You can find me on Twitter, Facebook, Youtube and Soundcloud as DoodOnBass. My soundcloud doesn't have anything on it yet, but I have quite an exciting band on the way that will no doubt make full use of my currently empty profile!

How was the low end in comparison to the Aggie Mr.F?

On the subject of phasing, (expecting that all of the speakers are running full range and not crossed over) i wonder how many would actually notice that on paper at least the 'design is flawed'. Frankly, with years of 4x10 and 'non-audiophile' bass rigs, I don't think most would notice. Infact, it might make a nice sound. I'd like to hear it too.

Surprisingly though, Tec Amp are well known for using the best speakers they can get their hands on for speaker cabinets. B&C cones go in to these I believe. I've owned Tec' predecessor cabs and they sound amazing. Thomas Eich, owner rebadged the old Tech SoundSystems company to Tec Amp with a complete facelift for the product line. Shame really, as i loved the old design! Tec do some nice kit. I'd be rather happy to own one of their cabs ;0)

Hi all! I bought this pedal from mcnach recently in an effort to find a 'band pass' distortion pedal that i could use instead of my Ampeg BSP rack. Whereas it is a superb pedal, it's not quite what I was after (needed to test with my signal path) and thus would like to pop it back up for sale. Mcnach looked after it very well and thus there's not a mark on it. I've had it out the box in my front room a few times to compare to my BSP, so back in the bags and box it goes, with all the manuals etc. I ship insured and will be happy to despatch in the UK for £50 all in. I believe this is a 'rip your arm off' bargain. Check out the ashdown videos for what the pedal sounds and looks like. I may take trades for the right distortion pedal. I just need to figure out what the 'right' one is Drop me a PM and I will get the pedal out to you. Doooooood

I've just advertised my spare FC-50 MIDI controller for sale for £55/delivered. It's built like a brick out house and will give you access to those patches. The FC-50 I am keeping is doing the same job with TC effects unit. PM me and we can sort something out sir!

Innovative Acoustic Bass Guitar With Ergonomic Features
Dood replied to Michael Gillett's topic in General Discussion
I'd be happy to volunteer. Do you have a preferred email address to send information to? I also write the Bass department for Guitar Interactive Magazine over at www.iGuitarMag.com. One of the largest online guitar magazines. -
This is where I saw the comment: http://www.jamirotalk.net/interviews/paul.html
Pasting the comment for visibility: Do you have preference between 4 or 5 string bass’? Paul: I do think 4s usually sound better. The E on a 5 doesn’t sound as good. Period. However I like playing 5 and enjoy having the option of the extra range of low notes without detuning.

Hi All! So, a little while back I asked for a MIDI controller in the wanted section and was pretty chuffed with the amount of responses I got. Infact, in a strange turn of circumstances, buying and selling a few bits and pieces I have ended up with two FC-50 pedals! Thornybank here on the forum sold me one that I am hanging on to and the other is now surplus to requirement. I'll get some pictures up later. I've tested it and it works perfectly. It does have the odd sign of wear and tear though. That's to be expected for something that lives underfoot. I know that these things are bullet proof though. I owned an FC200 for a long while and it never had any issues at all. The FC-50 runs off a normal adaptor OR batteries!! Which is great news! To see what it is capable of (including MIDI patch/bank selection and adding external expression pedals / foot switches) here is the manual: ftp://ftp.roland.co....01_FC-50_OM.pdf £55 delivered in the UK / insured shipping. Do we know what interview this was? If not, then I'll ask him in a bit.

Paul Turner is a great guy and awesome bass player, but I have to say - unless it has been quoted out of context (I mean I'm sure there is more to his point than that?) I'd have to disagree. In terms of say a bass having pickups or electronics that might favour a B string rather than an E (I.e. the centre frequency of the bass boost, for example) then maybe that would be the case. I'd expect any quality 5 string bass to have a good strong response across all the strings in comparison to an equivalent 4 string. Certainly my pair of Shukers and a new six string I have picked up have a brilliant balance in tone and volume of each of the strings. I'd like to hear more about what he meant.

The 14mm string spacing seems ridiculous, but it's 'shredtastic'. String skipping and sweep picking is effortless as well as extended chords and Ellefson style bass lines. I'm pretty chuffed with the range of tones from the bass too. It's very different from my EMG electronics that's for sure. It's a fairly light bass, very well balanced and very well presented straight out the included 'luxury' hard case with an embroided logo on the outside. The bass has a set of Elixir strings on too and comes with all the usual case goodies, so all in all a great bit of kit. I love the ultra light tuning keys and small headstock keeping 'nose diving' to a minimum. Ultimately, it's not a patch on my Shuker 6, but it's going to be a really useable second bass - until such times as I have a Shuker 6 string ... with a 14mm spacing!!

Ha ha!! That's really funny! Bless 'em! - I don't want to derail the thread , so Dave, if you could send me a PM / screen print of the offending search box you mean then I will let them know! When I say 'know' I mean berate them seriously for not knowing how to spell the name of the most important instrument on the planet ;o)
Dood, Take a look at just about any daily newspaper website to see how to deliver a publication in a manner better suited to the web. You get the same information as in the printed edition, but one version has been laid out to work best on paper and the other designed to be viewed on-screen. The delivery system used by iGuitarMag and every other musical instrument magazine that I've seen on-line are ones which have been created to allow publishers of printed magazines quickly and easily re-purpose them to deliver via the internet. However if your publication doesn't have a physical printed version then there's no reason to be constrained by things like fixed page size for instance when these things become irrelevant when there is no longer a physical page. Also once you stop using these types of delivery system and build your magazine using normal web standards you no longer have to worry about having to create a separate version for iPads etc. I could go on more, but since working on stuff like this is part of how I make my living I don't want to give away all my knowledge for free. If IGuitarMag or any of the other on-line magazines want to pay me for my consultation and advice then they can PM me via this site.
I can only assume at this point that they haven't had too many complaints from the 100,000+ subscribers (not including those who read the mag but don't subscribe) - I can't answer that, but it's a format that certainly seems to work for those enjoying it, but I'll forward your comments if you wish ;o)
Maybe I'm being dumb but I couldnt find much bass content on that link apart from the spector/dingwall review and a bit about Doug Wimbish ? I'm a web programmer and I didnt think it was all that bad design-wise - perhaps a little too columnar. Id have liked to see it accessed via cascading menus to make it less busy. Audio coming out of your browser is a big problem for those of us who are reading at lunchtimes at work. Disturbs the other sheep - perhaps your developers could fix this to mute by default? @Dood
Click the button that says 'Read It For Free' - you'll be taken to the full magazine! - There's plenty more to read. Don't forget to subscribe. As for sound - Most newer PC laptops and Macs have a mute button so you can choose for yourself ;o)
