hmm, bobfoc.
I laughed out loud! There's a phrase I haven't heard for a while. Lovin' the P bass though

Hmmm - definitely interested in A/Bing one out of sheer interest. It puts up a good argument for it thats for sure.

Basschat, you done me proud - saved me doing any moderating this afternoon. Best (anti troll) forum on the web.

Wow! FIVE threads on the go - maaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaan are you ALL bored today? ha ha ha ha!!! Tell ya what, if I needed to advertise a product or service - I'm going with Dave's *method!! *except for alienating myself completely and diluting any creedance to my opinions in one post. lolz
There are a lot of guitar teachers who also advertise bass lessons, and I would suspect that the majority of these aren't "real bassists".
I fear this is a big part of the problem. Guitarists teaching Bass to me is akin to a harp player teaching piano. As far as I am aware, there is/was just one 'proper' Bass teacher in Norwich. - I'd like to be proved otherwise - but I *hope* that when I start teaching in the area, Bass Players won't be put off by the fact that they *may* have been taught by tutors who haven't spent a considerable amount of time studying / playing the instrument they are actually teaching. I've been playing for over 20 years now.
Spin off thread frenzy!!
In a crazy 'Joanie Loves Chachi' sort of way lol.. tenuous eh!

Godwin's Law finally made it!

Considering most Bass Players these days are likely to have some sort of back problem, lightweight gear is certainly a very attractive option. The quality of equipment these days is so much better for the money - so unless you really dig the bottom of the barrel, most kit is fairly worthy of the road.
-
[/subscribed] bored already. Heed my advice Dave.

I will be too - I'll be having a moment of silence in respect. RIP my friend x

- I'm actually a big fan of the SVT 2 Pro - I owned one for many years and ran it in to two Hartke 4.5XL cabs. Yes, it was an awesome awesome tone - I don't deny that one bit - but the weight of the rig was a nightmare for a busy bass player. I can get an equally good tone from other non-valve or non-Ampeg gear which by luck also happens to be a fraction of the weight! Nice!
As predicted, .... {snipped}
If you predicted such a response, then you knew that what you were posting was designed to be inflammatory. We all enjoy a good laugh - and yes, we're definitely having one - though probably at your expense. I don't believe for one second that you truly believe what you are saying and think you are just trolling for effect. Unfortunately for you, as you will find - history has shown that BassChatters being the friendly bunch they are, take exception to trolling. You're probably gonna find that you will be starting off on the wrong foot! If you want a balanced discussion - why not give us a bit more background about yourself and how your experiences give you such a strong feeling that your Ampeg is the best in the world? You'll get a much better reply if you want to discuss something in an adult fashion rather than wading in telling us what you think and that our opinions are null.
-
I think this brings in to question what is 'valve tone'? (refering to what the amplifier sounds like specifically, not how it 'feels' to play which isn't in discussion here). Certainly we have seen blind tests here and on TalkBass where people are unable to tell the difference between a valve head and a solidstate one - so to say that all valve heads sound better (as an example) is a bit pointless, unless you strap 'IMO' on the end of your sentence
-
Many people on these forums seem to be kidding themselves, and others, by pretending you can get 'that' tone out of these little bass heads or portable combos. YOU CAN'T I'M AFRAID!
Well there ya go. We have been told!

There's this thread in the Groove Library forum http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=44883
I'm pretty sure it is. Unless you play stadiums without PA support, this amp has enough power...
Hmmmm! Interesting! I'd be interested to hear how it fairs up against a very loud band. I've done pretty well so far to not GAS for one of these!

If you have a need to drop tune, then yes they are absolutely brilliant! - Actually, scrub that! When you get one, you'll want to drop tune! They are brilliant gadgets when set up properly. I had one on a 4 string for several years - until I started playing a 6er instead. There is the arguement 'oh why don't you just tune down between songs' - yeah, that's fine too.. but I like gadgets
The guitard and myself stalk as a pair. The Holmes and Watson of the sorry business if you like
ha ha ha ha!!!
I'm always gear spotting at gigs. It's just another form of geekery
Yup, same 'ere. It's not just Bass gear either. I was a 'shred' guitarist for about 5 years too and LOVE guitar gear too... oh and drums. Drum hardware is cool! I could ramble on all day with anyone who has an interest in 'techy geeky music stuff'!

The East Anglian Bass Bash details are as follows: Sunday 9th January 2011 http://www.slepehallhotel.co.uk/ Slepe Hall Hotel, Ramsey Road, St Ives, Cambridgeshire, PE27 5RB Pictures of the room in post 91, link here: http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=...t&p=1019241 Directions are on this page: http://www.slepehallhotel.co.uk/the-hotel/...-directions.asp
From the A14, exit at junction 26 following signs for St Ives (A1096). Continue on the A1096 for 1.5 miles going straight on over 3 roundabouts until you see the Silvaco building. Turn left at the Silvaco roundabout onto the A1123. Continue over the next roundabout onto St Audrey's Lane. At the main set of traffic lights (by the Toyota dealership and the Seven Wives pub), turn left onto Ramsey Road. Slepe Hall Hotel is on the left hand side after approx. 500 yards.
Google Maps link: http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?f=q&q=pe27+5rb&z=11 The hire of the hall is £200 for the whole day which is great! - The venue requires payment up front - We therefore need twenty people (or more) to pay the £10 entrance fee up in advance, so that we can have the building. I'm definitely paying in advance, as I think the Bash is going to be a great success. Person to rececive the cash to be arranged. In the meantime, if you are happy to pay in advance, PLEASE add your name to the list at the end of the thread. I am hoping that we are going to get lots of you coming along - so any proceeds left after the venue has been paid for, will go to the following charity: Nordoff Robbins: Music Transforming Lives **************************************************************************************************** *************************** Old post for info: A small discussion has started in a thread about having an East Anglia Bass Bash. (here: http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=...p;#entry939960) I'm just posting here to get an idea about who may be interested and to continue the discussion. I know what a b@ll@che it is to get out of Norwich and am sure there are plenty of Bass Players who have turned down some of the other bashes because they are further afield. We have some good resources nearby and am wondering if Cambridge might be a good place to host? Just a few ideas - lemme know your thoughts. I'm looking forward to the next BIG bash as well - I'll certainly be attending, if I can!
-
I too wish you the best of luck with the future. We'll still be here, so please pop in for a lurk every now and then! You'll be most welcome. We might even manage to sell you a Bass again!!! All the best to ya, D
-
I've no idea if using such materials will make a great cabinet or not - but I'd defintely subscribe to the build diary! Sounds like an interesting project!
-
Ok, cheeky one here... It's a live fretless solo in a song that was originally recorded with a synth bass, I believe. I just think it's a wicked fretless tone and a nice tastey solo! fast forward to 4 minutes for the solo if you aren't a fan of the track!
i can pretty much agree with all the above comments, and to beef up your sound, this is the exact thing! i use a sansamp rpm through a power section, slightly more versatile than the vt bass but i've hear great things about the pedal - just watch out on the vt cause it has the speaker emulation perminantly on! the rpm is the single biggest improvement in my sound i've ever had! note - my setting is pretty much the svt setting anyway, so probably sounds just like the vt bass, i just like it being all neat and in a rack!
I've the pedal equivalent to the RPM, the ParaDriver. It's a brilliant piece of kit!
