1.
Do you mean that you're intending to make the speaker cab from perspex? I'm not sure how good an idea that is, since it would have to be thick and heavy to achieve the necessary stiffness, and speaker cabs should really be lined with wadding or acoustic foam which would spoil the visual impact of using a clear material. It does seem rather like design for design's sake.
As soon as I saw this, pretty much all these points came to mind before I'd even got this far down the thread. It's a shame you've even taken this concept this far and not seemingly considered/known about the internal workings of a(ny) cabinet. I'd also add that the cabinet isn't going to look so pretty once it's been lumped into the back of your chosen transport a few times either. Surely once it took a knock, the perspex would crack/chip/bend? Also, what material are you going to use on the front panel to protect the cones from all those flying bottles (of piss)? Considering the prices you're pitching it at, you can get an awful lot of cabinet elsewhere for £1,000. Would I spend a grand on this? Umm, no. P
2. I saw some recent photos of Geddy and he's kind of turning into what my grandmother looked like!! The Rock Icon season premiered last night in the US, so (hopefully) someone will upload it somewhere for the rest of the planet to watch. Looking at the season trailer, I'm also looking for to the Nikki Sixx one...I do confess to some enduring Crue love; Too Fast For Love and the John Corabi fronted Motley Crue, but aside from this I really don't give a damn about the rest of their output. I've always been drawn to their backstory and find both Sixx and Lee somewhat charismatic and very entertaining. Hopefully, that'll be a good one.
3. I've never read BGM, but I'm tempted to now if only to determine whether it's the train wreck that many here say it is. I subscribe to Bass Player (US) and that's got worse and worse; each edition features more white paper than editorial and there is too high of a reliance on too few manufacturers (perhaps money is changing hands, who knows?). I suppose being a monthly publication it's always going to be a few steps behind the pace as well. Let's face it; we are approaching the slow death of printed matter. Everything will go digital eventually, which is a shame as I'm really not a fan of using my tablet when I'm on the bog.
4.
I'm going to assume this is a critique on the whole "opinion as fact" thing. If I'm wrong about that, shut your piehole
bwahaha
5. If anyone is missing any content, shoot me a message. I have everything and a bunch more.
6. I remember seeing It Bites debut this song at the old Guildford Civic Hall...this was before the album came out. Me and my mate just stood slackjawed. I know there was Yes and Genesis and Rush doing their poop, but this was different; guys roughly our age exposing us to an amazing piece. I listened to it again a few days ago. It's as awesome now as it was 25-odd years ago.
7. *I was being ironic. I would never play anything by U2.
8. I think it was something by Adam Clayton, only because it was so difficult to stop myself doing something interesting.*
9.
Might force Fender to trim down their range..
Bwahaha. Fender are just plain lazy by relying on less than five core products for the last fifty or so years. They need a fecking kick in the pants to jimmy them up a bit. Gibson are just as guilty.
10.
This is the article I think.. http://www.ericgarland.co/2015/02/03/end-guitar-center/
That's the article. It came through on Buzzfeed. I'll have a better read tonight. I used to work in retail...the mark up was close to 100% after we sold stock on. It's staggering. I suppose if GC goes and the aforementioned big box brands start direct selling, then this has to be a good thing for the end customer.
11. Sitting on the bog in my hotel room at 5.00am this morning, whilst reading an article on my tablet, I happened upon an article about the pending demise of Guitar Center in the US - they're apparently down to their last $10m (down from $25m in 2014). More interesting, there was some speculation that their pending demise (oh, it's definitely gonna happen) will also take down big box brands as their reliance on Guitar Center alone is too high. One brand that was mentioned was Fender, who are looking to go the direct sale route in the US to stave off loss of sales. I'll try and locate the article and post a link this evening. P

13. The voice of reason says this: While I'm certain that you're ecstatic with the basses, please let's not start going the Talk Bass route and having clubs. It's irritating enough that there's these overlong, 'show us your <insert bass here>' threads (rather than individual topics), but if we go the route of clubs, before you know it people will be feverishly requesting Fender/Lakland/Rickenbacker club numbers. Enjoy your basses, but please dispense with this official club nonsense.
14. I'm going to hold onto the 4x10, but the 1x15 is available. I got a PM from steve-bbb who was hoping to take it the end of this month, so if he doesn't want it, I'm sure we can work something out. P
15. My situation is this. I have the funds, but, more importantly, I have seven (very decent) basses within two meters from where I'm typing this, some of which would need selling before I even thought about buying a Lull. I've spent some time building this collection and I'd like to keep some of those. I could lose two or three if a BLACK Lull became available.
16.
Cut out the middle-man, save like f*** and buy this.
Shhh. I don't need to save!
17. This my friends is what happens when you put on three per-pubescent Japanese girls on instead of a proper band. If this is the way of things, then good riddance.
18. Awesome head. An RBI and an RPM and a poweramp stage. I had one, just great.
19.
I'm bloody glad they were asked. Better that than someone blindly accepting the negative factpinions which get paraded as received wisdom around here when it comes to Thunderbirds and Gibson basses in general.
Isn't it always the same questions though? And time and time again. Neckdive, strap lug position, scale length blah blah blah. It's like looking at hotel reviews on TripAdvisor, no one focuses or reads the positive comments. Christ Neeph, you and me have fought for the positive side Gibson basses for years, both here and on LBO, so you know how it is. Yes, I admit, there is an element of neck dive, but (to me) it's not an issue in the slightest. If it bothers anyone, buy a wider strap or a Fender. I had a degree of diving with the old Lakland DJ5 I used to own, but no one ever goes. 'Ooh, those Laklands, man they're terrible at keeping horizontal.' P
20. I'm fairly new to this Rickenbacker malarky...I lurked for an awful long time. The one model that really got me hooked was the Blackstar. I'd like to have seen that reissued. Now that's a pant-wettingly beautiful bass.
