Superstition intro... only the first 36 seconds, would have been nice if it was a bit longer but as I was playing I had no say in this.. anyway enjoy.. Mal
Great tune, i used to play this in a funk band and used to use an envelope filter or sometimes synth effect on the bass (even both at times)...was a really funky take on the tune in a Bootsy esq kind of way!

I don't usually do the big ups but someone buy this bass! I accuired a JO5 in a 3 way trade and i have to say it's quite possibly the best bass i've ever player (and i've played a few from taking the Mrs on vacations to music shops )-those Lindy's are superb...good luck with the sale, someone out there will be one happy bunny!

I found jammin to a Funkadelic album helped me improvise...not that i'm great at it but i can jam-most of the time i wasn't bothering in learning the Funkadelic line note for note but rather something that i can groove along with the track. As George Clinton says "Free you mind and your ass will follow"....having said that most of the open mic nights i've been to involves self indulgence funkin around E pentatonic ...give me the dub anyday -
Nice shirt Lee - what is it about bass players, always the most stylish person in the band
Cheers buddy, covered two genre's in one dress which was appropriate as i played in a dub band & later a funk band at the same festival....so naturally i chose a Marley T-Shirt with a Bootsy shirt over the top ......and star shaped sunglasses with a rasta hat! (Funky Kingston?) Thank god for Cornish hedonism thats all i can say, however i must learn how to play one day and not get soooo wrecked and wear freaky clothes...still its a nice bass innit !

ooooh you beauty-i have nearly exactly the same bass + 1 string, 5 string JO in Lake placid blue...probably the best 5 string bass i've ever played-a lifer for sure me thinks - i often have impure thoughts about selling/trading my USA 75RI Fender Jazz 4 to get either a JO 4 or The DJ4...hmmmm-must repent! Good luck with JO buddy

FONK, well its love innit? My mates girlfriend said "Stick Wesley's Fourplay on and take me from behind"....now that was a groove - and no it wasn't me playing her..just a funky comment i heard from the player (of the my mates girlfriend that is). But seriously the 90's Funkateers like James Taylor Quartet, Corduroy & Mothers Earth are worth a check out for modern uptakes, but yup funkadelic is a religion of some kind that i'm into... i think it was like Dennis Chambers said something like "I've been playing for years and i'm still learning it". Its a slippery slope though (maybe my mates girlfriend when Fourplay had finished)-i think i started Funk before i even touched an instrument...or a lady for that. I was sick at a party in the early hours just after i heard 'Bad Tune' by Earth Wind & Fire-that was funky with no mess! Then before i knew it i was listening to Miles 'On the Corner' backwards with a bunch of aliens-the Mothership had landed in my pants around that time too-BOOYAKA!. I love funk, but i'm not a great player of it - i'm a simple groover and struggle on the slap groove technical stuff...but ya gotta love being stuck in any groove. Has anyone ever been late for work being 'stuck in a groove' when you pick up your axe before leaving???....how do you explain that to the bossman? One nation under a groove, baba! Heres me & the Circus funkin out last week! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MyHL51Ov8hQ

If your budget permits i highly recommend trying the Markbass Jeff Berlin Combo. I use one with an extension 15" cab (with tweeter) and have never looked back. The Markbass 15"'s IMO sound quite different to most 15"s that i have tried (Ampeg/Fender/EBS/Trace etc) - they seem to articulate the highs well and holds a good funk sound down, i mainly play reggae though through the Markbass and have to say i feel its also perfect for that dub vibe too. I was always a 10" speaker guy having used a 6x10 as my main rig with an Eden head...said i'd never use a combo again and wouldn't be a 15"' man...well that kinda went out the window! Try a Berlin if you get chance buddy, Good luck with your search.

Our keyboardist definitely has too much time on his hands, bless him The bass work is nothing special, just lots of low B stuff and a Buddha like persona! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mHAhpyhBsBo Gotta love homemade low budget stuff!

I said i would never get a combo again and that i'd always stick with 10" speakers (Come from an Eden wT800 & 6x10")....so that went out the window - Now a Markbass Jeff Berlin Combo & Markbass 15" Ext cab! it's kind of like the perfect rig for a reggae sound with the speaker emulator almost full on-however i've been dabbling in my fonk again and i am quite impressed with 15"'s for a slap sound....pretty clean! A tube input would be nice...but to be honest its warm, light, i like the yellow and its phat! Gwan blaze de Markbass fyah - Bit like Robbie Shakespeare - Irie
