1. I dunno how people can do it that way, I can get very little movement with my fingers flat. I have to arch my fingers so they can move at any kind of speed Cheers for ze input though
2. I have one of these, never gigged, been dropped, kicked or bashed, but all of a sudden it won't power on. It's behaving like there's a loose connection or something. If I wiggle the power cord it lights up for a second, pops, and then goes dead again My first port of call is to get a new kettle lead, but does anyone have an idea what this could be? The flippin thing is only three years old and hasn't even been used a hundred times. Grrr.
3. Congratulations! I'm sick with jealousy. That is wooden sex with strings on and I want one. Lovely bass, enjoy it!
4. ...or RH fingering question, if you're a lefty When you play, are the fingers on your fretting hand flat/ parallel to the strings or are they more arched? Trying to troubleshoot problems in my fretting hand, and I see it done both ways but notice a lot of bassists appear to have their fingers somewhat parallel when fretting, whereas mine are definitely arched (I played guitar for a bit before bass). I think it may be causing unnecessary tension in my hand and slowing me down/costing me fluency.
5.
Most Rush songs... Doing a couple in the 'Rush Fans Got Talent' as Rush EU Con in a few weeks time - great idea, fans get to pick a song from a list and their instrument... Chosen A Passage to Bangkok and Animate. Passage is simple enough (must remember not to overplay the verse) and I've got Animate nailed except the intro to the final verse. not the playing but the timing of the first notes. It moves up from the and of the bridge into the verse part played root-and-fifth but I just can't nail the timing... Still, got a few more weeks to get it down. Stupid thing is - it shouldn't be that hard.
Mate, cut yourself some slack! It's not exactly easy - this is Geddy we're talking about!
6. I like the colour too. So you now have two Jazzes and an Aerodyne?
7. Frashy, you know the drill! Get pictures posted! I've got serious P Bass lust at the mo, I kinda want to buy the bitsa Grangur is selling, but I'm doing up my Jim Deacon so I'll put the money into that instead. We want pics and audio!
8. I really like that. Nicely done, sir.
9. Thanks, I'll watch that tonight
10.
And I REALLY don't like the scratchplate shape.
The whole thing just looks like little Timmy designed it on his Etch-A-Sketch. That's why it didn't sell. Tonally speaking, it's a behemoth, but they must surely have known not many people would dig the looks.
11. Hmmm. I don't take statins. My basses don't have neck dive I don't do a muscle warm up, but I'm definitely going to start. Playing for three hours IS a workout of sorts. As for angle.....well, you've probably hit the nail on the head. My posture is shamefully bad in general, and seated practice is no different. I will amend that right away, incorporate a warm-up of sorts, and see if there's any difference. Thanks guys.
12.
Thanks for the comments folks, I use Auto Glym Super Resin polish, works well innit?
Hell yes! Looks shinier than brand new!
13. ChunkyMunky is about 6ft 4, I don't think the neck will be a problem for him! I, however, would struggle big-time!
14. I've been getting occasional pain in my left arm for a few months. Sometimes in my forearm, sometimes in the crook of the arm. It feels like a twinge, isn't agony or crazily intense, but gets painful enough to elicit a bit of a grimace. Typically lasts for about a minute or two, then goes away, and usually comes and goes over about 15-20 minutes. Could this be bass-related? Does it sound familiar to anyone? I've been to the doc because I was initially concerned about my heart with it being in my left arm (there's a degree of sense in my thinking that, honest!) And he took my pulse, blood pressure and even ran blood tests, then declared my heart to be tip-top. So then I got to wondering if it could be some kind of RSI from playing bass...although it almost never hurts WHILE playing bass. Any thoughts?
15. I had a feeling you were the OP of this thread before I even clicked on it! Not a 5er, but looooooook: http://basschat.co.uk/topic/292033-musicman-big-al-candy-red-maple-fretboard/page__pid__3138114#entry3138114
16. Brilliant! Big thanks to Discreet, who's very kindly donating one of his after mine tragically died/was accidentally murdered. Lovely chap
17.
Love. It's the glue that binds us all together...
Dammit dude I can't even be mad at you, because that was funny!
18.
Anyone been paying attention to Rob H's side projects? Interesting....
I haven't, but I saw a video of him jamming with his lad and it was great. Top funk guitarist is Rob. Saw him at the Fender Roadshows last year with Yolanda Charles on bass and Gergo Borlai (sp?) on drums and they were all superb. I really ought to check his stuff out. Did y'all hear Shuffler?
19. Yeah I wondered about glue as well. Any recommendations? Pritt Stick? (Joke) There are so many different glues, Superglue, Uhu, arts and crafts stuff, that it's hard to know which would be the best for the job.
20. Trying to upload to photobucket but I get a message saying "unable to complete previous operation due to low memory". I don't get it. I have 4gb free.
21. Yes, I will. I was just going to attach the tuner with sticky pads, no clip/swivel, but if there's a smarter way to do it that allows me to still swivel it, I'm definitely interested. Bear with me.
22. I turned it to the left!! Gingerly, too, because I had been warned in advance that it were flimsy! Gutted. At least it was only £2. Gonna buy a decent one.
