  1. I played a fairly large outdoor gig before lockdown where the hired "professional" PA company "mic'd" my cabinet. With an SM57, a good 15" away from the cabinet edge, off axis. I wished that they had DI'd, especially as I had clearly explained why the DI would be a better option. I forget the name of the PA company, maybe that's not a bad thing. Don't even get me started on their "IEM" mixes lol..
  2. That's a great spec' and pretty much what I would be asking for too! Congratulations, it's going to be a top notch bass!
  3. In a weird way, I actually like it. Not sure what that says about me, but I'm open to seeing if its something you can just spin round in your lap at an acoustic gig and be playing guitar or bass. - I've played quite a lot of acoustic gigs where space was such a premium that we had nowhere to stand instruments when they weren't being actually played!
  4. Good lord! It’s a real unicorn! I’ve never played through one but the legend is strong!
  5. Yup! Solder both conductors to the Tip. For extra measures solder the Ring to the Shield.
  6. You can do that, or make use of it and solder it to the other signal conductor. - in fact, if you can get in to the stereo jack , just solder the Shield and the Ring together with a blob of solder at both ends and you won't even need to buy Mono jacks.
  7. Blimey, how did I miss that! (for more reasons than one!!)
  8. I’m with Bob, it depends on the colour of the bass. Still can’t understand why we’ve not perfected white hardware yet. It’s been about 30 years since I first asked why it hasn’t happened yet 🤣
  9. Jon Shuker is incredible, one of the very best. That’s a beautiful example of his work right there!

Can you bump statuses? Let’s find out.

  11. I'll share the link as a status too as I am sure we could all do with a bit of inspiration right now eh? I've not hit play on it for a while so I think I'll be doing that next!
  12. No problem! It's a collaborative playlist so if anyone has missed a great example, it can be added too!
  13. Not sure about this FMT, but has the more usual Fender headstock.
  14. If only Fender had released a hollow bodied bass in the past.... #FenderHMT

  16. Thank you yes! Click on my signature link!
  17. You know me SO well!! Good lord it would look great set next to all my other colour flip basses! I've some new paints lined up for any instrument that arrives at Door Towers that doesn't have a flip finish ha ha! Sadly, right now I'd be lucky to afford the case let alone the beautiful bass.
  18. Disturbed. awwww wah ah ah ah!
  19. There are, in this world, few people I would trust to look after one of my basses whilst I was away. Gamble is on this list.
  20. Queen - Live At Wembley ‘86 Tape, “off the board” recordings, CD, VHS, DVD, Anniversary DVD... From a teenager and onwards this album has quite literally been my bible. I have learned so much about my music craft from watching this concert. Song writing, stage craft, making recorded songs work on stage etc etc, it’s all there. Right now, Devin Townsend is getting a good spin on my BluRay as is Gojira.
  21. The SC Preamp is really rather good! Sadly lockdown meant I’ve not been able to try it with a double bass, but I recorded my review with a piezo equipped (prototype) Gillett Guitars fretless 5 string - and it never sounded better.
  22. I miss mine.
  23. The Orange Bass Butler is capable of some searing distortion but it is also another pedal that can be wound back to "vintage valve amp" territory. Its a physically much larger pedal, but it sounds super nice. GR Bass is another brand to look at. They have a Pure Drive pedal with some helpful EQ on board. Finally, EBS again, their MicroBass 3 has two channels that can be blended together both with their own EQs. Channel one features an entire gain section where Channel two is capable of some super clean, high headroom fatness. Blend to taste, very nice!
  24. Ahh, you mean the stand-alone review and also the tech session with the Tech 21 combo? Sadly I had to give the DP3X back. I'm actually hoping the SH is still at the studio because I want to play with THAT one again too!
