1. I've never had a hankering for a Classic Sterling or Reflex but the Big Al and especially the classic Sabre were both on my to buy list. Hoping there's enough around used by the time I do get some scratch together
2. According to the 'what colour is this?'thread in the ernie ball forums, your bass looks like Stratus Blue Sparkle. I used to have a white Sparkle Sterling 4H and I now have a Silhouette bass guitar in Blue Dawn which is a sparkle blue finish. I think there's a Stingray 4 in this finish for sale on these boards at the moment.
3. cheapest Big Al I've seen. Lovely!
4. Simon Atkinson & The Foundryman's Apprentice @ Wickerman Festival, main acoustic stage @ 3.30pm on Friday 24th July Pop by and say hello :-) Keir
5. Maybe a Boss RV5 for the modulation setting? I've owned a couple of thoseand regretted selling them afterwards both times. It was only the purchase of a Hardwire Supernatural which stopped me from missing the RV5. I use the supernatural on my guitar board but I do put my musicman silhouette baritone/bass guitar through it and it sounds brilliant. apart from a spring and plate it has some really great ethereal ambient shimmer type settings.
6. PM'd
7. http://www.music-man.com/instruments/basses/classic-stingray-4.html I quite like the trans blue and in that pic it does look like teal in its bluer moments. (Loved how teal went from green to blue depending on lighting) but I can't understand there being Pacific Blue burst in the classic colours. Looks more of a G&L colour and is still in the current colour options on the regular Stingrays and Sterlings. Would much prefer to see the original trans blueburst which is lighter than the current Morse blueburst. If they ever did a Sabre Classic in the original blueburst with the birdseye neck I doubt I could do anything but succumb to GAS.
8. This is the exact same fretless model as mine. Apart from liking the jumbo body which gives it a big acoustic sound and the lovely woods throughout, I think a few of the features really add up to a quality, well thought out instrument eg the bridge truss system, the side soundhole and the LR Baggs preamp. The case is a real quality job too. I paid double for a new one what's being asked here and I had a couple of hundred off the rrp. Absolute bargain!
9.
Lovely stuff - is that chap to your left playing some kind of electric mandolin?
Hi yes it's an electric Mandolin called a Mandocaster. The other instrument on extreme left is a bouzouki
10. One of two gigging bands I play with. This was filmed at the Celtic Connections festival,Danny Kyle stage at the Glasgow Royal Concert hall at the end of January this year. I'm using the USA Ovation Elite bass I bought off Scooby on here a while back.
11. If you end up going for an unlined board think about where you want the side dots. some bass have side dots where they normally are on a fretted bass so you played in front of the dots where the frets would be. On others (my current fretless included) the dots are on the fretlines which for me is easier to get my head (and fingers) around.
12. Owning a Breedlove acoustic bass myself, albeit a different model in fretless guise, I too spent an age before plumping for the Breedlove. I can attest to the quality tone both plugged in and as a pure acoustic and the quality of fit and finish for its price point. GLWTS!
13. that's a huge amount of USA bass for the money. These are brilliant and with the tone mod it should appeal to those who find the stock vol/vol a bit quirky. I often regret selling my SB-2 and if I had the cash for this I would jump in especially in this colour combo. so tempting...... GLWTS
14. Met Ian at Costa in East Kilbride this afternoon and traded my Fender MIJ Jaguar dlx bass for his Takamine EN30C electro-acoustic guitar. Spent at least an hour chatting over coffee as we did the trade. Good to meet you Ian and thanks for a mutually beneficial trade. So a big +1 for ShabbS,yet another basschatter I've met who's a credit to this forum
15. This just arrived !! Tuned E-E in the same octave as a regular bass E-A-D-G-B-E. the scale length is 29 5/8". Strings are 20-30-42-54-74-90 (all wound) With some fettling the guitar could also be tuned A-A as a baritone guitar with 13p-18p-30w-44w-56w-72w strings pickups are DiMarzio split humbucking and the front pot is a rotary selector for parallel/series together with the 5 way switch giving 10 pickup combinations. The Blue Dawn finish is more sparkly than it looks in the pictures. Can't stop playing this thing today! 16. Breedlove Atlas Solo fretless, Ovation B768 Elite bass, Fender MIJ Jaguar Dlx, Musicman 2EQ Stingray, G&L Tribute L-2000
17. I'm on my third Tribute L-2000 which is blueburst/maple.Lovely thing it is too! I've moved away from five strings but if I ever decide (or have a requirement) to start playing one again, and I couldn't afford a used Stingray 5,I would likely go for a Tribute L-2500.
18. Currently five: EBMM 2EQ Stingray Fender deluxe Jaguar bass G&L Tribute L-2000 Ovation USA B768 Elite electro/acoustic Breedlove Atlas Solo Fretless electro/acoustic
19. I've just started looking at options for a nice electro acoustic in the fairly near future and then this comes up when I'm in waist deep in the mire of financial embarrassment paying for far more mundane things. what are you looking/hoping to trade the Takamine for?
20. I got a sunburst one of these a few months back and I have got the neck so playable on mine it has now become my 'go to' bass. The placement of the bridge J pickup has been a bit of a revelation for me. At first I thought it had too much bite but I now love playing fingerstyle over that pickup solo'd. Wonderful basses imo. GLWTS
21.
If I was to buy anything else it would be a USA stingray, nothing else I've played compares to it, they play and sound amazing. The USA 5's have a little more tonal variety too with the coil tap switch. What sort of music are you playing??
this is all true. Fantastic fat tone that sits perfectly in a mix with even speak across the board. A pro workhorse bass imo and I would without second thought, buy an SR5 irrespective of the music genre to be played. I have owned a few SR5's in the past and would buy another if I ever decide to go back to playing a five again.
22. Bought a Mooer Mod Factory pedal from Rich. Sent pedal before payment cleared, Would have no hesitation in dealing with him again.
23. http://www.thomann.de/gb/gl_tribute_asat_special_ts.htm There's also the G&L Asat Special at Thomann. The butterscotch blonde Asat Classic should be back up on their website too in the next few days as they were expecting stock again mid December These may be worth looking into as alternatives to the Squier. The Special is 30% off at the moment. I think the Classics were the same before they went out of stock. I've just sold an Epiphone Les Paul to hopefully buy either a Special or Classic over the coming days.
24. I like the trans gold I have a bit of a thing for the USA Sterling basses. I don't have one at the moment but have owned three in the past. My absolute most favourite bass neck shape. Great bass!
