1. you are buying some great musicmans at the moment. this is another one imo. the wait on all three will be worth it!
2. are you going to change your order and go with the Big AL 5? I owned an Albert Lee guitar for a few years. great shape imo. they've discontinued the ice blue now but I guess I'll take whatever I can when the exchange rate gets better and I can import a used one.
3. I had a go on this one too and loved it. beautiful neck with great tone - one of the nicest basses I ever played.
4. the Axis Sport is a fair bit overpriced as well. probably of all the MM guitars the Sports held their value the worst - I've owned three of these - still got one of them - an HSS with the pickguard and two MM90s Sports with the P90 pickups, both without the guard and they all cost £550 or under. I've seen a lot of regular Axis and Supersports with quilt/flame tops for less.
5. that trans purple is a great looking SR5. anodised gold would work (I think) but +1 on pearloid just to be safe
6. very nice Joe. isnt it just an ebony facing on the headstock? I had one of these for a week on trial about 10 years ago. loved the really tight compressed tone off it,would have traded my SS1 I had at the time against it but alas the deal didnt go through. always had a hankering for one ever since. if you ever want to move it on to a loving home let me know!
7. I normally prefer rosewood boards but with white its maple. I'd love to own one just like this someday I dont think it would look so good on the HS though with the black pickup covers I think the rosewood boards look great with sunburst, especially with a matching headstock. have you already discounted tobacco burst and honeyburst? out of your two options I'd have the 3TS/rosewood/tort/non matching. sorry never been a fan of white/rosewood

9. yes I did get it from Si in June of last year. I had an Asat off him before this L2K. he's a man who definetely knows his G&Ls re the avatar,G&L FTW!
10. yes USA model with CLF serial # you cant get the J neck option on Tributes either
11. still looking for some sort of deal against a SR5 or L-2500. will consider other 5 strings
12. super price for this tone monster of a bass!
13. vol/vol the idea behind the SB-2 layout is to use the single coil at the bridge as a sort of tone control to colour the split P
14. Stingray 5 has a great low B,real comfy neck profile and feel,is warm fat and punchy sounding all at the same time and blends in with everything. Leave the switch on the parallel setting, add a little bit of bass boost and forget about the controls after that. imo an easy bass to love for its simplicity and for doing what it does so well without fuss.
15. G&L L-1500. harsh and right in your face. much more so then the L-2000/Asats.
16. nice bass! - the first pic is the best I've seen so far of one of these - the build quality looks very good.
17.
Am I the only one that thinks they look better in a 5 or 6 than a 4? I sold my 5. I can't remember why: all this has made me rather nostalgic. They're great basses, with the afore-mentioned caveat that they'll get a chip on the headstock. I'm still waiting for the ad in the for sale section that says "for sale, bongo, unique, no chip on headstock". Gone the way of the warrior...:
I'm pretty sure I have your Bongo 5 these days. It came to me in a trade deal with bigwan for a 4HH also sapphire black with moonstone PG.
18. For trade : L2K amber/honey alder body with flame maple top and (rarer for L-2000) #8 jazz profile neck (1.5" nut). weighs 9lb, great player, comes with G&L hard case (bit scuffed) only issue is a wear patch on the back of the neck up around the 3rd fret I've recently had another rethink on my gear and decided to try and stick with 5 strings only. Looking to do a deal for a fretted SR5 or L-2500. I prefer rosewood boards and will add cash for the right bass edit: will consider other five strings though not so keen on 5 strings with 19mm spacing I'm not really interested in a sale at this point can get more pics if of genuine interest
19. I've had 3 Bongos (got a 5HH and used to own a 4HS and a 4HH). I find them very inspiring to play with a great range of (modern) tones but I still, and will always prefer my Stingray 5. It has a lovely growl and warmth to the sound, sadly lacking in the Bongo which sounds hi-fi by comparison. I do a fair bit of recording with my Bongo and its excellent for that, but the very few times I gigged one weren't exactly "plug in and play" if I'm honest.Boomy, overpowering, endless fiddling with pan and EQ - all just a bit too much really So it stays at home.

G&L JB2

I've not seen more than a couple of JB-2s on basschat. I cant recall any Tributes on here of late but there was a silver flake USA one on sale a couple of months back. belonged to Mansfield, maybe best giving him a PM? Theres a number of JB2 players on talkbass. do a search there and you'll probably get the info you need fwiw I have a L-2000 (and recently sold a SB-2) with the same neck as the JB-2. I find them really playable, very much like a jazz bass or MusicMan Sterling. The Tribute JB-2 has the same neck profile as far as I know. I'm not familiar with the JB-2 though I wanted one for a long time - I think the alnico pickups would make a nice change from the MFDs on all their other basses. Looking at the website it says that both Tribute finish options use swamp ash for the body. any USA G&Ls I've owned and were ash tended to be quite heavy but I'm not sure if thats the same with the offshore ones. I used to own a Korean made ash body L-2000 which was nice and light and after a set up,played every bit as good as a USA one imo a real nice alternative to a Fender Jazz
