  1. It's how it came when I bought it (it is a 15 y/o bass and wear & tear does happen, right?). But the seller kindly knocked the cost of a new Glock pre off his asking price, so it's been budgeted for.
  2. Loved the male vocals on this, Dave. Good job on the recording too!
  3. 👍😊 I think encouraging each other with positive news is only going to help in terms of building confidence. One of my BC buddies who's a fantastic chap and a pro bass player (300+ gigs PA before lockdown) has messaged me to say he has 3 bookings for the end of May, which is brilliant.
  4. Err not quite, but fair enough in terms of confusion! The Carvin BB has a Carvin preamp that bore some similarities to a TonePump, but it's not (e.g. it's a 3 band for a start). I'd be fine with keeping it but it's fucked in terms of the 3 band EQ, so it's going to get replaced with a Glock EQ. That particularly journey on swapping out the Carvin pre for a Glock is reasonable well-trodden and been apparently done with some success.
  5. Calling @alexclaber...we've got another mad product idea for you, if you're interested?!
  6. Tell you what if Alex C, or someone equally competent who we trusted to be totally on top of what they're doing, came out with something like this, I suspect it would get a lot of attention. And knowing Alex or the GR crew it could well end up being sub 40 lbs.
  7. Spector TonePump - sourcing: Spotted this really useful post on another thread and am reposting it here so it's not lost! Need to add VAT & shipping on top.
  8. I can't get passed the NJ acronym. Not sure you're going to be too happy with that Noisyjon? 😁
  9. Did make me smile that when you stipulated a bass for around £500, in typical BC fashion we managed to recommend one for £1,650! Sometimes sticking to a budget is not our strongest point 😁
  10. Pulling you onto this thread for your Yammy query, if I may. I think @Ricky Rioli is probably your man!
  11. That's cheating. A bit like saving money buying used. No metalwork course it is... And the real saving is gonna be from not splurging out on additional pedals that will inevitably result as a consequence of having a larger pedal board with more space on it, while I get my wood-working and metalwork skills up to speed 😁
  12. Hah! And going on a metalwork course, to get a little hardcase put together. I'll take that under advisement, cheers 😁
  13. @mm85 First of all, welcome to BC! If you've got a budget of £1,200 and are thinking of getting a Spector this is the place to be!
  14. Hah, I was about to say a Spector but you're already there ahead of me. You should definitely head over to Spector thread, where you'll get plenty of good advice (TLDR: used Spector Euro LX4) Mods please do the honours and close this thread 😁
  15. PS if you've got a BB 434 (pics please!) I'm guessing you won't find very much difference tonally to the 1024 so I personally wouldn't look to get both. In the same way my having a 1025 means I've not really been tempted to get a 435. But I think you have both a 434 and 1024 now? So you'll be able to share your thoughts on that. I've posted a fair bit on my thoughts about the 735A vs the 1025 vs P35, so I think I've said my bit on that score! @javi_bassist is loving his 734A and 735A
  16. I think you're over complicating it. At the Dog & Duck on a Saturday night, the audience wants to have a decent night out with their mates. At a work party, the office team wants to let their hair down (without getting fired) and have a good time. At a wedding, the guests want to have a good time. Simples, right? The job of a covers / function / party band is to deliver that for their audiences and hopefully have a really fun night out themselves, whilst usually getting paid for the privilege. Painting by numbers would mean striving for a perfect copy. But you're never going to do a "perfect" cover unless you have all the original band members with original gear and playing in their prime. In fact a lot of original bands don't always do great "covers" of their own material from 30 years back...😁
  17. Can't believe I missed this post first time around! Completely agree with Reggaebass's post earlier on the other slap bass thread today: Listening through a decent set of speakers / headphones the tone on opening bass riff to me has a P bass sweetness, even though obviously she's not playing a P. I guess I shouldn't be too surprised it's a Sadowsky. And her 30 second bass solo at 3.27 both sounds great and is technically superb. Damn they're good!
  18. Awww shame about the P34 and I totally sympathise about your reluctance to drill holes into the head of a high end bass, particularly when you're not 100% certain she'll be staying. Well you gave it your best shot (can't say fairer than that!) and you've got a very decent recording done to remember her by. Parting can be such sweet sorrow.
  19. So did she stay or did she go?! 😊 You've also finally put to bed the burning question on many of our lips of "is a Yammy BB good for metal?" AC/DC - Whole Lotta Rosie (Band cover) - Share Your Music - Basschat Great job, btw!
  20. Well I've been doing my usual procrastinating before taking the jump, partly to delay the inevitable pedal buying splurge that follows, like night the day, getting a larger pedal board. Particularly if I end up keeping one of my smaller boards! My revelation for the day is that a HB Spaceship 60 with hard case is pretty much the same size as a Pedaltrain Classic 1 with 'tour' case (the HB 60 board is, if anything, slightly bigger). But the HB board is HALF the price (even with VAT added and transport costs etc)!!! What am I missing? With the saving I can get a HB Iso-12 Pro which has 12 isolated outputs, slim format to fit underneath the board, and puts out 3 Amps. I've had really good experience, so far, with its little sibling the Iso-5 Pro, which is sitting snugly under my current small board.
  21. Ah the old originals vs covers band debate. Nope it's not a waste of talent to play other people's stuff. Following your logic there would never be another classical music concert. Live music done well which connects audiences and musicians is a good thing, full stop.
  22. Well we need to think about how a following is built on YT and with it multi-million views. That's not done "generally", but one specific track at a time. So with this cover, she's chosen an internationally popular and current track which in itself is going to garner a lot of interest; built up a following with her many preceding and well done bass covers, done an excellent job and presented it very well. (FWIW sufficiently good to be the source material for more than one very competent BCer looking to learn this number).
  23. Certainly be good to test that hypothesis. Here's one YT clip by her that is well regarded (and even includes some tasteful slap to keep it vaguely on topic 😉). Over to you to find a few bass players from the "hundreds and hundreds" of any shape or size who have recorded this one track and played it equally well.
  24. I needed to give that a 😂 too, but was restricted to one reaction! I suspect the 235 won't be a million miles from the 1025, and it's had a very good write up from the few owners on the Yammy BB thread who have both the 235 and one of the higher end models - good shout.
  25. For your budget I'd recommend a used Yamaha BB1025 or used Sire P7v5 Mk2, both 18mm string spacing. And given the quality and popularity of these you shouldn't have too much problem moving them on without much, if any, loss. You may actually prefer a flatter neck on a 5 as being more comfortable, given you're starting with a wider neck in the first place. Hopefully you're not too attached to your 4 strings 😁
