  1. Wow - that's a great price for an absolutely amazing P bass
  2. I've voted "string break" but I needed 2 responses really. Actually, I had a battery fail on me at a gig - and on that occasion, I hadn't taken a spare bass - luckily, I had a spare PP3 battery. However, that battery change seemingly takes an age when you have onlookers (rummaging around the pockets of the gigbag took long enough).
  3. Hi @ped please be patient with me - as I've not used one of these before Can you plug a mic, plus an instrument into one of these without one cutting the other out? I assume you could take the headphone output into an amp? I ask because I'm trying to extend the number of inputs into a busking amp. Hope you are well good sir?
  4. Nice colour too. What's the weight of this one? I gather they are quite lightweight.
  5. I really must get a copy of John Robb's book on Goth. A mate has just read it and says it's really good. https://booksplea.se/index.php?route=product/product&product_id=4506444&currency=GBP&gclid=CjwKCAjw67ajBhAVEiwA2g_jEIy-lLGRBiiILvxAQjwNF2A4h0h2CISj-01ziizAnMVZz4oCqn1_lRoCHyYQAvD_BwE
  6. Here's a recently released video of one of the bands I'm in. We are called "Tom Crow & The Ghostriders". Please click "like" on YouTube (if you do like it, of course). The video was recorded for us, at Acapela studios, just north of Cardiff. EDIT: Acapela have booked us to support Merry Hell this December
  7. RIP Algy. His bass playing was a huge part of the atmosphere, sound and energy of the Damned's MGE album. As others have said, Andy Rourke, now Algy Ward
  8. Lovely looking bass Are you sure about the weight? 6 pounds is incredibly lightweight. (My ageing back finds such things ever more important).
  9. You've gone and done it again @Hellzero! ha ha
  10. What a nice post. Yes, there have been quite a number times when I've really really enjoyed playing a gig, or even just a rehearsal that went well - a special moment when music lifted my mood, or even helped me feel great. Happily, there are far more of these than the opposite. My only problem, is that I just can't get as much time to play music as I would like to, including some of the other non-bass instruments I own.
  11. Ah, so sorry to hear this @BassInMyFace Best of luck with getting your gear back. As you say, that NS EUB is a very niche instrument - hopefully it will turn up undamaged
  12. Thanks to @Lozz196 - I now have that tune in my head! lol
  13. The most important thing is - concentrate on your recovery, and looking after yourself. Re the rest of the band - explain the situation to them, and that you weren't given much prior warning. I'm sure they'll understand. The next stage will really be whether or not you're feeling up to playing for a while. I know I'd miss my bandmates, and gigging. But of course, you may or may not be well enough to continue in the short term. Perhaps ask your band whether they might consider a short term dep? I'd certainly mention your 80's style keyboard option too - let them know that you'd be willing to do that if you're well enough. That should at least let them know how committed you are. Firstly though - best of luck with your surgery, and hope you have a speedy recovery.... look after yourself.
  14. As others have already said though.... check it at volume, through an amp. I would add that you should maybe try it in a rehearsal studio, firstly on its' own, but then with full band. I'd also say, try recording something with the bass - then see if it still sounds the same in the recording. You never know - you may be partly convincing yourself of something that isn't actually the case. I would add though, I recently tried a couple of necks on my Pbass, and the original neck just sounded that bit better than the other necks. It was a good experiment in Rosewood V Maple board, and chunkier neck V slimmer neck. Took a while, but it was noticeable just how much more sustain and "snappiness" the original neck produced. Perhaps the woods were just matched really well at the factory?
  15. I'd now look at individual strings... particularly a Zyex "E".
  16. Hi @Pirellithecat did you sort the nut out by the way? I only just read your post about the E string not sitting quite right in the slot. As someone also said, a decent quality nut will also help - but make sure the string sits firmly in the slot. This will of course require some careful fettling with a file. But don't file the slot too deep - as that can cause buzzing issues that end of the neck.
  17. That really is a lovely colour! I'd be interested to know the weight too...
  18. Like @GoodOlJohnson, I also have one of these (swapped my Scratchplate for a Tort one, but other wise identical). I absolutely agree 100% that it's probably the best Fender to come out of Mexico - alongside the Roadworn series. The sound is absolutely killer P bass sound, with huge low-end tones, and lovely, good old P bass grunt with classic sounding mids & highs. I've owned several Precisions over the years, and my MIM Classic 50's has been my fave - even above a lovely Oly White US one, my old Roadworn, and more recently my early Squier CV. Plus, the colour on these is my fave Fiesta Red. It's also pretty lightweight, at a shade under 4kg, and the neck feels lovely & smooth. I'm not usually a fan of chunky necks, and this one is wide, but fairly shallow. I did try a couple of other Fender necks on it - just as an experiment in how it feels and sounds. And though the stock neck was a tad wider than the other necks.... it was still the winner for me in terms of just how great the bass sounds. That surprised me, as I was always a bit skeptical about neck dimensions & wood types - but I was won over by the neck on this beastie. Apologies to the seller, for blabbering on about these basses but if you're after a superb, top-notch P bass, and one that rivals more expensive instruments - then give this one a whirl! (I don'r know the seller BTW)
  19. Indeed. LPB is a really nice colour too. But that dark fretboard looks stunning. Surprised this hasn't gone - Fender Japan instruments always seem to be top notch quality IMO
  20. Sometimes @Smanth, that's all that's needed, and it can really add to the overall sound anyway. But perhaps its also something the OP could try - if they find that easier to do?
  21. I sing backing vocals in the bands I'm in. I always found it hard to play bass and sing at the same time. Even now, I find it hard on some songs - there are ones I just can't sing on, no matter how hard I try. As others have said, practice, practice, practice is the only way. But perhaps a good starting point, is to play along to something at home first - make it a song you know really well, with simple, i.e. not too many words. With your band, start doing backing on just one or two songs. It's tricky, and I don't know why. It maybe because guitarists often start learning with those sing-along-while-you-play-chords sort of books?
