In the interest of openness, the chain of events was thus:

WaynePunkDude had his membership of Basschat withdrawn (ie. he got banned).
He disagreed with the decision and a heated discussion took place online (away from Basschat).
Some Basschat members, involved in this discussion, decided to boycott the forum as a show of solidarity towards Wayne.
The Mod team and Admins remain responsible for the decision to ban Wayne. Our policy (rightly) means that we can’t discuss it in public - otherwise we’d be challenged to discuss any/all such decisions in future (some of which are based on very sensitive personal issues).
This leaves us open to accusations of conspiracy, but we have to live with that. The alternative is airing dirty laundry in public, which would be a far worse outcome.
And that’s the sum of it.
Mods, thanks for that. I think this response is the right thing to have posted and, while I would prefer you to have gone further, I recognise that's just one opinion amongst many. NOT specifically in connection with WPD but more as a general point, I'm not convinced that you can actually say "Our policy (rightly) means ...". That, too, is no more than an opinion. I think that there really are cases where no such discussion should be allowed, but conversely there are cases where refusal to embrace Glasnost actually does more harm than would be done by standing by your principles. On that note, I have no brief to speak for anyone bar myself but some of those who have gone were also doing no more than standing by their principles, i.e. loyalty to a long-standing friend. Just saying ...
To my knowledge, I live with 30mins of WPD and we probably know and play the same places but I've never met him or been remotely likely to.
So that's why you've never been seen at the same time. In truth, the thing I've learned most from this thread today is that you'll probably break through 10,000 posts before it gets dark. At that point, you finally discover the truth about the Inner Sanctum on Basschat. I'm not allowed to talk about it, but I'll just say watch those ceremonial robes; they tend to ride up a bit during long prayer meetings.

Large fogger at floor level = rare to have problems. Small fogger on lighting bar (to get the best effect for the lasers) = major issues if there are any ceiling-mounted smoke detectors. Mind you, at our last gig most of the audience was over 60. Still rocking, the lot of them, but some had breathing issues and half way through the first set we were asked to stop using any foggers or smoke machines.
-
On the fogger thing BTW, I'm a big fan but always check where the venue's smoke detectors are before you set up ...
... so there's unlikely to be enough time to be as ruthlessly efficient as you describe
But there's always time for a fanatical devotion to the Pope!
I find it hard to believe this chap is a troll, because his posts are written quite well or semi normal. Then again, maybe he's a clever troll, who balances these wild statements with half truths.
The Duke Of Wellington once said: "I don't know how many grains of sand one needs to make a heap, but I know a heap when I see one." It was obvious (to me, anyway) that he was a troll from his very first post. Why the quality of the writing or apparent "clever"-ness should enter into it is a complete mystery to me. Are you suggesting that only semi-literate morons can be trolls?

Why I sold my cat? Sounds a bit heartless ...

The very worst photography, a ludicrous headstock,

That would give more room to write "Gibson" in felt-tip pen, that's true. -
Hey - I bought two of your sweatshirts, OK?

Me, sometimes. Depends on whether or not my back is aching. I suppose that, if I had to choose one thing to have in common with Robert Fripp, it would probably be this. I'm not that fussed about awesome musicality, worldwide fame, an address book to die for, or dodgy facial hair.
With regards to sub placemnt, we always have one top on a stand and then the other one stacked on top of both subs.
Is this a zen thing? Sounds like a Moebius sub to me.

Put enough effort into your search and you might save a tenner, but for £150-ish this is pretty much unbeatable: http://www.amazon.co.uk/KAM-LED-Power-Partybar-Lights/dp/B00KCM2UYA Add a couple of decent (but still cheap) lasers and a small fogger, and you've got more lights than the average pub band ever uses. The whole lot will probably cost you a single gig fee. As to "low output", that's not been my experience. You get one of those KAM bars with a single lamp in your face and all you want to do is swivel it to face elsewhere.

He mentioned it once, but I think he got away with it ...

Certainly looks like it's been smeared with the stuff ...

My point, Rob. You try attaching a broomstick to one of those tattered, rotten things and you'd soon see some action (did you see what I did there?) ...

Blimey! The Rickenbacker thread has just kicked off again!

Is this what they mean by Foot In Mouth disease? -
so who are the highest posting members (not mods) now? I see Happy Jack's at 7,824 - that must be top four?!
Not really fair to exclude Mods from that, Ted. They're members too and they have a huge influence on the feel of the forum. On that list I seem to be at No.20, but Dood's only on it because he cheated and awarded himself eight million posts. Of the 18 names genuinely above me on that list, I am aware of seven who are no longer on Basschat. Doesn't sound too bad until you realise that four of them have gone within the last two months. I haven't bothered to look at the next 20 or the 20 below that. I'm sure others will do so. If you choose to exclude the Mods after all (your choice, not mine) that only makes it worse.
How on earth can you write in a patronising way?
Well if you don't know something as obvious as that, then there's no point in me trying to explain it to you.
Are we awaiting for a call from Mr Hall's lawyers for allowing a duplicate Rickenbacker thread?

Especially as the copy thread is better than the original.
Thank you Bronner. Without your brain-dead nastiness, we'd never have had this piece of genius. -
Wow! You're still here? Couldn't find the door, huh?
What is that ethos and who should be ensuring that the founding principles are adhered too? I think most people are happy to follow rules and guidelines but how can you be sure everyone knows what they are?
Good grief! I don't know you personally and I have no intention of being offensive, but do you actually understand what ethos means? Anything that can be defined and pinned down in terms of rules and guidelines is the very antithesis of ethos. The people who have gone, or have gone quiet, are those who gave this place its character, simply by being who they were/are ... exceptionally nice people who like helping and interacting with other musicians. Any attempt to enforce "niceness" or "being supportive" is doomed to failure. IMHO of course. YMMV.
It's okay. I'm back now lads. Seriously...which members are we talking about as I seem to see the same folk posting. However, I'm quite new to the forum...maybe 9-10 months.

Yes who are the 'Good' posters please? As someone with only a year on the forum ...
My point, I'm afraid. Basschat was created by a particular bunch of people. Whether or not they (we) intended it, that bunch gave this place its ethos. Those people are going, and those who are left don't even know who they were! When all that's left is (relative) newbies and foreign posters with three posts trying to sell Foderas, you may wonder why it's gone so quiet.
