1. I've used one of those for ages at rehearsals, both on DB and on electric bass. They're even better if you get the backrest too! I found mine way too heavy and clumsy to carry around though. Most of the bands I'm involved with rehearse in my space so that makes it easy for me.
 2. Welcome aboard, and the KK BabyBass is a good choice ... I use mine extensively, especially in the smaller venues. Choosing alternative strings for DB and similar is a horribly expensive thing to experiment with. In your position, I'd just phone Kris and ask for his opinion. He's a really nice guy and very helpful, plus he knows exactly which strings work best with his own basses. As for the preamp, it really depends on whether you'll be playing through your own backline, or going through the house PA (or, of course) both at once. In most situations I find it best to have a preamp with me, but not one designed for DB like a PlatPro. I've had the best results with an MXR M81, standard pedal size (i.e. small) but very versatile and with the functions/features you're actually likely to need when playing a KK live. A decent alternative is the Hartke Bass Attack, but I'd steer clear of the Sansamp range for this particular application.
 3. I don't know these lads, and I'm no expert on studios either, but you could do worse than advise them to avoid the mixing process this time around. In particular, no ONE band member should be allowed to be involved. If one does it, then the whole band has to do it. If this is their first serious attempt, then their best route is to leave it to the professional. Also, that gives them all someone to blame later.
 4.
Plays loads and get the one with the best B string as quite a lot of them are woeful, As always, the B string defines a 5 string.
^^^ This. I've had plenty of five-strings and the variation in the way the low B feels, plays and sounds can be quite astonishing. Personally I detest a flobbadob low B (YMMV of course) and I steered towards basses with a 35" scale quite a while ago for that reason. Obviously your preferred string choice will come into this too. White Cloud said it early in this thread ... do the shops, play loads of 5-string basses, THEN decide which one you like.
 5.
If you can't get used to playing the bass then the best idea is to sell it and play something you like.
Like maybe a trumpet.
 6. All of my obbm cables are still operational.

 9. If only it was a 5-string ...
 10. Can't comment on the stolen aspect, especially with so little to go on, but I'd seriously pause for thought before walking into a stranger's flat on the other side of London with a grand in cash in my pocket. If you go, be sure to take a friend.
 11. MacDaddy has many long-standing problems involving Sticky Toffee pudding, but he doesn't like to talk about them in public.
 12.
I genuinely keep better time on my own. I march to the beat of my own drum, quite literally.
Irishman + Drum = March
 13.
Yes, he's got a woman's top on.
Yup, punk has definitely moved on from black bin-liners ...
 14.

What's the problem with this photo? If he pumps enough air into those tyres then surely his car will float to the surface?
 15.
Bargain of the year! Wow!

MB1. BUMP!
Gosh ... it's not often that a bass gets bumped by not one but TWO of our Moderators. And both within three days of the ad being posted. Now that's impressive. Must be something pretty special.
 16.
Back Up!
Nah! If it was mine, it would be first choice, not back up ...

 20.
learn to sing yourself, seriously, have lessons if need be, practice at home by recording yourself and singing through headphones, I improved my singing loads by just doing open mics, most of it is just confidence
This ^^^ Unless you're actually tone deaf, anyone can learn to sing. The trouble is, few people seem to realise that learning to sing properly is about as easy as learning to play bass properly. But a dedicated singer in most bands (and of course IMHO, YMMV, DILLIGAF, LOL, ETC) is a trouble-causing passenger with an ego the size of Jupiter.
 21. Agreed to all the above, but you have to make a decision early on as to whether this is going to be a "serious" instrument or a bit of fun. I use mine mainly with a steampunk folk outfit, where I play most of the set on a DB (oh look, he knows how to play properly) but shift to the Uke for a couple of rockier numbers near the end (oh look, he can have fun too). I don't think my intonation or accuracy are particularly bad on the Uke but, more importantly, I don't worry about it. It's a bit of fun at the end of the set for me.
 22. I tried to watch it but gave up after 10 minutes. The whole thing was so blatantly fake that it made my toes curl. It's hard to be undercover when you're not only trailed by a very obvious camera crew but also the people you interact with have to repeat (scripted?) comments for the sake of the cutaways. Unreality TV at its most insincere. You should now watch out for Ajay's sudden reemergence as a panel guest on daytime quiz shows ... he's a celebrity, dontcherknow?
 23.
Watch the US version of undercover bosses with Peavey...
Sad to see that the Peavey episode of that TV series dropped a quarter of the show's regular audience. They really couldn't catch a break, could they?
 24. £1.50 would get you a decent bag of jelly babies. I know which I'd rather have ...
