1. Weird. I just wiggled the bridge pickup around and it's fully restored. Good you might think. No, not good. This harks back to an issue I had when I got the bass initially. Hmmm.
2. One of my basses has developed a problem...it's a two pickup model, volume/volume/tone pot configuration (like a Jazz). The neck pickup appears fine in isolation, but when I increase the bridge pickup pot, when the pot hits 8/10 the output disappears and the whole bass goes quiet. There's output, but it's very, very quiet. If I tap the neck pickup the tapping is audible, the bridge pickup there's nothing. The issue seems to have come on pretty quickly...the bass has been in the case for a little over a week. Any idea? Cheers P
3. I've no issues personally, but every guitarist I know seems to carry too much peripheral gear in a mix of carrier bags and Tupperware boxes.

I was incapable of doing anything. It was hard for me to just get through the day, much less lawyer up and deal with all the legalities of an estate and probate. And the other thing, too, is that I really just want to move on with my positive memories of my husband. I want to move on as an artist. I am fortunate that I do have a career. I had a career when I met him. It was somewhat shelved for a while there, because I toured with and I was involved in his business." "But I am lucky that I can go back to that now and get that going again, and I don't really need to cling to his coattails and try to wring money out of his estate." Wachtel Weiland has made a claim for just $64,000 from the estate, money that he owed her. She adds: "As far as the claim that I made, it was just very perfunctory. We had a prenuptial agreement, he was supposed to pay a certain amount of money. He only paid it twice. It's just a formality. To be honest, I'll probably never see that money, and anyone that understands how prenuptial agreements actually work and how his estate was left gets that." Weiland died in December 2015 aged 48. He was found dead on his tour bus, where he was on the road with his band The Wildabouts. Hennepin County Medical Examiner in Minneapolis confirmed that he died after taking cocaine, ethanol and methylenedioxyamphetamine (MDA).
5. I know this thread is about five years old, but the restored version of the Live/Studio double 'Strung Up' dropped through my letterbox at the weekend and I've been playing that along with Sweet Fanny Adams and Desolution Boulevard almost exclusively for the last few days. Some 40 years on, I'm still knocked out by how good they were, or more to the point, what a great product they bought to the market. I can still remember the excitement I felt when, as a ten year old kid, I read in Disco 45 that the next single would be called Ballroom Blitz (whatever that actually meant). These three albums (along with a handful of Sparks and Mott The Hoople albums), formed the backbone of what consituted my record collection as a pre-teenage kid and I've come to accept that it was probably Steve Priest who initially made me want to play the bass in the first place. Great stuff.
6. I'm using Hartke Hydrives, have been for years. I have a 4x10 and a 2x10 and can pick and choose dependent on the situation. These weigh far less than the equivalent Ashdown enclosures I used to run. Recently I bought a Matrix poweramp; this weighs about a third of the Ashdown EVOIII it replaced, so my rack weight has halved. I'm made up to be honest; my tone is great for me and I don't have any issues with load out after a four hour session.
7.
Nancy that girl in your photo isn't loving your mullet either lol
She was singer in this folksy/rock band we shared the bill with. On stage they were all prim and proper. I remember her exact words after we finished our set. 'I nearly f***ing sh*t my panties when those explosions went off.'
8. I love watching wood being turned. Blame Norm Abraham. That was fantastic.
9.
Jimmy Eat World I believe
Good call. All these turn of the century US beige bands. Can't tell them apart!
10. I had one of these too. I bought it from FD&H on Charing Cross Road, maybe 1980. It was my first proper bass, you know, not a copy. It was just a wonderful, wonderful bass. Here's a photo of me using it ('The Mullet Years') and well worthy of a why-isn't-this-sold bumpage.
11. We have been here before. I can't remember the name of the bass player, but it was an American guy, played for someone like Third Eye Blind, had Fender custom shop instruments with left-handed/reverse headstocks, citing the longer string length (albeit on the E-string) resulted in better/more agreeable tension across the set. I think the consensus was the guy was speaking out of his bottom.
12.
Limelight now produce basses with their own logo applied. http://classicandcoo...ht0017663pbass/
For some reason this makes me very happy. It's also a really nice logo.
13. I built some little stands for mine...hardwood 2x2" stock, glued and screwed (Jenga-style) to bring the drivers up to ear height; got some adjustable feet to minimise contact with the desk they're sitting in. The difference is astonishing.
14. Can I make a little suggestion? At last years Bash, there were a few attendees who were selling gear. Would it be possible to get some kind of listing together ahead of this? Obviously, don't post who is selling here, just list what, an anticipated price and preferred payment method?
15.
Bump - For Sale. Something on here is calling my name........
Is it an amrful of Citizen watches? That is beautiful.
16.
Not wanting to derail the thread but THAT was a blast from the past. Whatever happened to him?
He always had great basses for sale! I had a few conversations with him online; he said he used to trawl eBay every day for every bass for sale on the .com site to accumulate vintage guitars and basses. Last contact I had, he was putting together a large format coffee table book full of hi-resolution photos of the stuff he'd sold. On the upside, he was wholly responsible for the Dudepit editions at Lakland; I think a lot of people were pretty much barking, 'Take my money!' at him. Later, things soured...he allegedly had a mahoosive drug problem and after taking deposits for another special edition of some sort, money went missing and things went south for him very quickly. I think he was responsible for the Thunderbird shaped prototype Lakland built (you'll find photos online). That's pretty much it as far as I know. I might have a trawl on Google later today as this has picqued my interest in him.
17. Didn't you have noodle on my Jax last bash, my carpal-tunnelled comrade?
18.
Funny you should mention that... 2 pickups but here you go anyway: http://www.mikelull....ture-ament.html The red one at Bass Direct is £3K though!
I've got a black JAXT4. It is amaaaaaazing. Whether it's worth £3K is debatable, but did I say it's amaaaaaazing? P
19. Hubba bubba. At least credit to Epiphone...they have done red, blue, silver ones. Honestly believe Gibson are missing a trick here. If they did do some new colours, I'd probably buy a couple of them.
20. Stop getting over excited you chrome-fetishers. Let's see whether [they're] actually up for this. Steve Barr/Dudepit did some limited action with Lakland and of course the Lakland Owners Group carried that on. I think for a Lakland the special order numbers were a minimum of twenty or something. It was ridiculously small. Given that some Gibson bass runs barely hit 200, you'd thing something was doable. P
21. UPDATE I've contacted Thomann to see what the situation would be to do a 'Thomann Run' of Thunderbirds in different colours. To support this, I did mention the Sapphire Blue Yamano model they did for the Japanese market about fifteen years ago. They have actually come back to me and said that while they work with Gibson for guitars and specials, they've never done basses and they're going to enquire, so haven't shut the door on it. Could be interesting...
22. I think the issue with most drummers is that they only play the drums when they're in a band environment. The very nature of the instrument determines that home practice is impractical. The drummer in my band is a nightmare during rehearsal but it always comes together at gigs. It's the journey to the destination that's the rollercoaster ride. We've suggested clicks etc. but nothing seems to work...he arrives at every jam/gig like an excitable hyperactive kid.
23. My band (Who Killed Nancy Johnson?) got picked up by Alan McGee's MAH project and we've organised two shows in support of this worthy cause. The first one is on SUNDAY 25/9/16 at Sanctuary, Basingstoke and the second one at The Star Inn, Guildford on SATURDAY 1/10/16. We've played with all these bands and they're all good. None of them gave a second thought to having a think about giving their time to do these; it was an instant, 'f*** it, yeah!' from all concerned. While it would be great to get a full house at both, the gigs are part of a national thing and there's dozens of events going on over a two week period. Try and get involved and please support one of them wherever you are. Cheers Paul
