Best Bass Players of New Romantic Era

looks better now than he did 25 years ago - he was just a wee fattie then with a perm and a bandana. Numan carries a baseball bat around in his car so I'm sure he'd still say what he liked to his face -

Best Bass Players of New Romantic Era
dub_junkie replied to Bass_In_Yer_Face's topic in General Discussion
my favourite by a mile was Jo Dworniak. he had a band in the 80s called I-Level which I didnt care much for but his work on John Foxx's The Garden and The Golden section was just stellar.incidentally I saw Foxx perform the Metamatic album in its entirety along with the B-sides and Burning Car on the 1st night of the tour in October.going to see Siouxsie in March as well. guess you never lose what you grew up with. Barry Adamson was a great player in my estimation - he done all the Visage stuff too Derek Forbes - vastly underrated - his basslines on Sons & Fascination and New Gold Dream are amazing. Paul Gardiner - not really a great technical player but his basslines on Tubeway Army/replicas/Pleasure principle and Telekon were played with weight. shame he died of an OD in 83 Chris Cross's early work with Ultravox was varied, melodic and mostly on a P-bass. not so sure about the moog 8th note bass on much that followed Fiction factory - cant remember the bass players name but the bassline on Throw the warped wheel out is memorable -
Slimming down my 6 string collection a bit for more bass gear so this lovely electro acoustic has to go Model 1860 Custom Balladeer 1993 made in USA Black, solid spruce top, shallow bowl cutaway, 2pc mahogany neck - prominent "V" profile -(dead comfy!) rosewood fingerboard diamond inlays at 12th fret only Ovation FET-3 preamp Ovation hardcase The guitar is in superb condition.really looked after.there are a couple of small laquer splits by the bridge but these are purely cosmetic, and common to these guitars.everything works as it should and it sounds the mutts nutts through a PA or acoustic amp. I also will include an Ovation Feedback buster which blocks off the soundhole for live use. heres the spec from the Ovation site http://www.ovationguitars.com/index.cfm?fa...l&mid=1318# looking for 350 notes + postage could be tempted to part ex for the usual suspects with me (MusicMan,G&L,Fender American Series etc)
Nice bass - looks remarkably like the Spector 5 that Alun (homerplaysbass) used to have a few years ago. If it is indeed the same one then it is a real cracking bass!
'tis the one.

got this Spector from TonyF here on BC back in october.I believe previously she was the property of a few other basschatters as well.
PM'd! I want my AB-y back
PM replied to
Off topic, but.. How does that purple Delay sound? They're pretty cheap on the ol' 'bay..
Its got a fairly short range of delay up to about 300ms like the old Boss DM2s. if analague delay is your thing, you cant go wrong with one of these imo

I voted for the the Streamer. Like the Spector it copied, its my idea of how a non-Fender looking bass should look

I tried a couple of Warwicks in SC Glasgow City Centre yesterday.afterwards I took away one of their printed catalogues and leafing through it it struck me how many shapes they do. I'm not asking which is best,or about woods or p/ups - more to do with the basic shape and aesthetics when viewed straight on from in front of it.so all Streamers whether they're BO or NT are lumped together and the same for each model I've listed all their main body shapes bar the signature and acoustic/EUB models. I also included the Fortress as its back as a Rock bass and was around a fair number of years in the 90's.
Very interestng, do you know when it's due to hit the shops? R.
The bass is due to debut at next months NAMM.no word beyond that I'm afraid.
I think a 3+2 tuner arrangement would look stylistically "wrong" on a MM bass, if only because the SR5 and Bongo 5 are both 4+1. Aesthetically, I reckon they'll keep it in the family, as it were. Furthermore, they'll probably be wanting to distance themselves from the 3+2 arrangement as one of their most similar competitors (G&L) use it.
you're right about the 3 + 2 I guess,I was hoping that when Sterling Ball said the headstock would be just big enough for the tuners to fit on they would maybe switch the D onto the other side of the head.still the Sterling 4 h/stock is noticeable smaller than a Ray's so I guess it'll be more of the same.

http://www.ernieball.com/forums/music-man-...-prototype.html yum yum! shame about the headstock shape/size not being finalised yet so I'm forgetting about the 20th SR5 neck on the end of this one. I think the Sterling shape suits being a 5 and I kind of like how its kept the look of the 4. apprently when the Sterling 5 is released the SR5 is reverting back to alnico magnets so the Sterling 4 + 5 = ceramic,Stingray 4 +5 = alnico. I can see a lot of SR5 players making the jump to this bass.what's the BC initial impressions? would you have liked no scratchplate or figured top? what about a 3+2 headstock?

The EVH guitar was the first MM with the oil finished neck in 1991.the others switched over sometime in '93 I believe nice bass!

I dont own a Jazz but if I did,I'd want it to look like this.candy apple red (a matching headstock would've made it perfect) http://perso.wanadoo.es/tallent/gear/pics/sale/BF2735.jpg or this. maybe shoreline gold?
