  1. Hi Alain - I've not had either combo you're looking at although I've had a couple of the larger MB combos, but I was interested in your query - the Vox does look neat! And I have to confess having a soft spot for Vox as my very first amp, which was both very loud and incredibly heavy, was a Vox AC30 in the days when I pretended to be a rock guitarist. I've not found too much discussion / direct comparison, but this short thread had a few posts: Markbass Micromark 801 vs Vox VX50-BA | TalkBass.com
  2. Lively covers bands wanted for East London paid gigs. If this first gig goes well then there is likely to be an opportunity for a residency with 6 to 8 gigs PA. The following regular (2 x 1 hour) slots are available: Thu 2 piece - start 8.30pm end 11pm Fri 2/3 piece - 8.30/9pm end 11/11.30pm Sat 3/4 piece - 9pm to 11.30pm Fees......2 piece £220 Fees......3 piece £300 Fees......4 piece £350 You will need to provide PA & backline. Please tell me about relevant gigging experience, whereabouts you are based and a YT clip(s) of live performance and/or showreel.
  3. Yes, clearly!! Haha! I suspect it's why ped reintroduced this feature (which we had an even more detailed version of before the last system upgrade a few years back), as he's worried about the mis-spent middle-age-dom of so many potential Jamersons who have turned down the possibility of fretboard mastery for keyboard mastery. 😁 Although, if we do the math, my total only works out at an average of less than 1 post a day on here since the thread was started. But if you want to see what a truly mis-spent middle age looks like then look no further than: I guess I've now had my quota on here for the day...🙂
  4. Ok, so we now know that the top 4 culprits (amongst many!) who have kept this thread very alive and kicking over the past 4 years have been...😁 TOP POSTERS IN THIS TOPIC 259 942 351 1330
  5. Love to get a second opinion on the Octava, if you do. I currently feel like a lone voice shouting at the void on that one 😁
  6. Very interesting - thanks for sharing that! I guess that explains why I had multiple enquiries yesterday with an eBay buyer buying the unit outright without even trying to haggle! I totally agree low-end suck is a real downside to bass distortions, particularly RAT based circuits and our band mates do want us to underpin the low-end, it's what we're there for! I'm sticking by the Pigtronix Octava as being a really good alternative to the Ripper though. It's seen off several bass drive units including the excellent Damnation Audio MBD-2. Obviously in terms of influence Royal Blood vs Al Krow, there's only ever going to be one outcome... 🤣🤣 🤣
  7. You still taking bets? 😁
  8. Not sure that the 2 or 2.67 ohms options are ones that many punters in TE's price bracket will be looking to make use of? There will of course be some (e.g. with two 4 ohm cabs), but I'm guessing for most of us a 4 or 8ohm load is what we're dealing with. But the TE 1200 putting 600W through a BF SC or, in my case, a BF BB2 or Fearless F112 means that those rigs can now give you a fantastic compact rig solution with all the headroom you are likely to ever need in situations where there is no FOH or PA support. Colour me very interested! Anyone have any ideas on price point? If it's Peavey gear I would be expecting it to be pretty competitive (i.e. not at the Bergantino / Mesa end of the scale).
  9. He's at least confirmed that it's 1200W into 4 ohms (and not 2 ohms). That is MONSTER!!! This could very easily become the new reggae bass poster child!
  10. Hey buddy - this literally just sold half an hour ago on fleaBay for the asking price. They are a great bit of kit and a few of my BC buddies will be able to confirm that I've been dithering about whether to sell it or not! Depending on the sound you're after I can also heartily recommend checking out a Pigtronix Octava - which plays really nicely with other pedals as well as having a great core tone.
  11. I do love the fact that Yamaha have laminate neck construction even in their (fantastic) work horse bases.
  12. Yup that Gotoh bridge definitely adds something. No question! Looking like it could become "the standard" for bridge upgrades on 424s. Btw - I thought you were a die hard 414 fan, have you switched allegiance to the the 2s?
  13. It would be: You're going to absolutely love bass, so don't leave it till your late 40s before you start playing; A Yammy BB will be just as good as a swanky Sandberg; Buy quality used from folk you can trust on BC and you won't lose a fortune when you come to sell; Those same lovely folk on BC will, however, give you GAS so you'll end up buying a ton of kit you don't really need. But as it won't cost you much more than postage to move it on, you'll have a lot of fun along the way; Avoid compressor threads. Oh and wot @Osiris said...apart from the bit about short scale and the bit about opium as that's never really been my scene 😁
  14. Absolutely NOT too negative and thanks for sharing. Facts are facts.

    Boss SY-1

Just added a dual expression pedal (Boss EV-30) to my set-up for use with a couple of my synth pedals. Works a treat with the SY-1 - in addition to the really useful hold and release on the pedal itself, you have the ability to control the arpeggiator speed without needing to tweak by hand.
  16. Hey Gary, i saw you just gave this a bump. Is it still available, I thought you had sold it to @bassfan a couple of weeks ago, but I might have got that wrong?
  17. Did they score? Or, more precisely, what musical score were the band using?
  18. I think the position is now clear that Import VAT does apply to private sales from the EU, so maybe worth including a sticky in the sales forums? I'm sure @Steve Browning, as our resident VAT expert, could come up with some suitable generic wording just to remind folk that there will be a further 20% VAT to pay on the cost of the good plus shipping on second hand private sales.
  19. Just bought a pedal from the US and now have to pay VAT and Clearance Fee. Always painful when it's an "extra"! I guess the key point to remember is the "Import VAT" at 20% is due on both the cost of the goods PLUS the shipping costs and there is £12 clearance fee on top. I'm presuming there will be a direct read-across of the above for imports from the EU as well now.
  20. It would have so made much more sense if Sterling and Grealish had taken the last two penalties.
  21. I think the point is that the rest of the planet is currently watching what is happening here rather than vice versa as we're ahead of the game on vaccine roll out for the vulnerable groups. Europe is 6 to 8 weeks behind us. This is how vaccines are making a difference: 50,000 covid cases now, that level of cases was last seen back in Jan. Current daily deaths around 40, that number was north of 1,000 back in Jan i.e. fatalities have been reduced by over 95% because of the vaccine. That's a huge impact and it's what is underpinning Mickey's ability, to quite, rightly to make this statement:
  22. Gotcha. Well you have a lot sympathy from us for your home situation on this side of the channel, and stupidity is stupidity and needs calling out. I've had similar feelings of desperation when the virus was ripping through other parts of the globe where my relatives have been stuck with far worse health care than we are so fortunate to have in the West. This is one cruel and unforgiving virus.
  23. Why is the actual experience of the NL the least bit relevant to the UK? Any more than the actual experience of Japan or Sweden? Different approaches. I know it sticks in the throat of many, but the UK has been right at the forefront, globally, of both getting vaccines developed and also rolled out. This is absolutely the key, no question, to getting things back to normal. There's a reason Macron is now trying to force his more reluctant citizens to get jabbed. Wearing masks in crowded places has gotta generally be sensible, however. Not debating that one bit. Obviously not such a good idea for vocalists!
  24. Lol! How much are you willing to bet that we close down after 2 weeks? We can give the money to a charity supported by BC.
  25. +1 Fortunately the incidence of sexually transmitted diseases seems to be pretty low in Brum due to folk not liking the accent. But it does beg the age old, but important, question: Is the Brummie accent good for metal?
