This guy had some seriously good stuff listed...about a half dozen old old Jazzes, some Precisions, Les Pauls, SGs, amplifiers, acoustics. They were all shot in what looked like the same location. P

Hmmm. Now that is interesting. In the time I typed in my initial posting, to the time I went back in, his shop has gone from 250 items to 5 items and no musical gear at all. He had dozens and dozens of guitars listed...Fenders, Gibsons. P

Just one thing for the purists, there were issues during the 70s in which the bridge pickup was [mistakenly] situated closer to the bridge than it should have been. It's nice to see that they've recreated this as well. I can't remember where I actually read this - I think it was in the Tom Wheeler book [i]American Guitars[/i] - it was something that happened when Fender retooled their machinery to accommodate the new three-screw adjust-a-tilt neck/plate and for some reason the routing for the bridge pickup got shunted back about a half inch. It didn't affect the neck pickup position. If you have a look at the attached photo - in Photoshop I've taken the new 70s reissue and then overlayed a 60s model - the different pickup positions are clearly visible. P

Now here's a quick observation: Whether this stacks up or not, if you buy a black one and put a BadAssII bridge on it, doesn't it essentially become a Geddy Lee model? Heh. I have to say, they do look very nice. Where are they made? P

Noticed these coming up on eBay once in a while - currently a vintage white/creamy one up, shipped for under £300.00. [url="http://tinyurl.com/4s8dp3"](eBay link)[/url] Anyone actually played one of these? Any good? The bridge is different to the original models, but otherwise, it certainly looks the part. Funds don't stretch to paying three or four times this amount for a Gibson. P

I wouldn't want any furniture...this has to be something that can be played and dinged. Spector Thunderbird, black, black hardware. I'd like it to have the guts of a Rickenbacker 4001 please. And block inlays. I have a picture on my PC of an old trashed jazz body with a couple of MusicMan pickups installed, something like that with a rosewood board and block inlays. P

UPS are collecting from the delivery point (my place of employment) next Monday. I'm going to wait for the replacement...but there's no urgency for a quick replacement right now as [earlier today] I left the band I was in, so I don't need it so quickly. My old Ashdown MAG combo is fully repaired (thanks to some stuff Ashdown parts sent out FOC), so if I need to make noise superquick, I'll just sit the combo on top of my 1x15. It's done me for the last year; it'll do me for the next few weeks. P

Thomann have finally agreed to have the cabinet collected - promising that UPS will contact me direct within a few days to arrange collection. The cabinet is now out of stock at Thomann until maybe the end of the month to mid-October. I'm really less than happy. Obviously everyone wants to save money (the Thomann price was about 25% cheaper than anywhere I could have got the same unit over here), but this is stretching my patience. Their customer service has been really turdy. The only direct action I've achieved has been by picking up the telephone; they've not responded to a single e-mail. P

Considering that one of their most famous endorsees (Dimebag) was shot dead on stage, naming any guitar the DOA seems a little misguided. Hmmm, [i]Dreamowners of America[/i] anyone? Nooooo, the first thing most people would think is Dead or Alive, or, Dead on Arrival. P

This issue is still rolling on and Thomann are proving to be quite useless. This is my first purchase from them and likely my last. I guess if you order something smallish or flight-cased (ie a bass) then you should be OK, but quite obviously anything bigger (and packed in cardboard, then if it's broken, then you're stuffed. Ho hum. More soon. P

There's an interview with Mr Lee on bassplayer.tv where he supports this, saying the stock machines are being changed 'on the next production run'. That said, I believe he uses the Japanese models as live backup - preferring his original 75 model and the custom shop editions for live work. P -
I spent a few hours in the Reading branch of Dawsons before Christmas last year, and have to say in defence of the chain, that they were very cool. Here's your amp, here's a lead, play what you want and it you want it, we'll get it from stock. Just be careful not to ding anything, Couldn't have been more the opposite than your experience. That said, haven't been in there for ten months...could be all change now. P

Not up for a fight or anything, but can I ask something to everyone? When does this bass cease to be a Geddy Lee and just become a modded Jazz bass? I'm not familiar with Wizard pickups, or for that matter, the circuitry mods, but having played a new GL signature straight from the box when I was in the US in 2006 it sounded sweeeet as is...I would only have said the machines were a little grindy and suspect. Surely pulling all the guts out of it and replacing it with something different is akin to giving it a heart transplant. P

It's arguable that Tokai were producing better than Fender instruments in the early 80s - a store near me had one of these hanging on the wall for years and years. Sunburst. If I'd have been trying to enlarge the holes, I'd have clamped the metal to something, or hand held it to drill it (during which time it would have spun round wildly and probably ruined it as well). I would never have thought to actually screw the plate to a piece of wood, then drill it. Genius. P

Interesting. While I'm not really that much of a Stingray fan, I do like the look of the Status neck on a black 'ray body...with black hardware/scratchplate it would look super saucy. Insofar as a donor/project bass goes, £150 for a body and £250 for the [Status] neck doesn't seem that much, plus, Status offer a build/setup service. I'd be interested to know whether anyone has ever put a BadAssII on a Stingray (only because I have one at home). Value wise, once it was done I wouldn't be bothered about breaking up the parts to sell on. I'd probably just keep it or sell it on complete if I lost interest in it. Cheers P

I'm not trying to make an issue of this, but be straight...it's no point saying £100.38, when it's closer to £700+. The guys (and girls) on this list who'll be following this thread will be keen to know how much everything cost (including shipping and taxes) as much as they're interested in the end result. I'm sure there's a few here that would happily go the Warmoth route in future. That said, good luck with the project. P
