1. I played my Jap Fender this evening at a funky jam...really enjoyed. 57 Reissue (98) All black with Maple neck...niceness!
2. Our keyboardist definitely has too much time on his hands, bless him The bass work is nothing special, just lots of low B stuff and a Buddha like persona! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mHAhpyhBsBo Gotta love homemade low budget stuff!
3. I said i would never get a combo again and that i'd always stick with 10" speakers (Come from an Eden wT800 & 6x10")....so that went out the window - Now a Markbass Jeff Berlin Combo & Markbass 15" Ext cab! it's kind of like the perfect rig for a reggae sound with the speaker emulator almost full on-however i've been dabbling in my fonk again and i am quite impressed with 15"'s for a slap sound....pretty clean! A tube input would be nice...but to be honest its warm, light, i like the yellow and its phat! Gwan blaze de Markbass fyah - Bit like Robbie Shakespeare - Irie
4. Lots of bites but no takers...will be on the evilbay this weekend if no takers this week. Cheers
5.
What would be the damage to ship to ireland or would that be included in the 500 notes aswell??
Hi mate, i reckon shipping to Ireland could be done for the full £500. It's still up for grabs as i have had a buyer pull out due to unforeseen circs for him.
6. I've got GAS for a S'ray fiver, i shouldn't really because i have far too many basses...and my lack of ability does not justify more...but i can't get Stingrays out of my GAS. I've had two 4's in the past and always ended up coming back to my jazzes...weird. I do miss the bottom end of Musicmans though for drum, n bass style music/reggae dubby stuff. I have a Lakalnd JO5 which i love and is kinda like the perfect Jazz 5 for me but i can't shift these musicman thoughts. Maybe if i can sell my Steinberger Synapse 5 then a Musicman could be within the sites...i did promise the wife a holiday with some bass sale money...and that was that
7. I use flats, great for reggae & dirty old skool funk vibes. I struggle to slap on em though (not that i'm any good at slap though) but then i suppose they're not really made for slapping. Anyone tried those nylons strings.?..am considering trying those out...bloody pricey though!
8.
Come on, this poor little PUP is sitting alone and unused, can't you feel its pain? It'll break my heart to see it go, but go on, give it a home...... Chris
Go on them, PM me your paypal...or bank transfer and i'll take it off ya. Cheers bud, Lee
9. Ok, finally a few more pictures...unfortunately from my phone in the end! Anyhow, these basses have become very difficult to get in Europe - a Steinberger Synapse XS-15FPA Custom 5-string. The main reason for this is that Gibson, who have owned Steinberger since the late 80's, have taken back distribution of their products in Europe from Rosetti, who handled it for years, and have decided to do it themselves. Unfortunately they don't appear to have planned ahead very well, and new Steinberger guitars are simply not going to be distributed until further notice. For reasons that are unclear, they have also instructed all online retailers in the States that they cannot ship any Steinberger products outside the USA. This bass has a graphite reinforced wooden neck and a beautiful super smooth phenolic fingerboard. It's the custom version, which means it has an attractive stripey maple top under a translucent blue finish. As mentioned earlier, you can read all the tech specs on the Steinberger website at http://www.steinberger.com/XS15FPACST.html The pickup configuration has been altered from stock, as it comes from the factory with a single magnetic pickup and piezo sensors under the bridge saddle. The previous owner found the piezos to be pretty useless, so he had the marvelous Martin Petersen at The Gallery fit another identical EMG in the bridge position. The piezos are still in there, but are disconnected. The controls are now master volume, pan between front and rear pickups, and treble and bass cut and boost. Sound-wise, it's pleasingly bright, punchy and resonant, and very easy to play. Martin also set it up and gave the bass a clean bill of health, the neck is straight, the truss rod is fine, and it has no issues. The strap arrangement is cool - it has a hook bar that protrudes from the body that you attach on to at the front, and conventional strap buttons at the back. It may look a little odd, but it makes the bass really well balanced and comfortable to wear. The bar doesn't get in the way at all, and it also tilts the body just enough to give good sight of the fingerboard...it's a very comfortable ergonomic bass. There are also two allen keys cunningly concealed in the end of the bass by the strap buttons. No more searching around for the right sized ones... You can use standard strings or double ball ends, and it currently has a new set of D'Addario XLs fitted. Included is a new set of Steinberger double ball end 'high C' strings should you want to string it up E-C instead of B-G. It comes complete with a rather natty fitted, posh, lined hard case, an instruction booklet, and I'll also include a nice strap. As you can see from the photos, the bass is in very good order throughout, with just a couple of small scuffs by the strap buttons. Any more questions, please get in touch.
10.
grrrr i really really want this! but i don't NEED this! GAS can really tear you up inside! good luck with the sale
Lol, understadable...although if your a fan of 17mm spacing you'd soon find you NEED it over WANT - it looks sooooo cool, subjective of course...but it is still cool. Goodluck with the GAS.
11. Go on then, put me down for a tenner...never tried a Warwick!
12. Keep me in the loop when you get the beer belly sizes!
13. Well.....i got this bass back in December and can truly say i love nearly absolutely everything about it...except the string spacing. So if anyones interested in a top notch high end real deal 5 string Steinberger Synapse custom model (Custom from the Colour and Extra PU fitted) then send a PM (its a very posh bass with a posh case and all+extra's). See new pictures further down this thread See http://www.steinberger.com/XS1FPACST.html has all the details, mine has an extra PU (EMG) fitted at the Bridge....professionally done (details can be provided), the Piezo is still in there but has been disconnected. I may change my mind and keep it...but then who knows. I'm interested in trades ideally a Musicman 4 or 5 string, or Spectors...but alas try me with anything but if a 5 string must have similar spacing to my Lakland (i thinks its around 19mm) - May do a cash deal. I have a little cash also to add to for the right deal on a trade if needs be. I can only describe this bass as posh, the quality is amazing, as is the case, strap etc etc More pix available on request. Please note this bass has two pick ups!....bonus!
14. I've just recently joined the Stagg club too....quite impressed so far!
15. Not a great picture (from my phone), but here's the latest incarnation:
16. I do and have done a couple of weird tunes i guess. In the Circus of sound band we play the Knightrider theme in a funky style, we also do a Ska over the Seven nation army B-line (on our myspace below). We've recently been dabbling with the b-line form Roni Size's Brown paper bag too-thats good fun to play! In my old funk band we used to do a funky version of an obscure Gong song called 'Take a little trip' that segued into a slowed down and trippy Hendrix's Band of Gypsies 'Who knows' (The whole thing i think was supposed to replicate an LSD experience ish). As for recent bass lines that i thought was fun but a bit odd, Madness's 'House of fun' has to be up there-i learned it but never used it. My new electronica dubby band Dub synergy have just been dabbling with a drum n bass version of Massive Attack's 'Safe from Harm' but using more bass from the original Billy Cobham's 'Stratus' (The chorus and outro riffs) tune...great repetitive riff but 'gor blimey governor' its a hard one on the wrists (RSI)-you know the one!!!
17.
And according to the interview in BGM Robbie Shakespeare now plays Markbass.
Yeah absolutely mate...and great taste too, hence me and Redstriper converted to Markbass a few months ago - for me Markbass had the edge on the Eden but if it didn't have that magic VLE knob then i'd have kept the Eden for sure. Ironically i totally ate all my words with the Markbass, i didn't want to succumb to the Markbass hype and after preaching to my irie brethren about Edens & 6x10's shifting more air etc than any 15" could i'm now using two Markbass 15" cabs (one being the Berlin combo)....no more back breaking 6x10 Anyhow, Markbass, the lightest rig i've ever played and for me the most versatile and best sounding reggae rig i've ever used....and interestingly i'm playing more funk than ever now
18. Reggae bass is far from 'Dull' - how is dull an expression of bass sound? I'm confused on that one...now earth shattering low resonance that moves ya belly....now that i think is deep, or heavy (which again can be confused with metal heads)....just thought i'd add a bit....maybe your confusing Dull with Dub? - I suppose the opposite is bright and then it could be dull or dark....but hey that's the weather not bass! Irie
19.
Hi Rasta, All I can say is "Your Markbass must be pretty darn good, to make you want to sell that Eden!".
Glad your liking it mate. Yeah the Eden opens up a whole new world to your sound. The Markbass is also a great sound, particularly for my own personal sound. Couldn't really justify keeping the two heads and for me the Markbass just had the edge with portability, sound and i must admit i'm a sucker for the yellow speakers too! But it was close as the Eden is beautiful too....infact it shares some similarities to the Markbass in that when i used the eden i never touched the Eq hardly ever, just used the magical enhance knob-and on the markbass i just use the vintage speaker emulator knob and i have funk to dub in one knob......crazy but great. Happy playing-job well done!
20.
Erm...despite the inevitable lusting for Varri...the bass itself is still for sale
Y'know i enjoyed this pic so much that its now a screensaver on my Mac...hope thats ok Lys! Very good
21. Typical, i ordered one from Leeds last week...waiting for it!
22.
No such thing
Glad the Edens gone to a good home, i miss it already, but alas a new era....like you guys with your old Traces as ol' faithful the Eden was mine - great head. As for over the top 'well some would say' (in a Top Gear Clarkson voice style) why have a cheap middle eastern motor if you haven't tried an old Classic...lol, on that note i prefer my £700 90's Toyota Celica convertible over my £4K Renault Scenic from 2 years ago-and more bloody reliable, shame the same can't be said for my camper Crap analogies i know Enjoy the Eden
23.
How does is sound?
Not sure yet mate, it should be here early next week. Will let you know it arrives; may gig it next Tuesday too if i can get used to it in time!
24.
What have you got now ?! EDIT: Ok found it.. http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=33590 Didn't have you down as the headless type ! .
Yeah just told the wife....funkin headless now-where's the wine!
