1. You need to ask this on a singers forum, they're brilliant at it.
2. Nothing Compares 2 U - Sinead O'Connor.
3. Walking on Sunshine... there, I've said it.
4. I think 14" is his standard, which I find really comfortable, but I'm guessing he'll do anything you want.
5.
the OP says the current guitarists will do it..
If the guitarists can play it, it can't be that hard! I can only speak for me, but in your position I would - Encourage openness between the band... everyone deserves that. Learn the material anyway... when has that not been fun/educational/rewarding? Just see how it develops, maybe it'll all get sorted, but you've learned something and have something in a dep required scenario, maybe he'll leave, maybe he'll be pushed, just take it as it comes. This is unless the bass player is a friend, a close friend of friends, or similar, in which case I wouldn't touch it with a bargepole.
6. I bet it has. My L5 has the Haussells and I honestly can't think of anything I'd rather have in there.
7.
It's hard to photograph with my phone. The kind of illumination dictates whether it appears more red, dark, or you start seeing the 'purple'. Playability and sound are superb. I am just kicking myself for being careless and not getting the neck tint and the body colour right But when I'm playing it I don't care anymore. It's really really nice, and as before, the neck is just right and feels fantastic. For my red one, we talked about the exact tint and they got it right, and I wanted the same. The red was also just right. This one, I failed... ha! The kicker is when I first indicated the colour and sent a couple of pictures as example, he sent one back of an Elwood in pretty much the right colour. It was just a bit too blue, but I'd have loved it. So I mentioned a bit darker and a bit redder... and damn, they listened. The original idea for this bass was Prince! I always wanted a Jazz in purple with white plate (and it's got to be maple for me). When he died last year I was thinking about the Precision body and two J pickups, and I thought 'it's got to happen' but initially I just converted my Matt Freeman Precision as I didn't want to spend much money at the time (contract uncertainties and house move, so I was in save mode). And eventually I went for it. I should have just forgotten about pictures and say "you know Prince's bass? That kind of colour". It'd be different as it's translucent on my bass but that sort of hue (initially it was going to be solid, sparkly purple! but I chickened out and toned it down) Here's a pic I took this morning with natural light:
It looks beautiful in that light. That neck tint should age wonderfully... just need to play it loads and get some dirt ground into it!
8.
It's been delivered!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (at work... big box... and I'm too busy to even just open it to have a look... )
Oh, harsh! Still, anticipation can be fun... no... really!
9.
I got THE email with the picture!!! 9 weeks and a half even with NAMM in the middle... not bad! Here's the new Jake:
That's handsome!
10. There was a DI shootout at last year's Herts bash. Thread with summary and video is here - http://basschat.co.uk/topic/284022-herts-bass-bash-2016-preampdi-pedal-shootout/page__pid__3066222#entry3066222 The Behringer was included, and my little Zoom performed admirably too.
11. Crikey that's a bargain!* *Runs of to Google kit required for Skype lessons
12.
Result!!
Indeed! To be fair though, it was a country project so expectations might not have been that high!
13. I had the Jake in the studio for the first time yesterday, DI with a Grace preamp and through a miked Fender BXR 1x15. The artist and producer wouldn't stop banging on about the sound, it was exactly how I hoped it would be.
14. That is glorious in its simplicity!
15. If Adrian and crew are going I'm giving it a miss. I can't afford a divorce at the moment!
16. Cody Wright... restricted to one day, I'm going on whatever day they put him on!
17.
Adrian emailed me this evening to let me know that this is now ready and will be on its way this week. Ordered on 21st Nov so much like Bearfist's it has turned around much quicker. Can't wait to get my hands on it.
That is stunning, the finish almost looks wet. You'll have some fun with it. I had my L5 out yesterday after playing the Jake exclusively for a month or so as I'm trying to decide which to use for a session later this month, and I was shocked at how easy it is to play, I'd kinda forgotten. Yours has more knobs though, so it must be even more fun!
18.
Finished??
Brilliant... and sooooo true!
19. I've been mostly attempting suicide with cheese. I need to get back on it though as Jake and Elwood have their first studio outing mid-January, and I've 10 songs to put bass lines together for. ... as soon as all this cheese is finished!
20. As above, you can have a pan pot on a passive. My Jake+ usually has Vol, Vol, Tone, but I asked Adrian if there was any technical reason he couldn't make it Vol, Pan, Tone, and he said it would be fine... and it is. Between the controls it has it's easily as versatile as my active Elwood. I find on the Elwood I change my tone mostly with the pan pot and serial/parallel switch... The bass and treble boost/cut controls may as well not be there.
21. +1 for Geddy. No doubt he can play, but is tone is awful, his songs are dull, and his singing makes me want to stamp on kittens. Pretty much any fusion player. Yes they're all very clever, and very capable, but I'd rather feel something than sit through a science lesson.
22. If I had to pick one it would be Tedeschi Trucks - Let Me Get By.
23. That's an on stage accident waiting to happen... a lost eye at minimum! Beautifully done though.
