got one and GASsing for another with a rosewood board. but that white/maple like the one FS on here last week really does it for me lol I love the balanced tone all across the neck, really fat sounding too proper bass indeed!

Bolin NS5 & Valenti #042 (got from owen and traded back with owen as he missed it - really lovely piezo tone from this bass which sounded lush mixed with the EMG/ The Valenti went in a deal for the 3TS Stingray below. This bass is one of the true basschat whores - I had it for around 15 months and it was a real top flight super jazz imo) Spector NSCR5FM (i owned this for a while and it was a gorgeous 5 string. Crazykiwi now has this and he's improved it by all accounts. CK got it via john kemo who I did a deal with for the bongo 4HH below as I was getting pangs for one of those again Spector Euro 5 (bought new and sold to the donutman - another great example of the Czech made Spectors, the finish was like glass - it almost seemed too nice to play..almost) Bongo 4HS & '08 MIA Precision Std (Loved this Bongo, everything about it was spot on. The blizzard pearl Precision I kept strung with flatwounds and I only sold it to pay car repairs) Stingray 3EQ (I never really gelled with this bass for some reason, possibly because I got the flame topped L-2000 the same week and the G&L just killed it imo - hell of a looker though! jezzaboy took it off my hands) MIM 60's Classic Jazz (and I got this from jezzaboy in part-ex. This one had a varitone filter circuit fitted which I liked but not enough to stop me selling it ) G&L L-2000 & SB-2 ( This L-2000 with a J profile neck was bought from Geddys Nose and the SB-2 from BB2000. Sadly the SB-2 with the sick birdseye neck was sold in a moment of silliness last February to basschatter dcooper who lived local to me though I still have the L2K) Stingray 5 & Bongo 5 (I still own both these. This Bongo was traded with bigwan for my 4HH when we met at the Cairnryan ferry terminal,it a powerhouse of crushing tone. This Stingray 5, which is the 3rd one I've owned, is my favourite bass ever - it will go to my grave with me!)

These are the basses I've owned since 2005. Mostly Musicman & G&L, though I did dabble with some other brands for a bit. I have been mostly GAS free with what I have now for the last 18 months. Stingray 2EQ (bought from Mcormacks in Glasgow and I owned it 6 years. I swapped out the maple neck for a status graphite and then sold the bass to pay MOT costs. It was advertised on BC again just a few months back, this time with a rosewood board) G&L Tribute L2000 & L-1500 (MIK Tribute bought from jezzaboy and L1500 from stingray fan. I sold on both but ended up with the L1500 again and I still have it to this day) SUB (bought off a guy in Glasgow and sold onto ebay - really great bass for under 300 notes at the time) 2 x Sterlings (white sparkle Sterling went to wavydavy in a deal for the Valenti and the CAR one went to eubassix - both were stunning basses and I miss them both - I much prefer the necks and flexibility of these basses to a Stingray) Bongo 4HS (imported by me from the States. Power of ten now has this on the emerald isle. Loved what it could do but i just couldn't get on with the looks at the time and white just made it seem worse imo. Saying that though,I'd probably love it now ) G&L Asats (gold asat from Geddy's nose and I kept this a while and sold onto thebeat/semi hollow I got from power of ten and went to tonyf - both were lovely - I used the gold solid body in an INXS Tribute band and the semi hollow in a function band around the same time) Godlyke Disciple 5 (got this one from eubassix. really underrated bass, great EQ and tightness to the sound. workmanship was pretty flawless) Godlyke Deity fretless (beautiful fretless, set neck and light as a feather with a great range of tones. even better than the disciple 5. I just didn't have the chops to do it justice)
It's always a community forum until someone is happy to take a bass off someone for what was clearly a low price, Lots of people would just pull the thread and start a fresh one a few days after when seeing a similar bass go quickly for more where this is a transparent thread. Good luck it's looks really cool!
well said! gorgeous bass, wish I had something to trade for it
i went on their website and it showed them in both colours, anyone have any idea howmuch these are going to be, i think ill have to buy one of each and swap the necks round, and poss defet the RW one, mint green with a maple neck i have to have one (£1600 for the proper one is never going to happen for me) mind you if your going to need to get a nordstrand(fantastic by the way, my old sterling had one) and an east you may as well buy a full on ray classic.!!
+1 the wrong necks are on both colours. sunburst/rosewood is a nice combo, just not my thing but mint green with a tinted maple neck definitely is. I wonder if a shop that had stock of both would swap them out?

I'm having a clearout of music gear I no longer use in an effort to raise the funds for another SR5 (so love those basses ) first up is my Roland XP-10. Its more a rompler than a synth as it has limited programmability(filter and envelope mostly). Strong set of user sounds though. great for your everyday pianos.strings, pads etc has a morph function to move between two tones via slider, also split and dual tones as well. 128 presets and 256 user variation slots versatile arpeggiator comes with psu and manual, well looked after condition £120 no offers I'm in Ayrshire but could arrange meet in Glasgow. would rather not post http://www.vintagesynth.com/roland/xp10.php
Correction: The G&L neck is a *bit* chunkier than the SUB5 (no idea whether the SUB5 the SR5 use the same dimensions 'though). The difference is not very large, though. It's very comfortable for me. edit: I just noticed your location. If you're ever up here in the 'burgh and want to try it, you're welcome.
thanks for the info and kind offer of a tryout. I will definetely need to try one of these sometime.hopefully Guitar Guitar will have one in. I did once play an L-5500 in McCormacks a few years back but I think it may have had a different profile to the G&L 5 strings that followed. afaik the Sub5,SR5,Sterling 5 and Big AL 5 all have the same neck profile though I may well be wrong on that

Rich, is your bass running with the preamp on or bypassed?
That means I have 27 switching options where you only have 18. That means mine is betterer
haha betterer indeed!
It's early to say for certain, as I only played it 40min at first, anotehr 30min late last night and 10min this morning... so ask me after the weekend again But I feel the G&L has a similarly wide neck, but perhaps a bit shallower. They're not very far from eachother, that's for sure, but the g&L feels a bit nicer. It could be my impression because of the finish of teh SUB5 and the setup (rather low on this G&L)... So, I'll play with them more at the weekend and will report back... but they are not hugely different. If the SR5 is like the SUB5, dimension-wise, then the G&L won't feel alien. I find it very comfortable.
thanks for that. I always had the impression the G&Ls were a fair bit chunkier overall. I like the dimensions on the SR5 so the G&L may likely suit me

I personally love the switching on the Asats/L*** basses. I settled on about 3 or 4 tones with these basses a long time back so for me its almost second nature to flick between them. congrats on the L2500. I've never owned a G&L 5 string - how does the neck profile on yours compare to the SUB5? (which I guess is pretty much the same as my SR5 in profile) I'm keen on buying a G&L 5 string one day but haven't spent any time playing one to know how it'd compare neck wise to my MMs

any word on other colours or is it 3TSB only?

just imo but there's plenty of tonal variation in the 2 humbuckers and 4 band EQ and tbh I find the Bongo has too much on offer after playing my single H Stingray 5. The action on the 3 Bongos I've owned has always been lower than I can get on other basses making them slaptastic. The tone is just huge and much more hi-fi than of my other basses, and I couldn't be without it for recording . My one is a sapphire black 5HH and every second Bongo seems to be that finish. I've changed my opinion in the last few months and like them more now in the brighter colours like this one.
not heard of the 133s before. apart from the limited colours and eq is there any difference between these and the normal rays? As it happens I was after a blue one with a maple board and a 2 band eq. could be just the ticket at £400 quid less than the SR4 assumin everything else is the same.
these are just like any other 2EQ Stingray but you can only get them in black, candy red or pearl blue.I think you can get maple or rosewood board but no other options and they come with a MM gigbag instead of a case 133 is just the first part of strings and things order code iirc

G&L Pearl LE, Some dubious content as per the norm!
dub_junkie replied to stingrayPete1977's topic in Bass Guitars
I've really grown to love my '97 L-1500. For a while I thought the L2K was the only 4 string I needed and maybe the single pickup model was a bit surplus, but the 1500 has a unique tone all of its own. and sounds great in a band setting or mix. It cuts through better than the L2K (or any MM for that matter) and works perfect played fingerstyle or with a pick, just need to be careful with the active setting and treble control to tame the top end - a really underestimated bass imo re G&L in general, and just my take on it - why shouldn't they advertise the Leo Fender connection? Features like the MFD pickups,tri-tone preamp and saddlelock bridge were all Leo's designs afaik and still on their basses today. If they're not better known then t's a marketing thing imo but they seem happy to go along with their own business model. Their instruments do have a vibe you either 'get' or dont. I like the difference between them and MM and Fender. Choice is a good thing! -
I've wanted a white/maple Big AL 4 SSS since I first saw them. fingers crossed hopefully next year!
When I woke up this morning I had absolutely no plans whatsoever to buy a bass..... 10 hours later now & I'm the proud owner of this: Double first for me - my first 5 string bass & my first Musicman. It looks like Candy Apple Red in the photo but it's actually a lot darker, sort of a metallic burgundy. Lovely bass, and after 2 years of playing nothing but my Zons it feels very....woody.
This I like!

Sale or Trade - Musicman USA Sterling Fretless

Could maybe be poplar. it was listed along with ash and alder before they changed the description to ' select hardwoods' this blueburst finish is only found on the Steve Morse guitar nowadays and thats poplar. some of the blueburst basses (and guitars) I've seen have a greenish tinge in parts of the grain. I had a SR5 in the same colour years ago, loved it and I do wish I had the funds to buy this one.

What to do when you find yourself a little 'bored' with Fenders? play Musicman and G&L! -
I dont think i seen a G&L 2000 there and i dont know anyone with one i dont think
I've got a L-2000 you're welcome to give a try. It was ordered with their #8 neck which is pretty much identical to a jazz (1.5" nut) My L-1500 has the normal L-1500/L-2000 neck (1.75" nut) You're welcome to try that one too. I'm in Kilmarnock so just a 10 minute hop in the car. Let me know if you want to try them cheers Keir
Alas I keep forgetting! It is beaaaaautiful!
I've no doubt it is. there's just something about the shape, the neck and tone of the SR5s and the way they play that I love more than any other bass. I've always been happy with the single H but I'd love to try an HS for comparisons sake. I could live without the humbucker in series for the extra tones I could get from the single coil I'm definetely after another, this time with a rosewood board. I'll likely need to sell the L2K to fund it but it'll be worth it as I'm happiest playing my SR5

good you found the G&L(s)you were after a wee while back
