1. Or you could go way cheaper: https://www.pmtonline.co.uk/musicman-sterling-sub-ray-5-string-bass-guitar-rosewood-trans-blue
2. Yup, that was exactly my (badly worded) point.
3. I can easily understand why he chose to photograph it with a 40-year-old Instamatic.
4. Sounds like a very odd set-up to me. Listening to CDs or Spotify through a bass amp is going to fall some way short of high fidelity reproduction, and having 100-150W driving it means that your neighbours had better be deaf. And I can't remember ever seeing a "stereo bass amp". Try buying a small PA mixer plus a pair of small, powered PA cabs.
5.
I'm a big fan of Paul Wolfe's How To Play Bass stuff ...
Ah yes, Musang Sally by Wilon Pickett. More seriously, the first bass note is played at 1:18. That's a long wait for a bass tutorial to get started. More subjectively, I absolutely hated his tone and his bass sounded slightly out of tune to me. YMMV.
6.
That's the thing about Bowie's music. It constantly evolved. Is Gail Ann Dorsey's version any better than Trevor Bolder's? Of course not. Is it as good as? IMHO, yes.
I'm guessing you didn't actually click on my link then ...
7. https://www.anglingdirect.co.uk/fishing-tackle/luggage Seriously. Fishing gear is (relatively) cheap, very rugged, and usually waterproof.
8.
Has anyone got this in sheet form they can ping to me, would love to have a go at this one?
Just play along to it - you'll have no trouble at all with the notes or structure. The song is all about the feel.
9.
Sorry you don't like it, I thought it was pretty good. I'll be grumpy right back at ya and say that the original version was Little Willie John in 1956! Knocks Peggy Lee into a cocked hat if you ask me.
Fascinating! I always thought that song was far too hip & cool to have been written for Peggy Lee. I wasn't sorry to hear the last of Captain Smith & Pocohontas either ...
10. Snap! I don't 'do' Musicman basses but I tried the Sterling as a random pick in a guitar shop (PMT in Newcastle) last week and was genuinely impressed. They had the 5 hanging next to it, but I didn't try it (even though I usually play fivers) because the string spacing was too narrow for my taste.
11.
... I couldn't quite pick out the run at 2:42 until I saw this guy play it....
Bizarrely, I can't hear that run at all on this version. http://youtu.be/J9wV2NiKllg
12.
Got to hear it!
Sad to relate, logistic problems mean that I won't be playing my DB but will instead be using my Takamine TB10. I'm still hoping to get it right, mind ...
And I will be playing it at The Raven and Republic (restaurant/music venue) in North Bay Ontario Canada on Wednesday as part of their jazz night.I'll be using my Yamaha SLB200 EUB but will not be changing keys(singer's choice).Great song for bass and the Peggy Lee version has a simpler bass line than some(a lesson here?) and is at a faster tempo than most people expect, she keeps it moving. I'll be watching for that video bluejay.
And I hope you'll post some of your own ... it's so easy to do acceptable video these days that it would be a shame not to.
13. And, by a weird coincidence, I shall be playing Fever (complete with key changes) at the Ealing Jazz Festival on Saturday.

15. In fairness, for £3750 I'd be disappointed if it was dirty.
16. Where are you? And what does the bass weigh?
17. Is that Nigel's old one? (Xlddx for those who remember him.)
18.
We're mainly in Kent and South East London, but if you know of any venues in your manor let me know. Here's a couple of clips : https://www.youtube....eature=youtu.be https://www.youtube....eature=youtu.be
More to the point, how do you get your strings to follow the curve in the neck of of your bass? Is this a variant on fanned frets?
19. What are these "mistakes" of which you speak? Just play it that way twice. Then it's deliberate. Or blame the drummer. Whatever. 20. That guy really, really needs to steer clear of cocaine ...
21.
I admit I did wonder whether I would see Happy Jack there, but as I have no idea what he looks like without the Spiderman costume, I wouldn't have known anyway...
I only get in there about once a month these days ... working much further away than I used to. I'm 6'6" tall with a full head of hair, built like a tank and scarily handsome, charming, witty, an awesomely talented bass player, and a compulsive liar. Plus I always wear my Spiderman costume when I'm in the West End. I feel it helps me to blend in.
22. https://www.proguarduk.co.uk/ Featuring the immortal paragraph: Now available from ProGuard an increasing selection of generic earplugs including our extremely popular Noizezz range, the Lin-Ear and Ultra Lin-Ear products designed for musicians, DJs, concertgoers and now available our new BikerPlugz and ShooterPlugz Don't you just love crap marketing-speak when it's obsessed with the letter Z?
23. At that price, it's hardly surprising.
24. Confucius, he say, there are two types of fool. One says: This is old, so it's good. The other says: This is new, so it's better.
