuner, home practice drum machine, EQ pedal and headphone amp, so really are amazing value. Here's mine pretending to be a mini rig...
  2. GR Aerotech cabs are new kids on the block. They've taken the power / weight ratio for cabs to another level using carbon fibre & other wood substitute materials. Be useful to get a steer on what budget you have in mind - neither BF or GR are budget ranges.
  3. Cheers @binky_bass - enjoyed those. Very much 'classical' style - noticed you were focussing on the top 6 strings mainly and not so much on the bottom two strings. Just those particular pieces or is that pretty typical? [PS sorry for the thread hijack - normal service about favourite straps will be resumed shortly].
  4. +1 for Omega on the Alpha Omega +1 for RAT sucking out low end like a vampire dirt pedal! Clean blend with an LS2 can help. But otherwise, it's great. I do also like the B7K sim on my Zoom B1-4. But I've bass boosted it to counter the low end suck and the end result is pretty tasty.
  5. Wow!!! And I'm not talking about the bass straps! 😁 Any YT clips of you playing those 8, 9 or 10 string basses?
  6. That's a BIG number vocally to pull off and for the record I think your vocalist is pretty darned good!
  7. Been trying to get my ahead around the Ibby pre-amp centre frequencies and looking at the manual they provide this. The mid centre freq curves follow the stated centre EQ frequencies as suggested. The treble curve seems to peak at around 8.5kHz and reasonable to treat that as the treble centre EQ The bass EQ seems a little harder to fathom, but seems to me to that there is little meaningful boost or cut above/below around 80Hz and that represents a shelf rather than a centre f (if I've got my terminology correct).
  8. So before you string me up, this DOESN'T beat the original. Nothing does! Buuuuuut, I love these guys and hats off to them for daring to try to pull this off with a smile.
  9. Ah ok - fair enough. I see we have just both also discovered the TB thread at the same time! Looks like I'm going need to make a trip to Bass Direct (a UK specialist retailer, in case you're not familiar) who stock AT cabs - hopefully they will have some AT cabs in stock without my needing to place a pre-order - and take my BF BB2 up with me at the same time, so I can A/B them. I've already persuaded a fellow BC'er to come along for the ride
  10. Useful little thread on TB started a short while back. Seems like Ed Friedland is a bit of a fan. GR Bass review | Page 3 | TalkBass.com
  11. Ok this is kinda cheating 'cos it's actually an original in the style of a cover! But this duo has nailed the early Beatles song style down to a T!
  12. This is a pretty good explanatory video. No sound samples. But the thinking behind the cab sounds fantastic.
  13. Agreed on the 4ohm being my preferred option here too. You do realise there are NO decent YT clips of the new Aerotech line up, and certainly none of it being compared to a BF cab. So if you could A/B your two cabs with a decent mic set up and played through exactly the same amp set flat that would be really awesome.
  14. Was the Aguilar also set flat too?
  15. The only fly in the ointment is that 1025s don't seem to come up that often these days and tend to get snapped up pretty quickly (providing they've not been price gouged - I saw one on eBay for £900+ which was very "hopeful"!). And if you find one in vintage white, definitely hold onto it 😉 Having said that, I'd be surprised if you noticed too much difference between the current 435 range and the previous series 1025, so that gives you another very good option. And frankly the more budget 235 owners on here are full of praise for their basses.
  16. Fair points, however I was responding as simply as possible to the specific query raised by a fellow Yammy owner, with an explanation of how it's been measured for easy comparison (which was measured unfretted). I'll leave him to make use of it, or otherwise.
  17. My (approx i.e. within 0.5mm) was measured above the fret, as opposed to above the fretboard.
  18. Great piece of kit from a very good seller! GLWTS
  19. Ok that's a little bit of a one sided 'fight' then. 😁 I'd love to hear how it matches up against its bigger brother the BB2 which is the same weight as your AT212. Trouble is Bass Direct who stock the GR kit in the UK, don't stock Barefaced so it's going to be tricky to hear them side by side. So I guess your comparison of the two is going to be the best we are likely to get for a while. Have you gone for the 8ohm or 4ohm version?
  20. Excellent thanks. Barefaced are considered to be pretty uncoloured, so the GR really is getting into "FRFR" territory then! Which model BF cab do you have? PS btw this thread is NOT helping at all in reducing my GR AT212 GAS 😁
  21. I'd love to hear how GRBass AT212slim stacks up against the Barefaced cab you have? They're pretty much the same weight as my BF BB2 but there's a 4ohm version of the GR, unlike the BB2, which would unleash the headroom in a lot of amps including my DG M900 and as much as I love my 1x12s, there's something even better about a 2x12! Stated f resp of 35Hz to 22kHz looks very good too.
  22. What's not clear is if the DI out is being taken pre or post EQ? If it's post DI in both cases and the EQ settings are as per the pics i.e. significant mid cut on the GR and significant mid boost on the Aggie it's apples vs pears and @stevie's comments would then very much be expected.
  23. Haha - yes you've definitely done your bit to keep the bass market afloat over these passed 12 months 😁 I suspect this is going to vary a fair bit. Mine's at approx. 3.5mm above the 21st fret on the A string of my BB1025.
  24. Fantastic. I had this album of their's on repeat during my youth. IMO it's still one of the very best albums of all...
  25. Wow! Great job! Are you guys originals or covers? (Apologies if that is something I should already know!) Any uploaded links to your crew playing live you can share?
