what size kit does your drummer use/ sensible volume
Dood replied to bassjim's topic in General Discussion
I played with a very talented drummer for many years. He had a beautiful and massive gleaming white kit that sounded amazing. What was even better is that he knew what construction of kit would give an amazing sound but was actually quieter than a standard 'live' kit. His choices of heads and cymbals meant that he wasn't over powering the mix, but also when we balanced our on stage volume, it was never deafening. His technique was superb too and would have no problems controlling his volume around the kit either. Come to think of it, my current drummers(s) are amazing too! -
Punch is usually a boosted range of frequencies around the 100-150hz range that gives bass guitar notes mass, tonally speaking. It's not the same as everything below those frequencies which tends to be the real low end and down in to the subs, but it's a bit like the thump you get from a kick drum. Through a big PA at a gig, it's that feeling when the bass 'punches' you in the middle. That's how I'd describe it anyway.
It's not just a hobby to me, it influences every single day of my life. That isn't just playing, it is buying vinyl, going to see live bands, researching bands, bass, guitar, etc....the whole lot. {snip} No one should ever stop you doing something you love. Music is THE BEST stress reliever IMO, even beats running and exercise.
I just wanted to quote this, because that's me. Music, Guitars, Drums, Music Software, Electronics, Playing, Seeing people play, Learning Music, Teaching Music, Reviewing gear, Everything, EVERYTHING. I'm totally consumed by it and wanting to know more about it all. You are quite right, no one should stop you from doing something you love. Especially when it's what you do to keep a roof over the heads of your family. -
where are you dood? You're more than welcome to come and try my SH. I'm in Deal, Kent
Well that is a very kind offer indeed! I'm actually up near Norwich but my OH has friends in Kent. Should we be making it down your way and I'm allowed to break away for some bass time then that's an offer I'd love to take up! Thank you! -
Try a Classic 50s as well if you like a chunky neck!
I think, though I'm not sure, I want to stay around the 42mm nut width. Maybe I need to try more before making that a definite. Which is an odd thing as my 7 string is obviously massive in comparison. It's the string spacing in particular. -
.... I assumed it was about Basschat flavour of the month rather than popularity in the whole wide world.
;0) Keeping the love alive.

Yes, I can't say I get compliments about my own sounds and looks! How do you get on with the neck? I've a hankering for a nice chunky bass neck! -
Well if you don't mind slumming it with a Squier there's a Mike Dirnt in Swaffham on one of the facebook selling pages .
Hey Painy! Yes, I'd spotted that one - I'm not sure if they have exactly the same necks. I suspect not. I've got a whole bunch of measurements from Fender but want to know what they feel like in hand ya see -
Dude! Insane. I'm also short on money so I'm not gonna be able to "keep it in the family", mate... Excuse me for not visiting this forum that much, maybe it has been discussed in the past and I have no clue and yada yada, but... Is it allowed to do a lottery over here? Like 220 spots/numbers, 10 pounds each. Everyone over here choose one or more numbers between 1-220, the peeps pay for the chosen numbers, you put the peeps names on a list in the 1st post, fill your magic hat with 220 small numbered paper bits, when all slots are filled (and you have your 2200 pounds) you draw one small numbered paper bit from your magic hat and the number on the small numbered paper bit will be the winner. Not allowed? Ok then.
It IS insane and it doesn't fill me with joy faced with selling either, but needs must. Unless I can sell everything else and a kidney first! Yeah, I did actually joke earlier on in the sale thread that if I had 50p for each view of this thread I could afford to give the bass away, but alas, auctions are a no-no on BassChat. Great to see you on BC buddy. You're a legend. We should totally be in a band together
I went with Barefaced, although not 2 10's. I've got a Big Baby and a Super Compact. As yet I've not gigged the Compact but the BB has been impressive.
The Barefaced would be my recommendation but I realise that the OP was looking for a 'budget' conscious offering. I'd certainly say it's worth saving up for the BB(2) or in my case, I went with the Big Twin II. My back is SO happy now, even climbing winding stairwells!

But, where I live, that's a bit like asking to pet a unicorn. I'm doing a bit of bass related research and these two neck profiles keep popping up on my radar, but alas I've never had the chance to try them out. Asking for experiences I know will help, but as always I need to get them in my own hands to try them. Finding one is difficult, but both in the same place at the same time!! Ahhhhh!!! ha ha!! It's all fun isn't it!?
Cheers guys , I understand reaper is not supported , but if I know what I need to do its not so bad , learning how to faff around each time is a total PITA, especially as I want to play with my new toys , not spend 2 hours trying to open the box
I've not had any problems at all on the Mac. 64bit Reaper version if that's any help?
Shuker. John Shuker was all the rage when I joined Basschat, but then seemed to lose momentum.
Ha ha! You might wanna ask Jon about that, he's never been so busy I reckon! Have you seen the amount of orders he's produced recently single-handedly? - and every instrument is absolutely stunning! I'd say that Shuker was also THE big rage right back at the dawn of time, which we know was called 'Bassworld v.1' Still going strong!

Well, this really doesn't fill me with much joy. As you'll know from my other adverts I need to sell kit that I really do not want to sell in order to pay some bills. This is the latest item and I am dipping in to kit I need rather than kit I like having. So, the price is set low to sell faster. The cheapest price you'll get on of these online new is £765 and despite a couple of scratches on the lid where I caught the amp coming out of a rack, this unit is as new. Alas, it has played just one gig (as seen on Instagram) - the rest of the time it has sat in my room looking all impressive. My original plan was to get a second Barefaced and run stereo, but car bills have got the better of me. £500 This QSC is probably my favourite power amplifier ever. Using a THUMPINATOR? No need, the DSP has a 24db/Oct adjustable HPF. - Want to use a seperate EQ for your cabinets but not your DI? Look no further. Want an amp that you can SET THE OUTPUT POWER? Yup, you can set the limiter to an output 'wattage' thus looking after your speakers if you feel that you need to. As soon as I have covered my bills I will retract anything that hasn't sold. Collection from near Norwich or postage is possible.
I'm looking at pairing 2 x 210's up with a recently purchased TC BH550. So far I've considered the Fender Rumble 210's and the TC K-210's. Portability and weight are of the upmost importance due to a dodgy back. Would love to hear of any more suggestions. Also looking to buy used. Thanks!
The TC K Cabs are a very nice pairing for both of the BH amplifier heads. I recently reviewed the entire range of K cabs with a BH head. For the price they are very good. The cabinets are very well made too and feature Lavoce drivers which aren't cheap tat at all. I'm surprised that there isn't more chat about them here on BC.
Cheers gents. I do like the Glock and Delano preamps that I've heard. Haven't seen Delano soapbars though - could be a gooden. Fine with the narrow spacing? Reasonable?
Yes, like the DCB, the SBC pickups use rails rather than pole pieces so string spacing isn't a problem. The 5 string Driver model is the same size as the MK1. The Delano pups are very nice. I'm usually an EMGer but you won't find a Bart shaped stock EMG, but the Aguilar is, really is a super contender.
